Destroy King Joffrey!: #bringdowntheking

Now that I have your attention… Sure, we would all like to kill King Joffrey, but there is only one of him and so many of us. SKY TV in New Zealand has the solution. They have erected a statue of the despicable little brat in a square in Auckland and they’re giving you the chance to help destroy it.

Obviously this is all part of a promotion for Game of Thrones season four. All you have to do is send a tweet with the hashtag #bringdowntheking. As the statue gains attention in real life and online, a medieval winch will be attached to the statue, with a rope around Joffrey’s neck. With each use of the tag #bringdowntheking, the rope will pull tighter around Joffrey’s neck, eventually pulling him to the ground.

If you are interested in bringing this bratty tyrant down and like the idea of a public lynching, head to www.bringdowntheking.com to see live webcams of the action.

SoulCalibur Nightmare Statuette: Throne of Souls

Professional sculptor Hector A. Arce mashed up Game of Thrones with SoulCalibur in this grisly stattuete. He calls it Throne of Souls, and it shows the fighting game villain sitting on a throne that’s “made up of the souls and swords of his fallen enemies.” Take that Aegon.

I was going to post about this Mario Bros. sculpture but when I got to Minty Fresh I got sidetracked by the other items for sale. Steve Minty is the Fangamer of geeky visual art. Or maybe Fangamer is the Minty Fresh of geeky apparel. I could have picked an item from Minty Fresh’s virtual shelves at random and it would have been worth sharing.  For now though I just had to highlight Hector’s masterpiece. The statuette is 12″ high and 10″ wide and is made of ceramic clay.

Wield your browser and head to Minty Fresh, where you can buy the statuette for $450 (USD). Hector priced it at $300 on his shop, but it’s not yet available there.

Life-sized Titanfall Mech Surfaces in Germany

If you find yourself near the Berlin Central Station today, you may have noticed a gigantic robot there before you decided to run for your life and hide in some corner. Nothing to fear. It’s just Betty the Titan, and this is just one stop on a four stop tour around Germany to promote Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall in a big way.

Believe it or not Respawn and EA have been moving this and one other Titanfall prop all around the world. So far Betty has made appearances at Gamescom, GDC, E3, and a couple of other venues. Both Titans were created to represent the true scale of the mech compared to puny humans and they do that well. They would be amazing to see in person.

The Titans were created by Daniel’s Wood Land, based out of Paso Robles, CA. They are made almost completely out of foam, which is carved using 3D carving machines, then painted and sealed. So they aren’t as hard to move around as you would think. One day soon maybe we have have real mechs this size to crush us and kill us.

Lightning struck Rio's Jesus Christ statue and broke off his fingers

Rio de Janeiro, which has been getting lit up with lightning storms this week, just got hit with another one—and this one struck the city’s famous 125-foot tall Christ the Redeemer statue on top of the Corcovado mountain. A lightning bolt broke off a few fingers on his right hand.

Child’s Tombstone Shows Him Playing Pokémon

Redditor Paramorgue found an extraordinary tombstone in his hometown in Lund, Sweden. He says it’s dedicated to a boy who died when he was just five years old. The statue immortalizes the child enjoying perhaps what was one of his favorite pastimes: playing Pokémon.

In the statue, the child is holding a Game Boy Advance SP with a Graveler etched on the screen. The same Pokémon is also shown hiding under the Game Boy.

Robocop Statue Continues Its Journey to Detroit

We told you about Detroit’s Robocop Statue in the past. It’s one of the few joys that Detroit has left after some tough economic times. Now you can watch the unboxing of the form for the 10-foot-tall Robocop statue as it arrives at Venus Bronze Works in Detroit where it will be completed.

Pete Hottelet, who made the video, is a major investor of the project. As Pete says, “This is the foam sculpt; The bronze statue will be cast from these pieces. The final location for the statue is still to be determined, we are accepting solicitations so it gets the best placement possible.”

We will continue to cover this story until the mighty Robocop statue is standing guard over the city where he belongs.

Google’s KitKat statue unveiling may have leaked a new Nexus phone (update: video removed)

Google KitKat statue unveiling video may have leaked new Nexus phone

We always enjoy Google’s new statues for each version of Android, however the one posted just now for KitKat / 4.4 may have a bonus treat. The Googler in the green shirt is holding a device that reads Nexus on the back, however compared to the woman conveniently holding a Nexus 4 just inches away, it’s clearly not the same. The word Nexus is spelled out in a different direction, the camera seems different, and it looks bigger than the Nexus 4, but it appears to have an LG logo on the bottom. The video is embedded after the break, you can catch a glimpse of the mystery unit about 38 seconds in. It’s certainly curious timing for a new device to pop up, right after the old one dropped in price and is out of stock for at least one version.

Update: Well, you could have seen it in the video but Google has suddenly yanked it from YouTube, adding even more intrigue to the situation. We’ve contacted the company for a statement and will let you know if we hear anything.

Update 2: One of our commenters linked another video of the unveiling that also shows the device. It’s taken from behind the people shown above, and while we can’t get a clear look at the screen you can get a better idea of the phone’s dimensions. Whoops! It looks like that one’s gone now too.

Reddit Alien Knight Statue Stops Reposters and Trolls Dead in His Path

If you follow Reddit with any regularity, you know their mascot is that little alien dude with the antenna sticking out of his head. Inspired by all of the traffic and support that Reddit has driven their way, the guys over at ThisIsWhyImBroke have made a very special life-size version of the mascot.

The statue was created by TomSpinaDesigns, and stands over 5-feet-tall. This particular Reddit Alien was modeled after the Knights of the /new, a group of Redditors who help separate the wheat from the chaff over on the popular social bookmarking site. The knight sports a special shield with a Reddit coat of arms, an arrow-shaped downvote sword, and an adjustable antenna.

The statue was listed on ThisIsWhyImBroke for $7500(USD), but has since been sent to the Reddit offices as a gift. Wow. Nice present. Why doesn’t anyone ever send me something like this? I guess if I had over 37 billion pageviews last year, I’d have more fans.

Life-sized Mario Statue: Will It Shrink if You Hit It?

This statue of Mario must have been fed a Super Mushroom, because he’s big enough to run and jump around in our world. According to its seller, the statue is 150 cm. or about 5 ft. tall. I’m not sure if that’s Mario’s official height, but it seems about right.

You can get the statue from Amazon Japan for ¥ 285,000 (~$2,900 USD). If you’re not a Mario fan, the seller also has other life-sized statues, including one of Spider-Man, Mazinger Z and Tetsujin 28 aka Gigantor.
