Microsoft Surface Pro 2 Purchase Comes With Free Controller, 2 GamesI guess some of us gamers out there are waiting patiently for the day when Microsoft would finally introduce an Xbox gaming version of its Surface tablets, but in the mean time, why not focus on something that is in the here and now? I am referring to picking up a spanking new Microsoft Surface Pro 2, where each purchase will now be accompanied by freebies such as a free controller and a couple of games to help you get started right out of the box. This is an offer that will be available only on the Microsoft Store website and nowhere else, or so it seems.

Surface Pro 2 Users Experiencing Slow WiFi When Bluetooth Is Enabled

Surface Pro 2 Users Experiencing Slow WiFi When Bluetooth Is EnabledIt seems that there have been a series of complaints regarding the Microsoft Surface Pro 2 tablet. According to the reports, users are complaining that WiFi speeds on their tablets slow down dramatically whenever Bluetooth is enabled. We can only imagine this is very annoying especially if Bluetooth is a feature that you use quite often.

According to one complaint on the Microsoft official support forum, “I have Bluetooth wireless audio receiver from Logitech which used to work great with my VIAO laptop, but when using it on my new surface the WiFi connection goes really really slow (seems to me it’s not transmitting or receiving anything)!” (more…)

Surface Pro 2 Tablets Apparently Still Using Older Processors

Surface Pro 2 Tablets Apparently Still Using Older ProcessorsEarlier this year we reported that Microsoft had quietly updated its Surface Pro 2 tablets with a new processor, specifically that of the Intel Core i5-4300U clocked at 1.9GHz. This is compared to the first iteration of the Surface Pro 2 tablet that was clocked slightly slower at 1.6GHz and ran on an Intel Core i5-4200U processor.

Given that we heard about these changes in January, we’d have expected that Microsoft would have released the updated tablets by now, but as it turns out, they haven’t. According to a report from PC Pro, one of their readers, Jo Halfacre called Microsoft to verify if the new Surface Pro 2 tablets did indeed sport the 4300U processors, to which the rep on the phone said that it did which led to her placing her order. Surface 2 Tablets Back In Stock On Microsoft Store Website

Surface 2 Tablets Back In Stock On Microsoft Store Website

Last month it was reported that the online Microsoft Store had sold out of most Surface 2 tablets one week prior to Christmas. It was unclear why the company was struggling to meet demand, that too in a lucrative period such as the holiday season. Most models have actually been sold out online for a few weeks now, just one model of both Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablet was available during this time. It appears that Microsoft has now been able to ease up supply once again as most Surface 2 models are now back in stock.

Right now, customers can purchase the previously sold out 32GB and 64GB models of the Surface 2 tablets through the online Microsoft Store. 64GB Surface Pro 2 is back in stock with the 512GB model, but still the 128GB and 256GB models remain out of stock, so does the 32GB original Surface RT. When Microsoft was contacted late last year to elaborate on these apparent stock shortages, the company only said that it was actively working with its manufacturing teams to get Surface tablets in customers’ hands as soon as possible. It hasn’t revealed what exactly is the problem that’s keeping various Surface 2 models out of the online store. Those who have been waiting for any of the models mentioned above can head to the Microsoft Store website right now to purchase, who knows when they might run out of stock again.

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 Firmware Update Released Once Again

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 Firmware Update Released Once Again

Back in December, Microsoft rolled out a firmware update for the Surface Pro 2 tablet. Soon after the roll out, users complained about failed installations, and those who had been able to install the update, complained about a plethora of issues caused by said update, thus Microsoft abruptly pulled it. This update was part and parcel of the company’s December package of Surface updates, however it was pulled so that Microsoft could investigate and fix the issues. The Surface Pro 2 firmware update has now been re-released, and initial reports are that the issues have been taken care of.

This new update is being offered to all Surface Pro 2 owners, those who were able to install the previous version in December and those who never been tried installing the update back then. This update comes only a few days after Microsoft released a firmware update for the Surface Pro, improving support for its new Touch and Type Cover 2 peripherals. The latest Surface Pro 2 update comes outside of Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday, the day it normally rolls out updates on. Surface Pro 2 owners should start receiving the update notification on their tablets if they haven’t already, but seeing as how its most likely to be a phased roll out, it might take some time for the update to become available in all regions.

Microsoft Quietly Upgrades Surface Pro 2 Tablets With Newer Processors

Microsoft Quietly Upgrades Surface Pro 2 Tablets With Newer ProcessorsPlanning on getting your hands on a Microsoft Surface Pro 2 tablet? Well you might want to hold off on doing so just yet, at least for a week or two because according to reports, it seems that Microsoft has quietly upgraded the CPU of the Surface Pro 2 tablet, giving it a bump in clock speed as well in terms of features, which oddly enough the company did not announce. Then again we guess many original Surface Pro 2 owners might not be pleased to hear that Microsoft is now selling an improved version while they’re running an “older” model. So what are the changes that Microsoft made?

Currently the Surface Pro 2 sports a Intel i5-4200U chipset clocked at 1.6GHz. The new Surface Pro 2 models run an Intel i5-4300U chipset clocked at a speedier 1.9GHz, which also includes Intel’s Trusted Execution Technology that helps improve software security. This little upgrade was discovered when one Surface Pro 2 owner swapped his faulty unit for a new one and discovered the changes. According to a statement made by Microsoft, “Microsoft routinely makes small changes to internal components over the lifetime of a product, based on numerous factors including supply chain partnerships, availability, and value for our customers.”

It is unclear why Microsoft makes these changes as it does seem a tad unfair to early adopters who might feel a little bit cheated that they paid the same amount but for older hardware, but in any case if you have yet to get the Surface Pro 2 tablet, you might want to hold off until older stock gets depleted, or head on over to the store and check out its hardware first before buying.

Microsoft Could Release Surface Pro 2 Update Earlier Than Expected

Microsoft Could Release Surface Pro 2 Update Earlier Than ExpectedJust last week we reported that Microsoft had pulled the Surface Pro 2 update and while that’s fine, what was not cool was the fact that Microsoft had planned to release the update after the holiday season, meaning that Surface Pro 2 owners were in for a wait and could only expect the update come January 2014. Well the good news is that Microsoft seems to have heard the disgruntled cries of its customers who weren’t too thrilled about such a long wait, and have released a statement saying that the update could arrive earlier than expected.

According to Microsoft, “To ensure the best experience for our customers, we have taken steps to remove the update for Surface Pro 2 that was previously published through Windows Update on December 10th, 2013 […] We are working to release an alternative update package as soon as possible.” Granted “as soon as possible” doesn’t necessarily mean we can expect it today or tomorrow, but it does sound better than “after the holidays”, which was what Microsoft had initially stated. This doesn’t give us a definite release date either, but we will keep our eyes peeled and update you guys once we know more.

Microsoft Pulls Surface Pro 2 Update

Microsoft Pulls Surface Pro 2 UpdateHeads up Surface Pro 2 owners, it seems as though there is a problem with the latest update that Microsoft had issued on the 10th of December 2013, which has since prompted the company pull the update. Microsoft was not specific on what the problems were, but apparently it was affecting enough users to the point where they had to pull it from their servers, lest it starts affecting on a larger scale. According to a statement released by Microsoft, “To ensure the best experience for our customers during the holiday season, we have taken steps to remove the update for Surface Pro 2 that was previously published through Windows Update on December 10th, 2013 […] We are working to release an alternative update package after the holidays.”

That’s right, you read that correctly! If you were hoping that Microsoft would promptly release a fixed update in the near future, you would be mistaken and disappointed as it looks like you would have to wait quite a bit until the holidays are past, which means that we could be looking at a possible release sometime in January of 2014. Until then we guess you can’t really do much but to remain patient and play the waiting game.

Microsoft Surface 2 Receives Updates To Improve Battery Life And More

Microsoft Surface 2 Receives Updates To Improve Battery Life And More

In the latest round of Patch Tuesday software updates, Microsoft has rolled out updates for its new Surface 2 Windows RT 8.1 powered tablet. A lot of things have been improved through the update, including but not limited to the battery life. Last month Microsoft released a battery life improvement update for the Surface Pro 2 that brought a significant change, so it will be interesting to see just how much of a performance boost Surface 2 battery life gets. The updates also include camera, system performance and stability as well as all Type Cover and Touch Cover performance improvements.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers have been updated to boost wireless display performance. The update also improves audio, particularly when switching to speaker playback after disconnecting headset. Surface Pro 2 hasn’t been forgotten, Microsoft has rolled out minor updates for the tablet as well. An update to the LifeCam driver has been rolled out that increases TrueColor fidelity. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers have been updated to enhance wireless display performance as well as improve Wi-Fi stability and performance. These updates are automatically installed on the tablets through Windows Update, however users can manually install them by heading to the Settings app and going in the Change PC settings menu.
