Oh, that yellow spandex with beautiful blue trunks. As classic as that suit was, I have no beef with Wolverine’s badassery tossing that away in the movies (plus, with a body like Hugh Jackman’s…). But still, it’s nice to see the Wolverine we all loved as a child again. Here’s the full history of all the suits that Wolverine has ever worn.
In the spirit of San Diego Comic Con, the White House is set to host a special geek-themed Google+ Hangout tomorrow, July 19th, at 12:00 PM ET to celebrate the geniuses pioneering real-life superhero-style technology. The event, part of its “We the Geeks” series, will cover recent innovations in materials science that could potentially take us to infinity and beyond, like impenetrable liquid armor, self-healing and touch-sensitive synthetic skin. Joining the Hangout are notable experts including (but certainly not limited to) James Kakalios, author of The Physics of Superheroes, Nathan Landy, a Duke University graduate student working on an invisibility cloak and Nate Ball, host of PBS’s Design Squad Nation and inventor of the Batman-like Ascender. Got a question for these real world Tony Starks? Share it via Twitter or Google+ using the hashtag #WeTheGeeks.

Because we don’t have any real life superheroes in this totally lame world of ours, we obsess over the lives of silly celebrities with beautiful cheekbones and photoshopped curves and cry over athletes wearing fresh laundry. It’s what we call fun! But if superheroes existed on Earth, all those puny humans would never make the cover of magazines ever again. We’d obsess over superheroes all the time.
There’s really only one reason to see the new Superman movie: to watch people with superhuman powers pounding the crap out of each other, flying into each other and burninating each other with heat vision. Luckily, The Man of Steel more than delivers on the super-punching front, even as it muddles through in other ways.
Cancer sucks. There’s no cure (yet) – only prevention – and no one’s exempt from either getting it now or in the future. Every year, men and women, young and old, fall ill to the dreaded Big ‘C’. It’s a painful and difficult process for everyone, but probably more so for kids who might not completely understand what’s happening.
So to make things better, even just a little bit, the A.C. Camargo Cancer Center in São Paulo, Brazil teamed up with Warner Bros. to give their children’s cancer center a new look.
The theme? Superheroes. Chemotherapy has been rebranded as ‘superformula’ to fight against one of the biggest villains against humanity. IV bags are tucked into colorful Justice League-themed boxes to make them look cooler, and special comic books are handed out depicting how Justice League characters lost but then gained their powers after undergoing similar treatments as the young patients.
(The) experience went far beyond the covers by also providing a new look to the entire Children’s Ward: the game room was turned into the Hall of Justice, corridors and doors were decorated in the same theme, and the exterior acquired an exclusive entrance for these little heroes… As any good cancer doctor will tell you, the most important step in fighting the disease is believing in a cure.
Belief breeds hope, and hope breeds strength. With a fighting spirit, cancer can be beaten, just like every other villain out there.

How do superheroes afford being, well, superheroes? It doesn’t seem too lucrative a gig given the time commitment and hazardous work conditions but yet every hero still seems to make ends meet. But if superheroes are struggling financially, they should totally look into sponsoring themselves. Iron Man by McDonald’s. Monster Hulk. Captain America’s What Can Brown Do For You? This is how sponsored superheroes would look like. More »
Funny Pop Culture Scenes in LEGO
Posted in: Today's ChiliSome people build starships with LEGO, others build houses or recreate classic movie moments. Christian Cantrell has his own unique take – borrowing from popular culture and creating humorous scenes using LEGO bricks. Some of these scenes are downright brilliant, cute and funny.
How about a young punk Luke Skywalker smashing mailboxes with his lightsaber? Or Batman and Captain America laughing at Spider-Man, who is afraid of spiders? One of my favorites are the Stormtroopers riding mouse droids like skateboards. I would say that Christian is a LEGO comedian and artist in one.
Head to Christian’s page on 500px to check out more of his hilarious images. Every one of them is worth a look and will leave you wanting more.

The life of a superhero is a solitary one, no matter how fantastic the four. The powers that make heroes unique and special are the same that isolate and distance them from the rest of society. Marko Manov delves into this dichotomy in his fan art series “Superhero Noir” by mixing modern-day mythologies with a classic cinematic style. [Behance via Nerd Approved] More »
