A smart TV box for a tenner is a nice thing, but one that streams Homeland on demand is arguably even nicer. As of today, owners of a Sky Now TV media player should see 4oD among their list of free channels, alongside the existing options like BBC iPlayer and Demand 5. Meanwhile, Channel Four’s catch-up service has also landed on Roku boxes this week, which makes sense considering that Sky has a sizable investment in that little hardware platform, too.

Verizon’s subscription streaming TV service, Redbox Instant, now supports Apple’s AirPlay thanks to a new version 1.4 iOS app update — with some caveats. For starters, though you’ll be able to play streaming content on your iOS 6 device, the app doesn’t support downloaded material as yet. Also, your viewing may be broken off if you receive texts and certain notifications, if you lock the device or if you quit Redbox to use another app. Meanwhile, AirPlay Mirroring, which lets you play from your device with your TV as a second screen, will still work just fine. Other tweaks include the usual bug fixes and improvements to the recommendations engine. So, if you’ve got Apple TV and want to give it a whirl, hit the source — just make sure to tell your pals not to contact you mid-film.

Do you hear that? That’s the sound of livestreamers’ dreams shattering, as Twitch has decided to strip its directory of all shows that broadcast through the PlayStation 4’s Playroom. The decision comes shortly after the website started to crack down on PS4 streams that focus on non-gaming (and often risqué) topics, which is against its terms of service. From the sound of it, Twitch probably thought suspending accounts wouldn’t be a proper solution, because — as a spokesperson told Joystiq — a majority of Playroom content wasn’t related to gaming anyway. Those that still dream of fame with the help of their PlayStation 4 Cameras and new consoles shouldn’t lose hope, though. This move might be temporary, as the outfit says it could bring bring back Playroom shows once PS4 owners become more familiar with the platform’s gaming focus.

Showtime Anytime has been able to be accessed with a number of service providers, but one of the major players, Time Warner Cable, was absent from that list since the beginning. Starting today, however, TWC customers can begin accessing Showtime’s streaming offering, including via the iOS/Android applications and on the web. Naturally, you’ll need to have a Showtime subscription as part of your cable package to view the content — if that’s all taken care of, you’ll be ready to stream Dexter and Homeland in no time and anytime you want. And hey, Bright House Networks subscribers, this applies to you as well.

A couple of months ago, Spotify Connect was announced for iOS — a feature that allows you to wirelessly control (via your home WiFi network) music playing on Connect-compatible speakers with your phone. Good news for Spotify users with Premium accounts and Android devices today, as their version of the app has now been endowed with all of Connect’s powers. Of course, the number of devices currently compatible with the feature is fairly slim, as Pioneer and Bang and Olufsen are Spotify’s only official partners. But, ’tis the season and there are some quality, if pricey, Connect-enabled speakers and receivers to be had — remember, kids, Santa only brings you what you ask for.

After launching on iOS and Android almost a year ago, the mobile version of Redbox Instant by Verizon has finally arrived in the Windows Phone Store. Aside from a few cosmetic changes and added Live Tile support, the new app works exactly like its cross-platform counterparts, offering movie streaming and maps to nearby Redbox kiosks. An $8 monthly subscription also covers the rental fees for up to four DVDs, although customers can upgrade to Blu-ray discs for an additional dollar. The bad news is that the app’s exclusive to Nokia’s Lumia range right now — plebes with other WP8 devices will have to wait until the end of January for general availability.

There was a moment when Turntable.fm was seemingly ready to usher in an era of social music, with virtual DJs leading the way. Unfortunately, that moment has passed; in light of a shrinking audience and high operating costs, Turntable.fm has announced that it will shut down its DJ service on December 2nd. The company will instead focus on Turntable Live, its social platform for streaming real-world concerts. It’s a sad day for musical tastemakers, although the company is going out of its way to support fans. Users can export their playlists and tracks to services like Spotify, and the company is promising both a commemorative t-shirt as well as a “last day” party on the 2nd. If you have fond memories of spinning tunes for friends across the country, we’d suggest making room in your calendar.

With 5 million paid subscribers in 180 countries, Deezer is such a ubiquitous presence that it’s easy to forget it’s not yet available in the US. That’s about to change, though, as the France-based online music service has told Le Figaro that it’d launch for Americans at an unspecified date in 2014. That’ll at last give it a crack at the $4.4 billion dollar US music market, which it had been avoiding due to formidable competitors like Rdio, Pandora and particularly Spotify, which has a worldwide paid user base of 6 million. That competitor only started two years ago in the US and has already seen boffo growth, though it had content deals in place with US mobile operators before launching. Deezer, on the other hand, is still seeking a stateside launch partner like the one it has with Orange, France’s largest wireless telecom. It’s also looking to do business outside the mobile sector as well, though it had one word for Le Figaro about a rumored Microsoft Xbox partnership: “Non.”
