Wall-mounted bicycle storage is incredibly practical, but usually leaves you with an industrial-looking mess when the bike’s in use. Not if you get hold of a Trophy Bicycle Holder: a modern riff on the stuffed animal head that doubles as a bike hanger. More »

Below we have a list of the interviews we did at this year’s show, both on-stage and off, so you can relive the thoughts, theories and comments that defined this year’s Consumer Electronics Show.

While most companies seem to use CES to unveil new products and hardware, some use the show to launch new software. Synology is one such company, bringing its DiskStation Manager up to version 4.2 beta during the show. DiskStation Manager, as pretty much every Synology user already knows, is the operating system the company has developed for its network attached servers.
The list of new features found in DiskStation Manager 4.2 beta is absolutely huge, so Synology users are definitely in for a treat. Some of the major highlights of this release include an expansion of QuickConnect to cover DS Photo+, DS File, and DS Audio. This upgrade should make it easier for new users to set these features up, which is always a plus.
iOS users now also have a DS Cloud app at their disposal, which seems to essentially be Synology’s in-house version of Dropbox. DSM’s Package Manager is also getting a pretty major overhaul with this release, and it adds a bunch of new ease-of-use features and new apps that users have specifically been asking for. If you’ve been bugging Synology for new apps and functionality in the Package Manager, there seems to be a pretty good chance that your wishes have been granted.
Jumping back to the Cloud-related features, Synology has done quite a bit with syncing in this latest release. For instance, Cloud Station is being brought up to version 2, and with this new version, the size limit for files is doubling – now users can sync files up to 10GB in size, rather than just 5GB. DiskStation Manager 4.2 beta is available for download right now from Synology’s website, with the full release following in another month or so. Be sure to check out our CES portal for all of our coverage from the show!

PhotoFast launches i-FlashDrive HD
Posted in: Today's ChiliPhotoFast has launched a new product CES 2013 called the i-FlashDrive HD. Don’t confuse this updated product with the companies i-FlashDrive that we talked about last summer. The new version has changes to make it work with the latest iPhone 5 and other tweaks.
The second-generation i-FlashDrive HD is designed to allow users to transfer, you, and share documents, images, video, and audio files between a number of gadgets and Apple devices. The transfer files between something such as your iPhone and your computer can be accomplished using the i-FlashDrive HD without needing battery power, a Wi-Fi network, or mobile network.
The new version of the drive is faster and slimmer than the original. The new device is compatible with the iPhone 5 when used in conjunction with the Apple Lightning adapter and will work for 30-pin devices as well. The hardware flash drive device works in conjunction with an application allowing users to upload, organize, edit, and manage files across multiple devices.
Those devices can include Mac computers, PCs, iPad, iPhone, and other devices that have a USB port. Video and other files can be played directly from the i-FlashDrive. The drive is available with 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB of storage. The i-FlashDrive HD ranges in price from $99-$329 depending on the capacity and all four capacities are available now.

Western Digital shows off upcoming WD Black hybrid drives, we go eyes-on (video)

As devices get thinner and thinner, there’s no place in the world for chunky hard drives, and to that end Western Digital has been talking about bringing ultra-thin 5mm hybrid drive technology to the market. We just got a look at the new drives, which will be branded WD Black — two 2.5-inch models consisting of a 500GB, 5mm thick (or thin) unit with 24GB of NAND memory, along with a 1TB, 7mm drive that also has 24GB of NAND. A spokesperson said that NAND could eventually go up to 32GB. There’s no performance figures or pricing available yet, but WD has already started shipping copies of the new models to OEMs, and expects that they’ll land in the laps of consumers within the next 6 months. For a brief video tour of the new products, head after the break.
