At the annual BlizzCon convention, gamers from World of Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo all get together to witness the next big thing Blizzard has to offer. At BlizzCon 2013, players will be able to get a hands-on demonstration of the latest Blizzard games, become an audience to a discussion panel with Blizzard’s game developers and artists, have competitive, yet casual tournaments with other fellow gamers, compete in contests, purchase Blizzard’s gaming merchandice, and more. Blizzard wasn’t able to hold its annual BlizzCon event in 2012 because of the company’s jam-packed schedule. It was also in the process of developing its StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm expansion.

BlizzCon 2011 was a major success, and tickets sold out within seconds, so there’s no time to think once the tickets for BlizzCon 2013 goes on sale. Starcraft Brood Wars Running On Android Thanks To Winulator App

While it might not have been imaginable many years ago that our phones would be able to run/emulate PC games, given the power that our smartphones wield, it is slowly becoming a reality. Thanks to an app called the Winulator, it seems that sometime in the near future, Android users will be able to run Starcraft’s Brood Wars on their phones. This isn’t the first time that Starcraft has been ported onto Android devices, although the previous method involved an N64 emulator which was reportedly both laggy and a messy process which we can only imagine would ruin the experience.

Winulator on the other hand is not really an emulator, but an app that allows the running of Windows API alongside ARM friendly code thanks to a tool that converts EXE and DLL files into ARM readable code. At the moment the support for Starcraft with Winulator is still being worked on, but you can check out the video above which gives you a demonstration of the game running at full speed. In the meantime its developer stated that you can run Caesar III on Winulator if you want to see what the experience might be like.

I guess you can more or less align this with the Platoon feature that is found in Battlefield 3, assuming you have played that game in the past. Blizzard Black Friday Lets You Save $20 On Hit Titles

Blizzard knows that times are hard these days, and there will always be a market of price sensitive gamers who do not want to pick up a game when it is first released simply because they know that the games will go on sale months down the road. If you happen to fall under that category, then you might be interested to find out that Blizzard is also joining in on the Black Friday sale, letting you save $20 on Diablo III and StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty.

In fact, Blizzard claims that these savings are “too epic to be contained within a single day”, which is why the Blizzard Black Friday discounts are already set in motion. For this week only, you will be able to save $20 each on Diablo III and StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty in the Blizzard Store, making us wonder what are you going to do with the $40 that you save assuming you picked up both titles? Perhaps that extra money could be used to pick up other Black Friday deals on World of Warcraft and its expansions, but this is only available at select retail locations. The Blizzard Black Friday deals will end next Monday.

StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm ready for play on March 12, 2013

If you are looking forward to StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, then here is a wee bit of good news for you – Blizzard has announced it to be ready for play when March 12, 2013 rolls around. This game has been talked about for quite some time already, and it seems that the beta has started just a couple of months ago, and it is nice to see the good folks over at Blizzard finally come to a consensus, knowing just when they are going to release the game for the masses. The European Blizzard store has listed the game as “available for play” starting from March 12, 2013 onwards, and this particular expansion to StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will arrive in a couple of flavors – standard and digital deluxe, burning the price of a full retail game in your respective pockets or digital bank accounts.

Needless to say, if you are just there for the pure gaming experience, the standard edition of Heart of the Swarm will arrive sans any extra goodies, but the Digital Deluxe version ought to keep collectors and hardcore fans of the game happy, sporting a StarCraft II Torrasque Ultralisk and three swarm-infested portraits, an exclusive Zerg baneling pet for World of Warcraft, a Diablo III Queen of Blades hero wings and Zerg banner sigils. Are you drooling already, or have you started to plan your resources around the StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm ‘s release (both financially and in time terms)?

Vigilus Weapons System Concept Uses Airships to Deploy UAVs: The Carrier Will Arrive

Yesterday we looked at a drone that’s meant to be used for peaceful purposes. We are now back to our scheduled programming. MBDA Missile Systems recently unveiled the CVS301 Vigilus system, a “suite of future strike weapons” composed of small UAVs that are deployed via a launch aircraft. Oblivion descends.

As shown in a demo video, the Vigilus system will be capable of deploying (at least) two types of UAVs from Armatus, a mothership that looks like two blimps fused together. The first UAV is Caelus, a “scout missile” meant to be used for recon and to paint a target for its big brother, the other UAV, which is called Gladius. Both have 1kg warheads, but the Gladius has enough fuel to fly for 2 hours, while the Caelus has a smaller range. The Vigilus system can be controlled either by soldiers in the battlefield or by an operator in a remote station. We’re screwedius.

SRK contest produces a 26-button Starcraft II arcade controller, probably won’t stop Zerg rushes (video)

SRK contest produces a 26button Starcraft II arcade controller, probably won't stop Zerg rushes video

Almost as a dare, Shoryuken (SRK) challenged its fans to produce a fighting game-style controller for Starcraft II. Mauricio Romano took them up on that contest and won with a surprisingly polished arcade stick of his own. Its cornerstone is a heavily modified Ultrastik joystick that’s turned into an on-controller, two-button mouse. You didn’t think a PC gamer would cling to a plain joystick, did you? In the process, the usual 101 keys of a typical keyboard have been pared down to a set of 26 buttons most relevant for Blizzard’s real-time strategy epic. Packaged up in a single, polished USB peripheral, the one-off prototype’s design is good enough to imagine a Major League Gaming pro taking it out on the road. We’d put that idea on ice for now, though: as Mauricio shows in the video below, the learning curve is steep enough that most players won’t be fending off diamond-league marine and zergling blitzes anytime soon.

Modder Builds the Ultimate Arcade Joystick for… Starcraft II?!

That’s right folks, this is an arcade style controller for a real time strategy game. Now you can pull off that 54-hit Zergling combo and trace a HCF route for your Marines. My ignorance in StarCraft II aside, control your fanboy rage and approach this mod as curio, not as an attack to your way of life pastime.

The controller was made by Mauricio Romano, a Master League StarCraft II player. It’s the winning entry in a contest held by fighting game website Shoryuken. So hate the contest organizer, not the contestant. Because it’s impossible to control SC II with just 6 buttons, Romano opted to go with 29 buttons, including two control buttons – one on either side – plus a space and a shift button. The hemisphere on the left looks like a trackball mouse, but it’s actually a joystick with a really large cap. The arcade influence also shows in the decal, which features Kerrigan, Raynor and a couple of Marines. There’s also a string of LEDs along the fringes of the case. The controller is recognized by a PC as a USB keyboard, so there’s no need to map keys or configure anything.
