R2-D2 Heels: The Droid Shoes That You’re Looking for

They don’t look stable, but I’m sure some Star Wars fan out there would risk falling over just for the chance to wear these one of a kind pair of shoes made by Mike Warren, a Play Editor  at Instructables. As you can see, not only do they have Artoo’s uh, face, at the toe, they also use R2-D2 toys as their heels.

As you can see in the picture above the shoes each have a blinking LED on the toe area. The heels also retain their toy features, i.e. they can also light up as well as make Artoo sounds.

Iron Bounty Hunter: Is He Tony Fett or Boba Stark?

This Iron Man/Boba Fett sculpture is awesome. Matthew J. Hideousboi painted after seeing a Boba Fett helmet painted as Iron Man for the As You Wish Helmet Project, a charity event that raised funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, by getting artists to make their own custom Boba Fett and Clone Trooper helmets. Personally, I think that Matthew’s version is better.

I would love to see this guy in a movie. Maybe now that Disney owns both Marvel and LucasFilm, we will someday.

[P.S. I had no idea the Stan Winston School of Character Arts even existed. If you dream about doing character design or special effects, you can become part of the whole process by subscribing to the school and getting step-by-step videos. Pretty soon you too will be making badass creatures and aliens for yourself.]

R2-D2 Heels Are The Geek Shoes You’ve Been Looking For

R2 D2 Heels Are The Geek Shoes You’ve Been Looking ForIf you happen to be a lady who absolutely loves your collection of shoes more than the number of handbags at home, and also have a penchant for all things geek, then you would definitely fall head over heels (pardon the pun) with what Mikeasaurus has posted on his Instructables page – a pair of custom-made R2-D2 Mary Jane pumps.

Yes sir, the world’s cutest droid has just gotten cuter, and who knows, he might be short and stout, but he sure as heck has a way with the ladies, starting with Princess Amidala all the way to her daughter, Leia, and beyond. Heck, there is even a blinking red LED thrown into the mix so that everyone would get a better idea on just what this pair of custom-made footwear is all about with but a single glance. I wonder how much would a pair sell if it were to be manufactured on a large scale…

Angry Birds Star Wars adds 20 levels in Escape from Hoth update [hands-on]

Less than a couple days after Rovio teased a new update for Angry Birds Star Wars, the company has released the Escape from Hoth update, which adds 20 new levels to the game, as well as new types of enemies. Plus, there’s new bonus levels that introduce more boss fights. It’s a free update, so if you already have the game, it’s certainly worth checking out.

IMG_1159

Most notably in this update is the infamous asteroid field that was featured in the movie, where the gang had to navigate their way through the whole mess. In the game, you make your way through the asteroid field while trying to take down the enemies as well, which now include the “mynock pigs,” which are essentially pigs with bat wings that can float in mid-air instead of simply sitting atop rocks and other surfaces.

The video doesn’t show us a lot of the new update, so if you really want to find out what you’ll be getting yourself into, we suggest firing up the game and checking out the new levels. However, we ended up checking it out for ourselves and we have to see we really like what we see. The mynock pigs are especially cute, and navigating the asteroid field is definitely a new experience that we find both challenging and exciting.

The update is available for iOS and Android versions as we speak, and it should be hitting Windows Phone and BlackBerry here shortly. The update will also be available for the Kindle Fire version, as well as on OS X and Windows. The game is free on Android devices, while it costs $0.99 on iOS, and $4.99 on the desktop.

Take My Money: Hasbro Star Wars Black Series Action Figures

I love the classic Kenner Star Wars action figures. I still have many of these originals in my toy collection. That said, I haven’t been impressed by many of the Star Wars action figure lines since. Some are too muscular and look silly, others just seem cheap looking to me. But the new Star Wars Black Series looks ridiculously awesome.
Star Wars Black Series
The first wave of this new line of figures will be released in August of 2013 and the image above should be enough to get your attention. Look at the detail on Luke and his X-Wing pilot suit. These figures are 6″ tall and have added articulation, and removable accessories to go with that extra detail.

Star Wars Black Series1
They aren’t priced super high either. We’re talking $19.99(USD) each. The first wave will include Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, Darth Maul, and an Imperial Sandtrooper. I can’t wait to see them come out with Boba Fett in this series. Stay tuned for pre-order details as they emerge.

Rovio teases “Escape from Hoth” update for Angry Birds Star Wars

Rovio’s latest Angry Birds installment, Angry Birds Star Wars, is still in the top 5 in the iTunes App Store after being released a few months ago, and in typical Rovio fashion, it seems the developer will be releasing an update to the game that will include some new features and new levels that players can conquer.

724453521

Rovio teased us about the possible update via Twitter, with a cute little graphic of the Millenium Falcon making its way through a cave. Rovio uses the hashtag #EscapefromHoth, indicating that we’ll see some pretty exciting stuff in the update that will deal with the icy planet and escaping from its tundra-like bitterness.

Other than that, we’re not given any more details, but of course, anyone familiar with The Empire Strikes Back will know that the cave is the one that Star Wars gang hide in while trying to escape from the Imperial Fleet. We’re not sure how this will tie in with Angry Birds, but we’re excited nonetheless.

Whether we might see new birds, new powers, or more features coming to the game, it’s almost guaranteed that we’ll be seeing some new levels, but either way, we’re interested in seeing what we’ll be getting ourselves into. If you still haven’t checked out the game, it’s available for the iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.

Star Wars Engagement Rings: May the Force be with Your Marriage

This isn’t the first time we’ve see geek-themed engagement rings, and I’m fairly certain this won’t be the last either.

You might have heard all about Star Wars creator George Lucas’ engagement with his longtime girlfriend earlier this month. If you’ve been mulling about popping the big question yourself, then here’s one fun engagement ring option you can look into: this his and hers Star Wars ring set.

Star Wars EngagementThe rings are made and designed by Chelsea Swank. Aside from sterling silver, you can have the rings made from gold, platinum, and white gold, like the Death Star rings we showed you last week. You can also choose to have the rings adorned with a stone, like the ones you see above, or forego it if you prefer a simpler look.

Even if you’re not planning on getting married anytime soon, then you can use these as promise rings or as boyfriend-and-girlfriend rings even. Because yes, they’re too awesome to miss out, and they might no longer be in stock by the time you actually want to get hitched.

Star Wars Ring

The following symbols are currently available for use on rings: the Jedi Symbol, Death Star, Rebel Alliance, Imperial Cog, and the Boba Fett Chest Symbol. If you have one in mind that’s not on the list, then you can hit Chelsea up with a message and who knows? She might just design your preferred symbol into a ring. Aside from that, you can also make a request to have the rings engraved with a special message.

The Star Wars rings in sterling silver go for $325(USD), the gold ones are priced at $1,050, the white gold ones retail for $1,250, and the platinum rings cost $3,000. Gemstones will set you back another $75 each – a bargain compared to building an actual Death Star.

If Google Translate Could Translate Star Wars to English

One of the wonderful things about Star Wars was that even though you couldn’t understand some characters, you still understood them. But what if you could plug in Chewbacca’s growls and R2D2’s beepity boops into Google Translate to find out what they’re saying? Nate Smith of Awkward Elevator did just that and it’s exactly what you expected. More »

Lucasfilm pushes Episodes II and III 3D aside, focuses its efforts on Episode VII

Lucasfilm has announced that for the time being, its plans to release Star Wars Episodes II and III in 3D have been shelved. In their place will be increased focus on the new Episode VII, which will be directed by J.J. Abrams, whose credits include the latest Star Trek series. The movie is set to hit theaters in 2015.

star-wars-blu-ray11-580x435

While fans are sure to be a tad disappointed at the news that we won’t get to see episodes II and III in 3D for an indefinite period of time, there is a ray of light – this move allows Lucasfilm to focus 100-percent of its attention on the new movie, something that will (hopefully) be more satisfying in the long run. The company will announce when it has an update on its plans to release 3D versions of the two movies.

Last week, we reported that Abrams’ role as director had been confirmed on the official Star Wars website, with him being referred to as the perfect director for the job. No one knows if he’ll direct Star Wars movies after Episode VII, but it seems like a strong possibility, with George Lucas and others heaping praise on his past work and expressing enthusiasm about his involvement with the series.

Back on November 16, we reported that Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy has announced plans for 2-3 Star Wars movie releases per year following Episode VII. This followed Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm for over $4 billion. Disney has stated that it will be focusing on social and mobile Star Wars titles, more so than on console games.

Here’s What It’d Look Like if JJ Abrams Directed the Original Star Wars

So JJ Abrams is directing Star Wars Episode VII, and everyone is quite certain that it will be very great or very bad or very dumb. But before we see a single frame of lens flared footage, this shot-for-shot recreation of the Star Trek Into Darkness trailer using original trilogy clips is a taste of what an Abrams Star Wars might look like. And it’s totally, absolutely wonderful. More »
