Spock Riding a Unicorn over a Rainbow…Fascinating

Whatever you have going on today, no matter how stressed out you are, things are about to get better. I present to you, Spock riding an unicorn over a rainbow. Yeah. Life is awesome.

Just check out the image and take a deep breath. Relax. And thank Tim O’Brien who made this painting for an issue of Men’s Health. THIS was in Men’s Health? Clearly I have to start reading that magazine.

Now I want to see the Star Trek TOS episode where this happens. I bet Kirk is riding one too. And McCoy. McCoy is probably hanging on for dear life and grumbling about how man wasn’t meant to ride such a beast. Why beam up to the Enterprise when you can ride a unicorn?

Want a Part Time Love? There’s a Dating Site For That

Unlike Stevie Wonder’s hit song Part Time Lover which was about, well, part-time lovers, this dating site called Part Time Love is all about helping people find their match, minus the pressure. It offers an unusual service that stays true to the name of the site: matchmaking for people who are looking for relationships without the usual strings attached.

part time love website 1 620x373magnify

Most people date to find a partner, but not with the strict timeline of getting hitched after X number of days like some people expect. So for that, there’s Part Time Love. The description on the site reads:

We are not a no-strings website. We are for singles looking for regular partners with mutual attraction, genuine friendship, respect and a magical spark but whom have no expectations of moving in after three months and value their free time and independence.

That’s definitely unconventional by most standards. But if you’re in a situation where you’re looking for a mate but have so many other things going on in your life at the same time, then this might be a worthy alternative to consider. Check out Part Time Love here.

Sheep Bedside Tables Are Sheer Insanity

This unusual bedside table was inspired by the works of Salvador Dalí and made by Oscar Tusquets, an artist in Spain. He built these drawers using taxidermied sheep. Obviously.

They specifically reference this image by Dalí seen here called “Interpretation Project for a Stable-Library.” You can see the sheep cabinet on the left side of the image. And now this dude is bringing it to life. Using dead sheep. Tusquets worked with a famous French taxidermy studio in Paris, to make 21 sheep cabinets in all. Each one has bronze feet, a tabletop and a drawer for all of your stuff that you absolutely must store in a dead sheep.

There will be 20 white sheep and one black sheep with white legs, just to keep things interesting. Each cabinet will sell for about $82,000(USD). Now that’s a lot of bah bah bucks.

Pizza Perfume Makes You Smell Good Enough to Eat

Pizza is one of the awesomest things made since sliced bread. I’m still somewhere in the middle though, when it comes to these pizza-scented fragrances from the Demeter Fragrance Library. While the idea is completely fun and out there, I’m not sure I want to go to work smelling like a freshly-baked pie.

The scent is described as containing notes of “tomato sauce, creamy mozzarella, [and] a touch of oregano.” In short, it will probably leave you smelling like your average pizza pie.

The cologne is just one of Demeter’s many pizza-themed offerings. Others include roll-on perfume oil, body lotion, shower gel, massage oil, atmosphere spray, and atmosphere diffuser oil. You can find pricing info on Demeter’s site.

Bigfoot Found!

If you had bet me that there would someday be two shows about finding Bigfoot on TV at the same time, you would have won that bet soundly. But here we are, and Sasquatch is bigger and hairier than ever. Now I wish I were on that 10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty show, because I’ve just found the beast.

bigfoot bust 1 620x941magnify

Unfortunately, this “life-size” Bigfoot is only a bust, so that probably doesn’t count for the $10 million prize. This detailed replica of the elusive, yet non-existent creature was made by DougFX, and is crafted from rubber, polyurethane foam, fake fur and glass eyes – which I have on good authority is what actual Bigfeets are made from. And lollipops.

Actually, this replica is based on the 1967 Patterson/Gimlin film of a Bigfoot nicknamed “Patty”

This monstrous Bigfoot bust can be yours for the low low price of $1500(USD). I guess if I had the money to spare, I’d actually consider buying one, if only so I could have my own reality show.

Paper-Thin Keyboard: Print and Press

The printed word is dying, but the printed keyboard is alive and kicking. And no, you won’t need a 3D printer to make one. A company called Novalia has made an incredibly thin Bluetooth keyboard made of photo paper, conductive ink and its proprietary electronic module.

Novalia made the keyboard to show off its advancements in printed technology, particularly the electronic module based on Nordic Semiconductor’s system-on-a-chip and a printing process that allows conventional printers to mass produce capacitive sensors.

Novalia’s technology could be used to make not just keyboards but other input devices as well, and existing printing presses could churn out hundreds of overlays with built-in sensors in a matter of minutes. Nordic Semiconductor says the module can last for up to nine months on a single CR2032 button cell battery.

I’m not sure if Novalia will make the keyboard available to the public. It does have Switchboard, a much simpler version of the keyboard on its online shop . That one’s made of foam board and has eight capacitive keys and sells for £25 (~$41 USD)

From the ISIS Library: How to Archer

I recently started watching the first few seasons of Archer on Netflix. I blame you all for not telling me how awesome the show was before. If you are a big fan of the show, you might wonder how you can be more like the world’s greatest spy, code-name Dutchess.

The How to Archer book promises to teach you everything you need to know to become Sterling Archer. You won’t be the real Archer, because he is himself and then there’s the fact that he is a cartoon. Still, you can be as close to Archer as you can be without actually being him.

The book promises to teach you to lie, because that is like 95% of what spies do. It will also teach you other needed skills like piloting an airboat, how to make drinks, and how to fight among other things. The book is available now for $16.99 (USD), and you can take a peek inside of it here.

Street-legal Cozy Coupe Doesn’t Look too Cozy

When my son was really small I probably pushed him 1000 miles in his red and yellow Little Tykes Cozy Coupe. I also flopped over the top of that little car a few times when the front wheels randomly stopped working at speed. If you have fond memories of these little toy cars, you might want to check out the street-legal version you can ride in now that you are grown up.

cozycoupemagnify

The car was made by a guy named John Bitmead. The builder says that he spent 1000 hours and about £4,000 (~$6m500 USD) on the project. The car started out as a Daewoo Matiz, has an 800cc engine inside of it and is street legal. It has a top speed of 70mph.

I don’t see how this thing can actually be street legal. I wouldn’t want to be in an accident in this thing, even though it has airbags. Check out the videos to see the car in action.

Arcade Machine Accepts Bitcoins: Bitcoin-op

A growing number of establishments are accepting Bitcoin as payment. Now you can even use it to play arcade games. British company Liberty Games combined the cutting edge currency with the aging gaming platform to make a simple transaction hilariously complicated. The company used a Raspberry Pi and a PiFace add-on to make the payment interface.

Liberty Games first tried their Bitcoin payment mod on a pool table. After receiving good feedback for that mod, the company decided to apply it on an arcade machine.

The great thing about their method is that it doesn’t mess with the machine’s software, which means it can be performed on pretty much any coin-operated arcade game. Not that you should.

Carved Geode Skull Looks Straight out of Indiana Jones

Growing up my grandmother had a round rock inside her flowerbed. She had carted around that rock for eleventy billion years, otherwise known as her childhood. My brother and I used to bowl with it because it was round and pissed off our grandmother. Once day we broke the rock in half, which wasn’t as hard as it might sound, and realized it was a geode.

I have had a soft spot of wonder for geodes since then. An artist named Skullis creates life-size hand-carved skulls out geodes and they are awesome. It looks like a prop from an Indiana Jones flick. Each skull is intricately carved and is open on the top showing the crystals inside the skull.

Someone already bought this particular geode skull for $1560(USD), and I would say that is money well spent. If you’d like a carved skull of your own, be sure to check out Skullis’ online shop, which has many other stone and crystal skulls available for purchase in a variety of sizes and price points. The black obsidian one is especially impressive:
