Toys Playing with Toy-Size Apple Gadgets Will Make You Either Sneer or Coo [Apple]

Toys playing with their own overly-engineered, brand-name, Apple gadgets is what could probably be called—quite accurately—the pinnacle of pretension. Still, anything made miniature is automatically cool. And these tiny iPods, iPads, iPhones, and MacBooks are no exception. Not even when Woody from Toy Story is posed with a doll-size iPhone to look like he’s Instagramming his sushi dinner.

Star Wars Nerds Restore Luke Skywalker’s Home IRL [Architecture]

Star Wars junkie Mark Dermul has a pretty sweet job: He leads tours in North Africa of different locations featured in the films. On a 2010 trip to Tunisia—er, Tatooine—he and his cohort realized that Luke Skywalker’s boyhood home—the Lars Homestead—was in serious disrepair. NPR reports how they brought it back to life. More »

Death Star ping-pong ball isn’t a moon

I can’t say that I’ve ever seen a ping-pong ball that I would look at and think, “that’s pretty cool.” However, a Japanese artist has created what is undeniably the coolest ping-pong ball in the history of ping-pong balls. This thing started as your typical orange table tennis ball before he worked his geek magic and turned it into an incredibly detailed replica of the Death Star from Star Wars.

I can only imagine how difficult this would be or how exactly the artist car all these jagged edges out of the thin ping-pong ball. I can only assume it took hours with a really sharp X-Acto knife. The internal structure of the ping-pong ball was created with some sort of plastic board.

The internal structure was built and the ping-pong ball was cut to its Death Star shape as separate pieces. I want to know how the internal structure was placed inside the ping-pong ball. I would assume the finished outer ping-pong ball shell was cut in half and placed over the top of the internal structure.

Clone Troopers Recreate Famous Scenes

If you’re a disgruntled clone trooper and you’re just sick of fighting other people’s battles for The Empire, why not quit and get a new job as a photography model. Actually, these photos were created by a Canadian art teacher using Star Wars figurines (and he didn’t use Photoshop!)

These images are part of David Eger’s 365 Days of Clones. He started this project as part of a New Year’s resolution, and I have to say that it’s pretty cool. I’ve never seen clones do so many interesting things before. Usually, they’re just slumming it for The Empire. Each photograph was taken on the anniversary of the original work. He even recreated paintings, like Pablo Picasso’s Guernica and Leonardo Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man.

You can check out all of his photographs on his dedicated site, 365 Days of Clones.

And here’s a bonus image that has nothing to do with clone troopers, but it’s awesome anyhow.

Star Wars Remote Control R2-D2 Whizz Watch

We all know that everyone’ favorite astromech, R2-D2, has come in all sorts of shapes and sizes to date in terms of Star Wars merchandise, lining up George Lucas’ pockets with more than enough dough to last him several generations down the line. Well, the latest iteration of R2-D2 comes in a pocket-sized form factor, that is, the $42 Star Wars Remote Control R2-D2 Whizz Watch.

It is time for some R2-D2 o’clock goodness, where the blue and white digital watch will be able to tell you the current time, but it also secretly doubles up as a remote control. Each watch will feature its very own R2-D2 unit that can be detached, allowing you to use the watch to control him around. R2-D2 will whizz with gusto forwards and backwards, although he does seem to lack a pair of boosters here, so forget about letting him cross chasms from one desk to another via a short flight. Good thing it comes with batteries right out of the box to get you started immediately.

Stormtrooper Adirondack Chair Perfect for Lounging on the Death Star’s Back Porch

This could be the greatest outdoor chair of all time. I want a set of four for my deck RIGHT NOW. I have my credit card in hand, and will pay top dollar for a set. If needed, I will borrow money from Jabba the Hutt to cover the cost.

This Stormtrooper helmet chair was created by Gotwood Workshops, and it is completely awesome. Not only is the helmet back perfect, but it’s even got the Empire logo carved into the arms of the chair too.

Unfortunately, the GotWood guys don’t plan on selling these because of copyright concerns, but you might want to swing by Gotwood’s Facebook page to compliment them on the design anyhow. And while you’re over there, you’ll find out that they appear to be working on a matching Darth Vader chair too.

Millenium Falcon Cake: She May Not Look Like Much but She Has Frosting Where It Counts

This Millenium Falcon wedding cake looks delicious, although you have to really feel for our buddy Han. He looks really scared there with his eyes popping out of his fondant head.
millenium Falcon cake
I’m not sure of all the construction details, but they did an amazing job. The detail is super nice, right down to the guns and radar dish. I’m not sure why Leia is blonde though. Probably because the bride is a blonde. And the heads of Boba Fett and some stormtroopers are a nice touch. And not a spot on it suggesting that a finger had poked at it to get a taste.

Well, I hope that this couple shares a happy life full of geek treats like this cake. Well, not so much that they end up looking like Jabba though. Great cake!

Death Star Carved out of a Ping Pong Ball

This miniature Death Star is the ultimate power of the table tennis universe. That’s right, this Death Star was actually created by carving a ping pong ball.
death star ball
It was created by a forum user named tatumaru5963. I’m not sure what went into to making it since Google Translate kinda sucks, but it does look pretty amazing. There are some images that show a few of the steps necessary to create this thing though and judging by those images, this must have taken quite a while.

This space station is about half the size of a pack of cigarettes. All I can say is that this guy has some serious knife skills to build this thing with such precision. It’s amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it.
