Super Mario Song Played on Wine Glasses Sounds Just Like the Real Deal

If you listened with your eyes closed, you’d think this was just a video of someone playing Super Mario Bros on a vintage Nintendo. But there’s not a controller in sight. Just 48 wine glasses and a frying pan. Dan Newbie of YouTube, you’re a maestro of the kitchen.

Each title is included in alphabetical order. The video for the NES is three hours-long, while the Super Nintendo one is a whopping nine hours-long. With that kind of a time commitment, you might be better off just playing the games. However, it is a nice walk down memory lane.

Do you recognize them all? Sadly, I remember most of them. I must have spent years worth of time playing these games, but I wouldn’t change a thing. Gaming was amazing in those days.

RetroN 4 Console Will Play NES, SNES, Genesis & Gameboy Through HDMI

RetroN 4 Console Will Play NES, SNES, Genesis & Gameboy Through HDMI

Like the RetroN 3, but imagine a Gameboy Advance port

As much fun as I’ve been having playing Tomb Raider this week, I still like to dabble in some old-school gaming from time to time. The only issue is I tend to gravitate towards emulators since I no longer own my classic video game systems, but Hyperkin’s RetroN 4 console seems to be something I, and I’m sure many of you, would want in your old-school gaming lives.

The RetroN 4 will feature four cartridge slots that will allow you to play NES, Super NES, Sega Genesis and Game Boy Advance games all hooked up to your HDTV setup through its HDMI output. We bet if you took this thing back in time to your younger self, it would make them the coolest kid on the block! (more…)

Emergency Portable SNES: Survive the Apocalypse with Super Mario World

You have to be prepared for disasters – whether it is a hurricane, a tornado, a zombie apocalypse, whatever. The end result could be that you could be without power. Forget food and water and blankets. You need to be ready to be able to play some classic Nintendo while you wait to be rescued.

Redditor robotairz has you covered. He has created a portable set-up that you can build yourself. This shock-proof yellow Pelican 1300 case is loaded with an SNES console, controllers, and games. It has everything two players need to keep themselves entertained for hours while civilization crumbles around them. It runs on batteries and even has a built in charger and LCD screen.

It cost about $425 to build, but being able to play Donkey Kong Country is priceless.

Portable SNES Mod Features 10+ Hours Of Gameplay In Shock-Proof Case

Portable SNES Mod Features 10+ Hours Of Gameplay In Shock Proof Case

Portable gaming has become quite big recently with the release of Nintendo’s 3DS, Sony’s PS Vita and of course, with the rise in popularity of iOS and Android phones and tablets. What hasn’t exactly taken off is making full-sized consoles of yesteryear portable, but after seeing this portable SNES, it might spark a trend of making old consoles new again with the addition of portability.

A modded known as robotairz on Reddit shared his creation today, which he says he actually made some time last year which leads us to believe he may very well be the busiest modder ever known. The portable SNES comes in a yellow, thick carrying case whose interior is completely shock-proof meaning it can probably be hit by a tornado and still survive for some random old-school gaming sessions.

The portable SNES is powered by six 3.7v 5000mAh li-po batteries and has a charger built into it allowing for the ability to just plug it into a wall to charge it up. Depending on the game being played, the portable SNES can play for around 10+ hours on a single charge. The LCD included is an 8″ LCD whose resolution is 800×600.

If you’re looking to have such a portable gaming unit in your life, robotairz is looking to sell it, so get in contact with him quick if you absolutely need to have this in your life.

SNES Controller Cake Makes Button-Mashing Messy

Ah, the old SNES controller. How many hours have you spent mashing buttons and entering cheat codes on this controller? Me, I can’t even begin to count them. Now you can have your controller and eat it too, with this awesomely geeky SNES Controller cake.

It’s shockingly accurate too. You could play some serious Donkey Kong Country with this thing as long as you don’t mind a huge mess all over your hands and table. I call the D-pad, because D stands for “delicious.” Those mushrooms look pretty tasty too. I hear they make you grow.

So if we just had a second controller cake we could have a two player cake-eating contest. But as is often the case, some of the best games are single-player only, and I wouldn’t mind eating this thing alone.
