Microsoft Surface 2 To Appear On September 23rd

Over the past few weeks we’ve heard a number of rumors about Microsoft’s next generation tablets. The company has finally revealed when it intends to unveil the new Surface tablets. The Surface 2 launch event takes place on September 23rd in New York City, Microsoft sent invites to the media today. It was rumored that perhaps Microsoft will also launch a Surface mini tablet this year, but according to various sources, that device is not going to be unveiled on September 23rd.

The design of Microsoft’s next generation tablets is expected to be similar to the existing Surface tablets. The Surface Pro 2 is expected to get Intel’s new Haswell processors and 8GB of RAM. A refined kickstand is rumored for both Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets. A recent rumor suggests that a docking station might also be unveiled, the station would allow Surface Pro 2 to be connected to an external display. For the entry level tablet, Microsoft has apparently gone with NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 processor and a 1080p HD display. It is expected to drop the “RT” label, even though it will run on Windows 8.1 RT. Now that the launch event date has officially been announced, we can start counting down the days until Microsoft shows us how it has made the Surface tablets better.

Dock For Microsofts Surface Tablets Is Apparently In The Pipeline

As per rumors, Microsoft might launch its new Surface tablets later this year. The Surface Pro 2 tablet is expected to have more RAM, Intel’s latest Haswell processor and a refined kickstand. It is now being said that the company may also release a dock for its new tablet. The dock will apparently allow the user to attach Surface Pro 2 to an external display. Attaching keyboards and other peripherals might also be easy since the dock is said to have three USB ports as well. At this point in time it is not known exactly when this dock will be released and what it will cost. One can assume that it will be released alongside the new tablet, or soon after.

The dock will enable customers to have a better and complete desktop experience with the tablet. Rumor has it that this dock will also work with the existing Microsoft Surface Pro tablet. Microsoft hasn’t revealed as yet when it intends on releasing the next generation Surface tablets. The Surface Pro 2 isn’t expected to see any price cuts and it is said to have the same design as its predecessor. Microsoft had said earlier this year that it has no plans to create a dock for its tablets, if these reports are true, then it has evidently changed its mind.

Surface Pro 2 Rumored To Have More RAM, Haswell Processor And Refined Kickstand

Surface Pro 2 Rumored To Have More RAM, Haswell Processor And Refined Kickstand

Microsoft’s Surface tablets haven’t exactly proved to be a hit. They ended up costing the company almost $900 million. Over the last few weeks we saw Microsoft offer a number of discounts for its tablets, one reason for the discounts is that the company wants to sell more tablets, the other is that they’re clearing inventory and making way for the new Surface tablets. Rumor has it that the Surface Pro 2 will have Intel’s latest Haswell based processor, more RAM and a refined kickstand.

According to Neowin, the Surface Pro 2 will be powered by a Haswell based Core i5 processor, RAM is expected to be doubled from the existing 4GB to 8GB. No design changes are rumored, it is expected to look identical to the current Surface Pro. The kickstand refinement hasn’t been elaborated upon. The Haswell processor seems like a logical choice, given how it will help boost the battery life. The existing Surface Pro doesn’t offer an impressive battery life, its definitely a shortcoming that needs to be fixed. There have been no rumors of the launch window as yet. As far as pricing is concerned, it is believed that there won’t be much change. According to previous rumors, the new Surface tablets might be released later this year.
