Darth Vader Force Gloves: Behold the Power of the Dark Side (of Magnets)

If only telekinesis were a real thing, we wouldn’t need to resort to such cheap parlor tricks as sticking magnets inside our gloves, but unfortunately we live in the real world, and as far as I know, The Force doesn’t actually exist in our universe. But if you’ve been thinking about dressing up as Darth Vader this Halloween, and are looking for that finishing touch, then you might want to grab one of these.

This is the Darth Vader Force Glove – which is basically just a glove with couple of big-ass magnets in it. The glove comes with a couple of small magnetic  toys that you can practice your Force Push and Force Pull with. There’s a small cutout of some droids that you can push along your tabletop, as well as a tiny lightsaber you can pull towards your glove. It’s too bad it’s not strong enough to pull a can of beer out of the fridge and fling it across the room, though.

In addition to manipulating these little playthings, you could always use the glove for truly Dark-Sided tricks, like erasing your buddy’s ATM card, or wiping out the hard drive in their MacBook. Probably not a good idea to do either of those things if you don’t want them to chop off your hand with a lightsaber, though.

You can grab the Darth Vader Force Glove over at ThinkGeek for $19.99(USD).

Star Wars Darth Vader Lunch Bag with Sound

Have you ever wondered just how Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith eats with that mask on most of the time? I guess only in his meditation chamber when his mask is removed, will he be able to dig into the latest that the galaxy has to offer on the gastronomic front. Of course, little Siths running around who are packed for Sith School will want to make sure that they do not leave home without the $14.99 Star Wars Darth Vader Lunch Bag with Sound.

The name of the Star Wars Darth Vader Lunch Bag with Sound says it all – a simple push button has been incorporated into the bag itself, where pressing it will result in a Darth Vader sound effect. It is 100% PVC-free with PEVA linings for that added peace of mind, is durable, insulated, and easy to clean – after all, you know just how messy kids can be. Just make sure that there are adequate batteries to keep the Star Wars Darth Vader Lunch Bag with Sound going in the long run, using the Force alone is not going to be enough.

What If Dr. Seuss Wrote Star Wars?

I grew up reading a whole lot of Dr. Seuss. I also happen to be a huge Star Wars fan. So you can understand my excitement when I saw three limited-edition prints by former Disney animator and character artist Jason Peltz that combined these two together in the most seamless way possible.

The cover above is a play on one of Dr. Seuss’s most-beloved titles, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. Only instead of fish, we’ve got droids instead.

seuss wars 1

This one right here takes on one of Dr. Seuss’s most famous books featuring his very famous cat. But instead of The Cat in the Hat, we’ve got Yoda with his signature can instead.

Finally, we’ve got a Wookiee taking on the cover for the book entitled There’s a Wocket in My Pocket. See what they did there?

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: October 8, 2012

Welcome to Monday evening everyone. Today featured a couple of a big stories, including the House Intelligence Committee warning of Huawei and ZTE potentially allowing the Chinese government to spy on the US. Huawei was quick to release a statement giving us its own side of the story and defending its business, and those US lawmakers also delivered a list of five things the government must do to prevent Huawei and ZTE from helping China with espionage.

We also had plenty of news about SpaceX’s Dragon capsule, which launched for the ISS yesterday. The launch went well despite a rocket blowout, and we learned that the capsule is carrying – among other things – ice cream and silly putty to the space station. Later on in the day, SpaceX released a statement about the minor problems on the launch pad, telling us that the mission should still go as planned. We heard that 10 million iPad Minis are on order, despite the fact that we don’t know for sure that it exists yet, and today Google started calling for more tablet-friendly apps.

The Samsung Galaxy S III was named T-Mobile’s best-selling device of all time today, and speaking of T-Mobile, the carrier received the LG Optimus L9 today as well. A 32GB Nexus 7 model was accidentally shipped to one lucky Japanese customer, and Microsoft has launched free Wi-Fi in both New York City and San Francisco. Windows 8 PCs started showing up early on HSN’s website today, and Microsoft released a Kinect SDK for Windows 8 too. Microsoft has apparently dropped its “Live” branding from its Windows 8 launch, and T-Mobile looks primed to receive iPhone 5 owners with a new NanoSIM delivery.

After being teased last week, Rovio revealed Angry Birds Star Wars today, an announcement that was quickly followed by additional details. XCOM: Enemy Unknown is available for pre-order on Steam today, while Blizzard told us that a World of Warcraft hack that allowed one player to murder others one city at a time has been patched. Pokemon Black and White 2 launched yesterday, and PETA has something to say about it, while Nokia announced that its new Lumia 810 will be bringing the Windows Phone 8 touch to T-Mobile.

That about does it for tonight’s Evening Wrap-Up, but before we part ways, we have one original story to cover: Chris Burns tells us why Nokia will need to push its graphic design abilities when it comes to making Windows Phone 8 a success. Enjoy the rest your night folks!

Angry Birds Star Wars details continue to spill

Those of you waiting for the release of Rovio’s Angry Birds Star Wars game release will have to wait until November 8th, but for now, you’ve got details upon details spilling in all directions. What we know thus far is that you’ll be working with Angry Birds that are specific to their character – Luke Skywalker, Rebel Pilot will be one without a doubt. What we’ve also learned since this morning’s big re-announcement is that Angry Luke will be carrying a lightsaber – and that Han, Chewie, Leia, and the rest will be bringing their own heat as well.

This game will be a giant release for Rovio as it continue to bash its way into the pop universe one movie at a time. Angry Birds Rio was their first big film adventure – after that they went straight to Space with NASA! Now they’re going beyond this galaxy with Star Wars in a cross-branding project the likes of which will surely set your socks on fire. Along with a whole new game will come merchandise – the mainstay of the Star Wars universe.

The trailer doesn’t tell you… basically anything. It looks like the lightsaber has turned into a slingshot but taking the already utterly flimsy physics of that device and flat out slapping you in the face by turning it into something that can propel birds through space – that’s just silly. What we’ve been able to find besides these Rovio-pushed items is a set of action figures and playsets that make it clear that we’ll be knocking down AT-ATs and a Piggy Death Star.

So here’s what we can take away from this exploration – we’ll be flinging birds like we have been for several games now in the Angry franchise, only this time it’ll be at Star Wars vehicles from the Empire. We’ll be using a variety of alternate-universe Star Wars characters – complete with weapons – to knock the Empire of Piggies to the pop zone. What’s not known is if this game will be its own entity or if it’ll take part in Angry Birds: Space – which would make a lot of sense.

Yoda Bust with Human Complexion: Judge Me by My Color, Do You?

The species of legendary Jedi master Yoda is one of the mysteries of Star Wars. Whatever he is, all we know is that he’s small and green. If you ever wondered what he’d look like if he had more or less the same skin as humans, sculptor Andrea Eusebi has a possible answer. Also, you wonder about strange things.

Like child of elf and hobbit, Yoda bust looks. Hmmmm.

Angry Birds Star Wars coming November 8

Rovio has kept up on its word about giving us some more details on the Stars Wars-themed Angry Birds sequel that was teased on Friday. Rovio has officially announced Angry Birds Star Wars, and it’ll be available for download on iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac on November 8 — exactly one month from now.

Rovio included a short teaser trailer with the announcement this morning that extends on the animated GIF we were teased with on Friday that had a darkened figure with a robe on holding a light saber. Obviously, we knew what it was about right away, but the trailer still doesn’t give us a lot of details other than the fact that the game is launching on November 8.

However, the trailer does show off the fact that the light saber is what looks to be a slingshot. We’re not really sure how a light saber slingshot will play into this new installment, or what special powers a light saber slingshot will provide, but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t excited to find out.

In the description of the YouTube trailer, Rovio also announced that they’ll “have a whole host of toys, animations and other Angry Birds Star Wars goodness to enjoy”. They also mention to follow their Tumblr blog and to check back “every day” because it’s “just the beginning.” May the birds be with you!

Feel the Force: Angry Birds Star Wars coming November 8th to iOS, Android, WP, Kindle Fire and computers

Feel the Force: Angry Birds Star Wars coming November 8th to iOS, Android, WP, Kindle Fire and computers

Rovio teased a certain film-inspired Angry Birds picture a long, long last week, and as expected, it’s another new game — Angry Birds Star Wars. Our furious feathered friends are assuming the likenesses of characters from the epic saga, with the trusty Red Bird taking on Luke Skywalker’s role. It wouldn’t be the Rebel Alliance without a dark side to fight, which is where the Pigs fit into the storyline; even the music and levels for gravity-based play will hark back to the film franchise. In addition to the software, details of related merchandise have also been uncovered, including table games, toys and costumes. The game is out on November 8th for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Kindle Fire and computers, and if it follows the original storyline, we wonder how Red Bird’s going to feel about his porcine family history.
