Microsoft Surface Mini Could Be Marketed As A Note Taking Device [Rumor]

Microsoft Surface Mini Could Be Marketed As A Note Taking Device [Rumor]We have been hearing rumors about how Microsoft could be planning on releasing a Surface mini tablet. In fact a couple of months ago, it was even suggested that the Surface mini could be getting an official unveiling later this June, although it is only a rumor and nothing has been confirmed by Microsoft just yet.

Now according to a new rumor, it seems that additional information about the Surface mini have surfaced (no pun intended) once again. While the Surface series of Windows-based tablets are perfect at getting a variety of tasks done, whether it be watching movies, editing photographs, or creating spreadsheets or documents, the Surface mini will apparently be designed more towards note taking.

With its rumored 8-inch size, the tablet has been rumored to be marketed as a note taking sort of device and could even feature support for styluses, much like how Samsung’s Galaxy Note series of phablets gets additional functions when used in conjunction with the S Pen stylus. The rumors also suggests that Microsoft could be looking to create app designed for such tasks and that would be optimized for the smaller body, as opposed to the Surface’s 10-inch display.

It has also been claimed that production of the Surface mini has been completed, meaning that Microsoft could be close to unveiling it in all of its official capacity. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think of Microsoft’s alleged plan to market it as a glorified notepad?

Surface Mini Rumored To Feature Kinect Like Motion Sensing

Surface Mini Rumored To Feature Kinect Like Motion Sensing

Microsoft has already released two generations of its Surface tablets, for now it appears to be committed to its tablet project, which has yielded mixed results in various markets around the globe. Rumors have circulated for quite some time now that Microsoft has yet another tablet up its sleeve, one with a small form factor than the existing Surface tablets. Called the Surface Mini, this tablet is believed to be unveiled next year. As per the latest rumors, its possible for this tablet to coming with Kinect like motion sensing features, which would allow users to control it through hand and face movements.

The rumor that Surface Mini tablet will come with similar somatosensory technology employed by Kinect, also made by Microsoft, comes from Chinese publication WPDang which claims to have received it from an anonymous source. The source claims that this feature will work much smoother than the gesture features currently offered by Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3. Other rumors specifications of this tablet include an 8 inch full 1080p HD display, an Intel Bay Trail Processor and Windows 8.1. No information on pricing or availability has been made public as yet, the design itself is yet to be seen. Microsoft has not confirmed as yet when we can expected to see the Surface Mini tablet.

Microsoft Surface Boss Promises Multiple Sizes And Aspect Ratios

Microsoft Surface Boss Promises Multiple Sizes And Aspect Ratios

Last month Microsoft unveiled its new Surface tablets. However the company didn’t even mention the Surface mini tablet that it is rumored to be working on. Up till now, Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed that somewhere down the road, it will release a toned down version of its Surface tablet. Microsoft Surface chief Panos Panay has dropped a hint though of what is to come in the future. Speaking at the special Surface event at the company’s Seattle store last night, Panay said that there are a lot of great things that Microsoft is thinking about and working on, with regards to Surface. He said that “multiple aspect ratios and sizes and awesome things” will come from Surface.

Existing Surface tablets use the 16:9 aspect ratio, which makes it hard to use the tablets in portrait mode, partly because of the length of the display. The Surface mini tablet is rumored to have a 7.5 inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, which will make it much more easier to use the tablet in portrait mode. Panay also mentioned at the event that AT&T LTE Surface 2 will be released early next year. A LTE variant of the tablet will also be released on Vodafone in Europe. He has clarified that there will be no LTE variant of the Surface Pro 2.

Surface Mini Allegedly Delayed Until Spring 2014

Surface Mini Allegedly Delayed Until Spring 2014

There’s been a lot of talk these days about a Surface Mini tablet from Microsoft. The company recently unveiled its next generation Surface tablets but did not mention a toned down version at all, so at this point in time it can’t be said for sure if Redmond really does intend to releasing a “mini” variant of its tablet. The latest rumor suggests that the tablet has been delayed until Spring 2014 as it will come with a Windows 8.1 update, called “Spring 2014 GDR,” pre-installed.

Apparently Spring 2014 GDR, or General Distribution Release, will align Windows 8.1 with Windows Phone 8.1, which is going to be the first substantial update made to the mobile platform since Windows Phone 8 came out last year. It is expected that Microsoft will launch Windows 8.1 Spring 2014 GDR, Windows Phone 8.1 as well as the Surface tablet, “on or about the same time,” in Spring next year. As far as the Surface Mini itself is concerned, it is rumored to have a 7.5 inch display with a resolution of 1,400×1,050. Reportedly priced under $449, the tablet is likely to have 3G/4G connectivity. Design language is expected to be similar to the full fledged Surface tablets. Microsoft has kept itself tight-lipped about the Surface Mini, it might take some time before it officially tells us about the tablet.

    Alleged Surface Mini Specs Revealed

Alleged Surface Mini Specs RevealedJust the other day Microsoft took the wraps off their new Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets, but interesting enough the company did not make any mention about the possibility of a Surface Mini, a device which has been rumored for a while now but not mentioned at all by Microsoft during their presentation. It is possible that the Surface Mini could merely be a fake and a false rumor, but at the same time it could be that the device is not primed for launch yet which is why Microsoft has kept mum on the details.

In any case thanks to new information obtained by CNET, some of the alleged Surface Mini specs have surfaced. According to them, the device will feature a 7.5” display with an aspect ratio of 4:3 and a resolution of 1400×1050. It will run on Window RT and could feature 3G/4G connectivity, just like the new Surface tablets thanks to an LTE SKU that has been planned for release in 2014. No release date has been given, but the tablet is expected to begin production in Q1 of 2014, so it is possible that we could see a launch in the later part of next year. The price has also been tentatively set below $449, which hopefully will make it a more appealing and affordable tablet. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think of a smaller Microsoft Surface tablet?
