Microsoft Convinces 12 Year Old Girl To Get The Surface 2 Over The iPad Mini

Naturally in a family there are those who use Android, those who use iOS, some who prefer BlackBerry, some might prefer Windows Phone, and so on. There really isn’t a right or wrong answer her since it all boils down to personal preference, but one dad thought he would be able to convince his daughter to get a Microsoft Surface tablet instead of an iPad mini. Microsoft Surface 2 With LTE Tablet Arriving March 18

Microsoft Surface 2 With LTE Tablet Arriving March 18It is a no brainer that the Microsoft Surface 2 with LTE connectivity will arrive in a matter of time, but the main question on everyone’s minds would be this – when? Apparently, the Microsoft Surface 2 with LTE tablet is set to arrive on March 18, which is tomorrow, where it will play nice with AT&T’s 4G LTE network while sporting 64GB of internal memory, with an asking price of $679 a pop.

Surface 2 With LTE Spotted At The FCC

Surface 2 With LTE Spotted At The FCCBack in October 2013, Microsoft launched their brand new Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets. Both tablets offered up WiFi connectivity but at the same time, we’re sure that many wouldn’t mind if the tablets came with an LTE option. After all not everywhere provides WiFi and tethering to your phone is a good and quick way to use up your data. The good news was that during an AMA on Reddit, the Surface team promised that Surface 2 tablets with LTE and GPS connectivity will be launched in 2014, and the good news is that it looks like we’re one step closer. This is thanks to a recent FCC filing where an LTE-enabled Surface 2 tablet was spotted.

Given that Surface boss, Panos Panay, stated that the Surface 2 with LTE will be arriving on AT&T, we can only assume that the model spotted at the FCC will be destined for AT&T’s networks. As for other countries, it seems that Microsoft has partnered with Vodafone so if you wanted your Surface 2 with LTE, you’d have to head on over to Vodafone for it. There’s no telling when the LTE version will be launched, or if we will see a Surface Pro 2 with LTE, but we reckon it’s still good news nonetheless. Hopefully we will learn more about the tablet’s availability soon, if not at Microsoft’s Build conference which will take place in April.

Surface 2 Tablets Back In Stock On Microsoft Store Website

Surface 2 Tablets Back In Stock On Microsoft Store Website

Last month it was reported that the online Microsoft Store had sold out of most Surface 2 tablets one week prior to Christmas. It was unclear why the company was struggling to meet demand, that too in a lucrative period such as the holiday season. Most models have actually been sold out online for a few weeks now, just one model of both Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablet was available during this time. It appears that Microsoft has now been able to ease up supply once again as most Surface 2 models are now back in stock.

Right now, customers can purchase the previously sold out 32GB and 64GB models of the Surface 2 tablets through the online Microsoft Store. 64GB Surface Pro 2 is back in stock with the 512GB model, but still the 128GB and 256GB models remain out of stock, so does the 32GB original Surface RT. When Microsoft was contacted late last year to elaborate on these apparent stock shortages, the company only said that it was actively working with its manufacturing teams to get Surface tablets in customers’ hands as soon as possible. It hasn’t revealed what exactly is the problem that’s keeping various Surface 2 models out of the online store. Those who have been waiting for any of the models mentioned above can head to the Microsoft Store website right now to purchase, who knows when they might run out of stock again.

Microsoft Targets The Galaxy Tab In Ad This Time Around

We have seen just how cheeky Microsoft can get by targeting some of the rival tablets in its ads recently, where the Surface RT was seen firing a salvo at the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 from Samsung, while Apple’s iPad Air was not exempted either, as it was compared to the Surface 2. This time around, we have seen Microsoft aim their crosshairs at the Samsung Galaxy Tab, where said tablet was lambasted for not having a full sized USB port, unlike Microsoft’s Surface RT tablet, of course.

This would be a great advantage for those who want to juice up their smartphone, or connect a camera or a smartphone to their tablet without having to purchase yet another cable to add to their collection. Do you think that advertisements such as these would actually be able to work? After all, it is always nice to be respectful of your rivals in the marketplace, and somehow, telling the world about the good points of your items alone should be the more gentlemanly thing to do, it seems. Ah well, all’s fair in love and war, are they not? It would be interesting to see whether Apple and Samsung already have some sort of counterattacking plan in store…

New Microsoft Surface RT Ad Takes Aim At The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1

It was just yesterday that Microsoft decided to treat us to a video in which the company’s Surface 2 tablet was compared against the likes of the iPad Air. This was shortly after Microsoft’s latest Scroogled campaign and also shortly after Nokia released a video of their Lumia 2520 that poked fun at the iPad Air as well. In any case it looks like Microsoft is back again and this time they’re basically taking the same ad but are comparing it against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, a tablet released by Samsung several months ago.

The argument Microsoft made is the same as the one they made with the iPad Air, which is basically highlighting how the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 does not sport a full-sized USB port, but rather a micro USB one that is only used for charging. Granted for productivity reasons, having a full-sized USB port means you will be able to transfer documents and files from a flash drive or external hard drive, but in today’s day and age, cloud storage is a way we can retrieve files from one location on multiple devices, unless of course internet is not available which could pose a problem then, but what do you guys think? Is the lack of a full-sized USB port a valid argument?

Microsoft Releases New Surface 2 Ad Targeting The iPad Air

Microsoft seems to be on a roll these days when it comes to poking fun at their competition. Earlier we saw how Microsoft’s Scroogled campaign dismissed the Google Chromebook as a proper laptop, and now we are seeing how Microsoft is taking yet another shot at Apple’s iPads, comparing the company’s own Surface 2 tablet against it. We suppose it’s become common knowledge that the iPad does not sport the same hardware features as the Surface 2, namely how it does not come with USB ports, nor is there an option to purchase a cover with a keyboard attached to it (you’d have to go for third party options), and also how there is no HDMI output on the iPad either.

These are pretty much the points that Microsoft is trying to make against the iPad Air and to be fair, these are valid arguments. However at the end of the day it really boils down to a variety of factors, such as pricing, availability of apps, ecosystem, overall feel, and etc. In any case this attempt by Microsoft follows hot on the heels of Nokia’s own ad where it compares the company’s recently release Lumia 2520 tablet against the iPad Air as well.

Microsoft To Issue Update To Address Surface 2 Overheating Issue

Microsoft To Issue Update To Address Surface 2 Overheating IssueWhen you game on a device, doesn’t matter whether it’s on a PC, a laptop, a tablet, or a smartphone, it can get pretty intensive and it will consume more resources compared to checking your email. This means that there are times when your device gets a bit hot (PCs and laptops have the advantage of having cooling systems to help counteract this problem), and it seems that Microsoft’s Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets have been experiencing overheating, which Microsoft has since reassured owners of either tablet that an update is expected to be issued soon that will correct that issue.

According to the reports, users are claiming that their screens are suddenly dimming for no reason, but apparently this is due to overheating in which the BIOS attempts to dim the display to try and cool the unit, with some customers thinking that they might have a defective unit. Microsoft has released a statement saying, “We’re working on a tuning update that will remove this unnecessary dimming event.  You can expect this update in an upcoming Windows Update package.  In the meantime allow the Surface to cool down for a minute or so in order to return the screen to previous brightness levels.” Any Surface 2 or Surface Pro 2 owners experiencing said overheating with their devices?

Patch Tuesday Sees Firmware Updates For Surface, Surface 2 And Surface Pro

Patch Tuesday Sees Firmware Updates For Surface, Surface 2 And Surface ProIt is that time of the month again, where every second Tuesday of each month equals to Patch Tuesday for those who are running a Windows-powered device. Whenever you check out the settings on your PC, you will most probably come across details such as security updates for Internet Explorer in addition to firmware updates for your Surface devices, and the firmware updates for the most recent Patch Tuesday would cater for the Surface RT, Surface 2, and Surface Pro. The Surface Pro 2 would not gain anything from the most recent Patch Tuesday though.

You will be able to check out the update notes for the Surface RT here, and do bear in mind that this update will only be meant for Windows 8, and not 8.1, where it will enable the use of the Japanese Touch and Type Cover 2 accessories. As for the Surface 2, the updates would roll out for the Surface 2 that sport a range of improvements across the device in addition to its accessories. Updates for the Surface Pro depend on whether you are running Windows 8 or 8.1, although those who are still on Windows 8 will be on the receiving end of an update that enables you to use the Japanese Touch and Type Cover 2 accessories.
