Geeks who have babies are always looking for ways to pass on their geek ways. Like getting your child interested in Star Warsfrom an early age. One good way to instill a love of Star Wars in your child is to have them sleep every night under an awesome mobile like this one.
Loaded with six spaceships, eight planets, and a moon (that’s no moon!) this entire mobile is hand made by Etsy artist Sheep Creek Needlecraft, who will customize it for every order. If you want one for your child, just be aware that it will take 4-6 weeks to make and it will cost you the hefty sum of $380(USD).
It’s totally worth it though, to see all of those fuzzy ships above your child’s crib indoctrinating him or her into a wonderful world of geekery.
Check out this awesome snowspeeder ring. It was made from a toy and it looks pretty darn good on a finger. Star Wars fanatic Jennifer Landa of Rockets and Rainbows has a nice selection of vintage toys that she’s converted into jewelry. It looks like this snowspeeder is the only ring available right now, but Jennifer has plenty of earrings, necklaces, and other Star Wars jewelry. There’s even a Boushh locket with both Princess Leia and a frozen Han Solo inside.
I also like the Jawa locket with an actual Jawa inside and a Tatooine scene.
These pieces make a great gift for your geek friends and significant others. We all love Star Wars – plus, you can’t beat Micro Machines being turned into jewelry.
Steve Sansweet is a bit of a rebel among hardcore Star Wars collectors. While many afficianados will specialize a single type of memorabilia—Rob Foster’s 2,000-piece set only includes figurines for example—Sansweet will pick up anything from the series for curation in his massive, 300,000-piece museum, Rancho Obi-Wan. Back in 2011, Ryan of Mad Art Lab wrote a post publicly condemning the Slave Leia costume. He had a couple of good reasons, but he realized that he had gone overboard, which is why last week he revised his stance. If some men just want to watch the world burn, some women just want to wear a Slave Leia costume. It’s as simple as that. So he decided to join in on the fun too.

Mad. Swag. Ryan was also partly inspired by a group of girls who wore gender bent versions of Star Wars characters – they had a female Darth Vader, Han Solo and even a female Artoo. He also said that it was a chance for him to step outside of his comfort zone. Finally, Ryan took his concept as an opportunity to challenge himself artistically. He didn’t just buy a Slave Leia costume; he actually spent months making his own costume using cloth, metal and leather, and making adjustments here and there to come up with a male version of the famous outfit.
Ryan says he’ll be rockin’ Slave Leo at this year’s Dragoncon. I hope the convention’s got ample heating. You can check out more pictures of Ryan in his Slave Leo outfit on Mad Art Lab. You know you want to.
The Star Wars vs Star Trek debate continues, and the recent story arc in PvPOnline also showed that off. Well, the Starship Enterprise was recently spotted as part of a Kre-O creation, but I guess Star Wars fan can gloat over Star Trek fans in this round, as LEGO has just released a model of the much loved X-Wing starfighter, which will feature more than 1,500 LEGO pieces to construct. In fact, we are talking about 1,558 LEGO pieces to be exact, and the finished model will measure a whopping 20 inches in length, 10 inches tall when its S-foil is in attack position, the span will end up measuring 18 inches wide.
In fact, there is also enough room for an R2-D2 minifig that is part of the package to help you get out of a particularly tight situation. Don’t you think that R2-D2 has been indispensable in the entire Star Wars saga, often looking as though it is a dumbed down version of Humpty Dumpty, but is actually far more capable of a fight than even some Jedis? Thing is, if you want to pick up this highly desirable LEGO piece, it can be yours later this May for a whopping $199.99.
I’ve been undeniably excited at the thought of new Star Wars films coming to theaters. We already know that J.J. Abrams will be directing Episode VII, which is expected in theaters in the next few years. What remains unclear is exactly what timeframe the new film will cover.
A new rumor has surfaced that points to a timeframe at least 30 years after the events that happened in the original films. The source of this rumor comes from the fact that Harrison Ford is rumored to have signed on for the film. The original report came from Latino Review’s “El Mayimbe” who claims to have triple checked the information before breaking the story.
For what it’s worth, Slate reports that this particular publication has a good track record in breaking rumors such as this one. So far, Disney has offered no confirmation that Harrison Ford will be participating in any upcoming Star Wars film. So far, rumors for the new film indicate that it will focus on the children of Han Solo and Princess Leia, in which case a cameo from Ford would seem appropriate – even though the actor is now over 70 years old.
Get your X-Wing pilot suit on and ready your Astromech droid. LEGO fans who are itching for a new Star Wars set will be happy to learn that a new X-Wing starfighter set will be coming out this May.
The set is 10240 – the Red Five X-Wing Starfighter. It will be available for $200(USD). Sure that’s expensive, but your childhood memories are priceless right? For that price you get 1,558 LEGO pieces, and one R2 unit.
The X-Wing offers tons of detail, including smoothly-moving wings, accurate laser cannons, a see-through cockpit with a hinged canopy, and even a little place for R2-D2 to hang out.
Check out the video below and the Flickr gallery for all of the details if you want to drool, and then start counting your money.
Then go put that money in a safe place and wait and say, “Red Five, Standing by (until May!)”
Darth Vader’s meditation chamber is where the Sith Lord goes to relax and chill for a while. Being a Sith is pretty stressful, you see. Your son didn’t follow in your footsteps and become evil like you, your boss the Emperor is always on your case via hologram, you recently lost the plans for the Death Star. He’s got 99 problems, but Admiral Motti isn’t one. Not anymore.
This conceptual Darth Vader meditation chamber fireplace could be a good way for you to unwind too. It was designed by Dave Delisle and can be opened and closed to adjust the room temperature or kept closed when not in use.
Not only is it geeky, it is actually a really great design. It is the perfect way for Dark Lords to meditate. Just don’t try and sit down inside of this one, Lord Vader. You already got burned once on Mustafar.
It’s time for the mother of all casting calls in the next Star Wars movie: Han Solo – and wouldn’t you know it? It appears that none other than Harrison Ford will be reprising the roll. That is, according to Latino Review – a source that (later in this post) you’ll find has been a surprisingly well-informed source in the past! It’s not every day that we get to report on a new Star Wars movie (even though that may change in a few years time) so it’s all excitement from our end!
The details are not known at the moment on what Harrison Ford will be doing as Han Solo at this point. The amount of movies he will be in is not known. What is known is that Harrison Ford has signed a contract to reprise his role as Han Solo in an upcoming Star Wars film – so says El Mayimbe. This writer has made it clear that he only knows that Ford has signed on to do a film or films in the future, all that’s left is for the studio – Disney or Lucasfilm – to do a formal announcement.
Sound like an awesome deal to you? It’s now possible that they’ll either be doing flash-forwards to when Han Solo was the age Ford is now, or that they’ll have the first (or subsequent) films set in an amount of time relative to our actual timeline. There’s also been rumors of break-away films with character-centric storylines, Han Solo being one of the possibilities too. How about some Tron: Legacy action with The Dude’s face being retro-ized with many virtual markers for a much younger Han?
The possibilities are endless in this extremely advanced virtual effects-driven universe of ours. And we know good and well that the Star Wars franchise is no stranger with the VFX universe – a universe right here and now, up close and personal!
And as far as this leak goes from Latino Review: If you’ll have a look back at the post Marvel Reporting from the writer named Da7e on their website, you’ll see that they’ve literally been contacted by Marvel Comics in an attempt to bribe them out of their inside sources in the film industry. And this isn’t the first time they’ve had a major scoop either. The scoop we’re having a look at here was so important that writer El Mayimbe went to Fox News Latino to let it be known. Have a peek at this video to see him make it public:
