1 In 10 Americans Equate HTML With An STD

Tech jargon can be mind boggling, particularly if you’re someone with no interest whatsoever in technology. However, some terms are simple enough that most people would presume everyone knows what they really mean. HTML or HyperText Markup Language is commonly known as a language used to develop websites, its defined in most computer science textbooks, but a survey finds that 1 in 10 Americans think that HTML is actually an STD, or sexually transmitted disease.

PS4 Gamers Three Times More Likely To Watch Porn Compared To Xbox One Gamers

PS4 Gamers Three Times More Likely To Watch Porn Compared To Xbox One GamersPorn on our gaming consoles? Where have we heard that before? It seems that consoles these days no longer focus on just gaming, but entertainment as well in the form of music, web surfing, interaction with friends, and even videos, and perhaps to cater to a more adult audience, adult videos have also been introduced to our consoles, one of them being online porn rental service, SugarDVD, who recently found some rather interesting data which was based on the data they managed to gather for the month of December. According to their findings, it seems that there were three times as many PS4 gamers who signed up for the site’s services compared to Xbox One gamers.

Granted the PS4 did managed to outsell the Xbox One, with 3.4 million units sold versus 2.4 million, but the disparity should not be that much. In fact even the website’s CEO, Jax Smith, thought it was weird where he told the folks at Buzzfeed, “Simply put, the Xbox One is a gateway for porn of the future. The PS4 is pretty, but Xbox One allows for more seamless integration and a more interactive experience.” We’re not sure why there is such a huge disparity, with some speculating that maybe the Kinect’s camera could be a deterrent, but as far as tastes in adult movies are concerned, the top five picks of PS4 and Xbox One gamers are pretty similar. Why do you guys think that is?

Study Finds That 47% Of Adults Surveyed Were Interested In Wearable Electronics

Study Finds That 47% Of Adults Surveyed Were Interested In Wearable ElectronicsSmartwatches are without doubt starting to become the “in” thing these days, but whether this is a fad or a technology that’s here to stay remains unknown, but this has not stopped manufacturers such as Samsung from releasing their own smartwatch, and with other tech giants such as Apple and Google rumored to have their own wearable gadgets in the works as well. In any case while companies and the media seem to think that smartwatches are the next big thing, what do you consumers have to say about this? Are customers just as eager to hop aboard the bandwagon?

According to a report by Harris Interactive, the results of their survey have shown that a little under half of the 2,600 adults they surveyed in the US had interest in such a device, with 28% expressing a lot of interest in the technology. The survey does not mention smartwatches specifically, but talks about devices that can be worn on the wrist, such as fitness trackers like the Nike FuelBand SE, or the Jawbone UP. Fitness trackers are a bit niche and at the moment there aren’t any smartwatches that really impresses, so perhaps those numbers might see an increase in the future, but what do you guys think?

LG Infographic Shows How Americans Use Their Smartphones

LG Infographic Shows How Americans Use Their SmartphonesWe all use our phones differently and we all have times and places where we might feel it would be inappropriate to use our phones, but given how dependent we are these days on our devices, thanks to social media and the ability to be constantly connected to all sorts of things, can we really be blamed? Well LG has recently released an infographic in which it reveals how Americans use their smartphones. The survey was conducted and saw 1,152 Americans aged 18 or older participating in it.

According to James Fishler, LG USA’s senior VP of marketing, “Smartphones have quickly become the modern day tool that most of us just can’t live without. With major advances in mobile technology in recent years, smartphones have gone beyond their original intent as a primary communication tool to become true life companions for everything from social situations to our most personal moments.” The infographic is rather interesting as it shows stats such as how 48% of those surveyed have no qualms about using it in a place of worship, and that a staggering 77% would use it in while in bed with another person.

It was also found that 36% used their phones to take “selfies” to see how they look like, while 33% have used it to pretend to look busy while alone at a bar or restaurant, and thankfully there are those who are more socially aware as only 28% have used their phones whilst on a date. You can check out the rest of the stats above, but what do you guys think?

Swedish Kids Think Their Parents Are Too Tech-Obsessed

Swedish Kids Think Their Parents Are Too Tech ObsessedIf there’s one thing parents love to nag their kids about, it would be how they spend too much time playing video games, chatting on their computers, playing with their phones or have their noses buried in a tablet, but over in Sweden it would seem that is the opposite case. Children are complaining that their parents are a little too tech-obsessed and are spending more time than they would like on their gadgets. This is according to a study conducted where it was found that 33% of Swedish parents admitted that their use of their phone and/tablet was a sore point with their kids.

More alarmingly, it was found that 20% of those surveyed admitted that they have lost their kid, for a moment, simply because they were spending too much time on their phones. Speaking to The Guardian, one Swedish pediatrician states that this could affect children growing up. “Of course it will affect their emotional development . . . [Also] I encourage parents to use language during their daily activities, and give their children new words all the time. If parents are more interested in using their mobile phones, I think it will have a bad effect on the language development of their children.” However not all pediatricians agree, saying that distracted parents will always be a thing, but what do you guys think? Is it a little ironic that parents are more tech-obsessed than their kids?

Windows Phone 8 Considered Least Usable, According To Survey

Windows Phone 8 Considered Least Usable, According To SurveyWhen it comes to smartphone operating systems, it really boils down to personal preference, and of course usability also is taken into account. For the more tech savvy user, figuring out how to navigate a new operating system is not too difficult, but for the layman who might not be as tech savvy, this could pose a problem and in a survey conducted by Pfeiffer Consulting, it was found that in terms of usability, Windows Phone 8 scored the lowest, with iOS 7 taking the number one spot which is surprising given that the redesign with the new colors and icons might have been a little jarring for existing users.

In any case according to their report, “The truth is that under the slick veneer of swivelling tiles is an operating system that is challenging to use. One can feel trapped in the rigid user interface that leaves no room for customization, and user interface in general is not conceived to deal efficiently with the dozens and dozens of apps smartphone users want.” What do you guys think? Do you agree with Pfeiffer Consulting’s findings of the Windows Phone 8 operating system? Interestingly enough their study has found Samsung’s version of Android to be the third most usable, strange given that a lot of people dislike the TouchWiz UI to begin with.

61% Of Brits Agree That Video Games Contributes To Violence

61% Of Brits Agree That Video Games Contributes To ViolenceThe debate as to whether videos games leads to violence is never-ending as there are some who believe that it does, and there are those who believe that it doesn’t. Either way in a recent YouGov survey conducted, it was found that 61% of Brits who were surveyed agreed that violence in video games does lead to violence in real-life. They were asked to agree or disagree with the statement, “video games can be a cause of real-world violence and aggression.”

However it was found that it was typically the older generation who agreed that there was a link between violent video games and violent behavior. 42% of 18-24 years old polled agreed there was a link, 48% for 25-39 year olds, 61% for 40-59 year olds, and 79% for those aged 60 and older. Interestingly enough 57% of Brits found that video games were a useful tool and acted as an outlet for their frustration and aggressions, meaning that the remainder 43% think otherwise. This is a highly sensitive topic since there are always two sides to everything, but what do you guys think about the survey? Is there a reason why the older generation thinks there is a link?

Pew survey: 21 percent of US cellphone owners get online mostly through their phones

Pew study finds that 34 percent of Americans primarily use their phones to hop online

There have been signs that Americans are leaning more and more on the smartphone as a primary internet device, and nowhere is that clearer than the latest edition of Pew’s Cell Internet Use survey. The research group found that 21 percent of American cellphone owners now get online chiefly through their handset, up from 17 percent last year. Offline users, meanwhile, have been reduced to a minority — 63 percent of US cell owners have hopped on the internet from their phones at some point. The PC isn’t going away anytime soon, but it’s clear that the traditional computer is just one internet client among many.
