Custom Star Wars LEGO Hoth Chess Set: Rogue Leader, Check!

The battle for Hoth just got all brainy and strategic. This large scale (18″ x 18″) custom chess set by Brickplace puts the Empire against the Rebel Alliance in an all new way.

The detail is amazing. You have the Rebel troops in Hoth gear, the Snowtroopers, some AT-ATs, an Imperial Probe droid and of course the Wampa monster and more! All lovingly made out of LEGO. This isn’t some overpriced Franklin Mint set that just looks gaudy. This is pure geek joy.

It even has Luke in his watery Bacta tank and Han riding a Tauntaun. Man, I wish I owned this awesome chess set. I would play chess all day just to play with the figures. Check out more amazing pics on Flickr.

A Star Wars watch that you’ll actually want to wear

Venerable Japanese watchmaker Seiko has released a limited-edition series of Star Wars watches. Out on October 12, six characters from the films get their own model, each based on a different Seiko model. Among the characters included are some usual suspects: the Yoda watch has a subtle green face, and the murdered out black Darth Vader model is extremely cool. There are also some more questionable choices: who wants a Darth Maul watch? Since they’re Seiko, some of the watches will have mechanical movements, which is very cool for movie tie-ins; these aren’t the Star Wars watches that come at the bottom of a cereal box. The list price is around $1750, but Amazon Japan’s got them for about $1000. No word on whether these are ever coming to the United States, so hop on over to Japan if you’ve got to have one.

Check out the whole line of watches here.

Epic Star Wars Cake is Epic

Sometimes you can’t just pick one favorite character from the Star Wars movies. Who says you have to? At least that’s the idea that one baker had when creating what could be the most awesome Star Wars cake ever. Ok, it’s not as incredibly crafted as the full-size Stormtrooper and Darth Vader cakes, but it’s still pretty great.

This single cake combines Darth Vader, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and Yoda into a single, epic cake masterpiece. Nobody seems to know who made this amazing cake, but whoever you are, I bend the knee to you. The only thing missing are Boba Fett and Stormtrooper layers but I suppose you could always pick those up here.

Limited Edition Star Wars watches from Seiko Japan

When it comes to a franchise like Star Wars, you know for sure that this is one cash cow which is more than able to feed George Lucas’ descendants all the way down to a few generations after he has become one with the other Jedi Masters in the Force. Well, in order to make sure that his descendants live a comfortable lifestyle through royalty payments alone, you can always check your bank account to see whether there is enough balance inside to pick up the Limited Edition Star Wars watches from Seiko Japan.

What you see above is the Seiko Brightz R2-D2, where it boasts of a 300dpi display which is capable of showing off scenes from the movies, while other watches are not that high tech, preferring instead to take the more traditional looking route, where you can choose from Darth Maul, Darth Vader and Stormtrooper designs. The quantity of each model varies, ranging 500 and 1,500 of each, and prices start from approximately $1,800 thereabouts.

Amigurumi TIE Fighter and AT-AT Crush the Rebel Alliance with Cuteness

It’s my theory that part of the reason the Empire had so much trouble taking down the Rebel Alliance and Jedi was that they just weren’t nice enough. You know what they say “kill ‘em with kindness” and all. Well if I were flying along in an X-Wing or a Snowspeeder, I’d be much more likely to be pulled in close to have a look at them if they looked as cute and cuddly as these.

These amigurumi crocheted TIE fighter and AT-AT are about as darling as Star Wars stuff can get, and sure to charm the pants off of Rogue Leader and Red Five all at once. And yes, I know they’re the same person, but that just sounded good.

These designs were created by Etsy artist Ana of MysteriousCats, who offers them up as patterns for you to crochet yourself, or if you’re lucky, you might find an already assembled one in her shop. The patterns will run you about $8 (USD), while a complete AT-AT sells for about $33. Ana’s also got designs in her shop for an X-Wing fighter, the Millenium Falcon, if you’re more into the Light Side, and a Naboo Starfighter if you can’t make up your mind which side you’re on. She’s also got one of these…

Miniature Star Wars Terrariums Land You on Tatooine, Endor, Dagobah, Where’s My Hoth Snowglobe?

Star Wars fans, here’s a fun accessory to place on your desktop or bookshelf. It’s a series of handmade terrariums, each depicting a scenic location from one of the Star Wars films.

star wars terrarium dagobah

They’re made by Tony Larson (aka ‘Megatone230′) of The Wonder Room, and you can choose from a scene with Yoda chilling out in a Dagobah moss garden, R2-D2 (or mini R2-D2) searching for Obi-Wan on Tatooine, or a cuddly Ewok getting ready to take down some speeder bikes on the forest planet of Endor.

I just want him to make me a tiny snowglobe with a scene of snowspeeder taking down an AT-AT.

Each one is lovingly handmade to order, and prices range from $95 to $105(USD) for the little dioramas. Be sure to check out the other scenes over on The Wonder Room’s Etsy shop too. The Ancient Goddess Ruins ($200) is pretty epic, and reminds me of God of War for some reason. I wonder why…

Seiko Star Wars Watches: Force Time!

Seiko Japan recently took wraps off a whole series of new watches based on the Star Wars saga, and there are some really awesome timepieces in the collection. While most of the series has traditional analog movements, the R2-D2 watch is all digital, and features a very cool hi-res display.

seiko r2 d2 watch

The limited-edition Seiko Brightz R2-D2 watch is the geekiest of the collection, featuring a 300dpi black and white screen which can display scenes from the Star Wars films. But if you’re in the market for a more timeless design, you might want to check out one of the other watch designs, which include Darth Vader, Darth Maul and Stormtrooper models with a dramatic black band, as well as a gold-accented C-3PO and green-tinged Yoda watch. The Vader model is even embellished with tiny diamonds.

seiko yoda watch 150x150

All of these beautiful watches are limited-editions ranging from 500 to 1500 pieces, and are not for those with limited budgets. Prices for the series range from 136,500 to 141,750 (~$1739 to $1805 USD), though you can find them for a little less over on Amazon Japan(JP). I found one of the R2-D2 watches going for $1450 over on eBay too.

LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Head Lamp

Don’t you think that it is rather ironic that the Dark Side of the Force still needs some light? I am referring to the $18.99 LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Head Lamp here, where you are able to get light from the Dark Side as this clip-on Vader around your head will make sure that you will no longer stumble through the night, nor will your toe experience any more stubs against the corner of the table.

This must be the first time that Darth Vader brings forth light to those around him, never mind the fact that he is unable to project Force Lightning. The LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Head Lamp is capable of being clipped to different places such as your belt, backpack, or even your pocket protector. As its name suggests, you can also use the Dark Lord of the Sith as an actual head lamp for late night readings of Star Wars novels.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Drawn as Jedi Knights: Magical Mashup Fun

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are pretty fearsome, even if they are pizza-eating slobs who live in the sewers.  (Read: unwanted outcasts of society.)  Combine this level of fierce physical ability with the disciplined battle techniques of Jedi Knights, and what do you get?  Nothing, since you lack artistic skill and can’t pick up a pencil because of those acrylic nails.  If you happen to be as talented as Q-Dog2099, you get these awesome Teenage Mutant Jedi Turtles!

raphael tmnt jedi

Raphael’s my favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Jedi mashup, probably because of the dual-wielding aspect that transferred over.  Step aside, Darth Maul – two blades with two hilts are always better than one hilt with two really long blades.  Both of which should always be worse than a rocket launcher, but apparently that’s not the case.  Battlefronts one and two?  Most assuredly not the case.

leonardo tmnt jedi

The blue glow that’s been applied to Leonardo is one of my favorite colors of blue, in case you weren’t wondering.  I love imposing my unwanted opinions upon others.  Did you know that maltese-poodle dogs are the best kind?  Well now you do.

donatello tmnt jedi

I always identified with Donatello, since we’re pretty similar, me and him.  Both of us are of above average intelligence, endowed with good looks, and glowing in a purple aura.  The last one may or may not be because I fell into a pool of radioactive material last week when I was fishing at the local pond.  My quest: to pull out the four-armed fish of legend.  “Wouldn’t it be just as impressive to find a fish with one arm?”   Beggars can’t be choosers.

michaelangelo tmnt jedi

I hope you agree with me when I say that this really is an awesome collection of Star Wars/TMNT mashups.  Now… I know what you’re all thinking.  ”Why am I reading this instead of that post about the D-Cup TMNT Bra?”  The answer?  I have no idea.  If you’re not as risqué as I had taken you to be at a prior time, then you’ll want to check out the more moderate Arcade Mashup Prints, which are pretty cool too, but less sexy.

This super awesome post was written by Jack, lead blogger at Cool Gizmo Toys.  Jack puts together lists to help geeks quickly find the stuff that they love, and probably has several endangered species of lemur living illegally in his war shelter, but that’s irrelevant.

R2-D2 luggage by Salvador Bachiller

This might not be the droid that you are looking for, but it definitely is the luggage that you have been waiting all your life – ever since R2-D2 made its appearance back in the 1970s with the debut of Star Wars, enthralling the imagination of geeks and non-geeks worldwide in a grand space opera conjured by a very young George Lucas back then. Since then, we have seen our fair share of R2-D2 incarnations which appeal to the geek demographic, but Salvador Bachiller might be on to a winner here with his €95 R2-D2 luggage that has rollers at the bottom so that you can drag it along the next time you step into your Imperial Shuttle, er, Airbus A380.

Of course, it would be cooler if the relevant electronics that are smart enough could be incorporated into the R2-D2 luggage here, allowing it to follow you around like the tootin’ astromech droid that it was in the movies. Still, I am quite sure that hard core Star Wars fans would find this particular R2-D2 luggage a must buy, never mind what the missus has to say about it.
