Nokia Rise Could Be T-Mobile’s Lumia 530 [Rumor]

Nokia Rise Could Be T Mobiles Lumia 530 [Rumor]Is Nokia working on a successor to the Lumia 520? Presumably that is the case, unless they were planning on having the low-end market dominated by phones like the Moto G and the Moto E. That being said, it was just last week that we caught wind that Nokia could be working on a successor to the Lumia 520 in the form of the Lumia 530.

Now according to a post by @evleaks, word on the street has it that the handset could be making its way stateside and onto T-Mobile’s network where it could be known as the Nokia Rise. We’re not sure if the Nokia Rise name is a codename or if it will be the name of the handset when it launches.

After all with devices like the Nokia Lumia Icon, we don’t see the handset couldn’t be known as the Nokia Rise. Unfortunately @evleaks did not mention as to when we might be able to look forward to the handset, but with information about the device starting to leak on a more frequent basis, perhaps we won’t have to wait too long to find out more.

Based on the specs of the handset that we saw in benchmarks, the Lumia 530 is expected to pack an 800×480 display. It will also come with an Adreno 305 GPU. It’s not much to go on right now, but hopefully more will be revealed in the near future, so check back with us for updates then.

T-Mobile is closing out its three-day spree of announcements with a pretty awesome-sounding perk—abo

T-Mobile is closing out its three-day spree of announcements with a pretty awesome-sounding perk—abolishing overage charges across the board. Of course, T-Mobile has yet to explain what the policy will be replaced with, so whether or not this is actually a better deal remains to be seen.

T-Mobile Abolishes Consumer Overages

T Mobile Abolishes Consumer OveragesT-Mobile continues to push for change in the wireless provider industry by abolishing consumer overages – and T-Mobile CEO John Legere has called on consumers to urge the likes of AT&T, Verizon and Sprint to bring the age of overages to an end. Over 20 million folks in the US were slapped with punitive overage charges last year alone, with penalties from three of the largest US carriers bringing home more than $1 billion annually from overage charges alone.

Legere shared, “Today I’m laying down a challenge to AT&T, Verizon and Sprint to join T-Mobile in ending these outrageous overage penalties for all consumers – because it’s the right thing to do. Overage fees are flat out wrong. Agree with me? Join me in putting this challenge to all the major national carriers by signing my petition on Change.org. Right here. Take one minute to be a part of this consumer movement.”

T-Mobile began to phase out overage charges last year with the launch of Simple Choice, where that also saw the abolishment of annual service contracts. Legere continued, “Charging overage fees is a greedy, predatory practice that needs to go. Starting in May for bills arriving in June – regardless of whether you’re on Simple Choice, Simple Starter or an older plan, we’re abolishing overages for good. Period.”

Do you like what T-Mobile is doing, and will their call have an impact on the other three major mobile carriers and the way they do business? [Press Release]

T-Mobile CEO Reveals Gold Samsung Galaxy S5

T Mobile CEO Reveals Gold Samsung Galaxy S5It was just yesterday that T-Mobile CEO John Legere showed the world the existence of a 24kt gold-plated HTC One (M8), announcing to the world that it exists via Twitter. What of the Galaxy S5, does it come in a shade of gold? It seems that Samsung were the ones behind this generous move of giving Legere his very own golden Samsung Galaxy S5 – although I am quite sure that other CEOs in other industries would far prefer a golden handshake as opposed to a golden handset, considering the vast difference in the monetary value.

The photo that Legere tweeted certainly showed off the Samsung Galaxy S5 in all of its golden glory, being shiny and all that. I do wonder whether it picks up fingerprints all too easily, and would it be recommended that you carry around an extra pack of tissues or a hanky to make sure that your gold Galaxy S5 remains in pristine condition all the time.

So far, we have not heard from Samsung concerning any actual gold versions of the Samsung Galaxy S5 rolling out in the future, but considering how the gold version of the HTC One (M8) exists, this ought to be produced in extremely limited quantities, if ever. After all, the asking price for the gold HTC One (M7) stood at £2,750 ($4,600 thereabouts), which would clearly put it out of reach for the average consumer.

Nokia Monarch Could Be T-Mobile’s Lumia 635

Nokia Monarch Could Be T Mobiles Lumia 635According to the rumors we heard last month, Nokia was reportedly working on a device codenamed “Monarch”. We weren’t sure what handset the codename belonged to at that point in time, but thanks to a recent post by the ever-reliable @evleaks, it seems that the Nokia Monarch could in reality be the Nokia Lumia 635 that will be making its way onto T-Mobile’s network.

The Nokia Lumia 635 was announced earlier this month during Microsoft’s BUILD conference and has been announced for T-Mobile, so we guess the mystery has been solved as to what the Monarch is. We guess in some way we’re a little disappointed that this isn’t a brand new Nokia device that we haven’t heard of, but we can’t say we’re too surprised. (more…)

T-Mobile Offering BlackBerry Users $200 To “Upgrade” To Samsung

T Mobile Offering BlackBerry Users $200 To Upgrade To SamsungWe’re sure you might have heard by now that BlackBerry and T-Mobile have recently announced that their licensing deal would be coming to an end, and that the deal will not be renewed. Given T-Mobile’s recent tactics which appear to target BlackBerry customers, it’s safe to say that the relationship between both companies aren’t exactly what it used to be.

However it seems that T-Mobile is not done with BlackBerry just yet. The carrier has recently announced a new deal targeting BlackBerry users where they are offering customers a $200 gift card if they were willing to buy a new Samsung smartphone, which presumably would take the place of their BlackBerry device. T-Mobile Announces Operation Tablet Freedom

T Mobile Announces Operation Tablet FreedomThe folks over at T-Mobile continue their range of new initiatives to help connect to potential customers, first with the $40 “Simple Starter” plan and now with the announcement of “Operation Tablet Freedom.” Operation Tablet Freedom has nothing to do with delivering tablets to our brave men and women on the battlefield, but rather, as how CEO John Legere described it to be “a full-on assault against the restrictions and pain points imposed by the greedy carriers.”

In Operation Tablet Freedom, this new tablet plan would put on offer 1GB of free data for tablets that are in the possession of T-Mobile’s customers who happen to also own a calling plan. This 1GB of free data will be on top of the free 200MB tablet data that was offered by the mobile carrier to the entire range of tablets, which means that T-Mobile’s voice subscribers will be able to enjoy up to 1.2GB of storage space.

Other than that, T-Mobile will also place LTE-enabled tablets on sale at the same price point as that of the Wi-Fi only version of the same device. It does not make much sense, but who’s complaining? I suppose it is a matter of taking advantage of this deal while stocks last. This translates to forking out $499 for a 16GB LTE enabled Apple iPad Air instead of $629 with T-Mobile, making it quite a standout deal. [Press Release]

Press Render Of LG L90 For T-Mobile Leaked

Press Render Of LG L90 For T Mobile LeakedEarlier this year ahead of MWC 2014, LG announced a slew of new handsets and the LG L90 was one of them. Now just last week we learnt that the LG L90 could be making its way onto T-Mobile’s network and now thanks to a recent photo by the ever-reliable @evleaks, the press rendering of T-Mobile’s version of the LG L90 has since been leaked online.

To be fair there’s nothing about the handset that would indicate its arrival for T-Mobile, but @evleaks has been pretty reliable and spot on with his leaks in the past, so perhaps there might be some truth to his claims. There’s no word on when the LG L90 will be released although the rumors have it pegged for the 23rd of April.

For those who might have missed our MWC 2014 coverage, here’s a recap of the LG L90 for you guys. The handset will pack a 4.7-inch 540×960 display. It’s not the highest resolution you might expect but it will get the job done, not to mention it does help to cut down the cost of the device which in turn could result in an affordable handset.

The LG L90 will also be powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage, and a microSD card slot for those who might need additional storage. It will also come with an 8MP rear-facing camera, a 1.3MP front-facing camera, and a 2,540mAh battery and will also come with LG’s Knock Code security feature.

There are some parts of the world in which the LG L90 has already been launched where it has since been priced around $317 unlocked, so we can assume that when it does arrive on T-Mobile, it should be pretty cheap/affordable as well.

T-Mobile’s “Simple Starter Plan” Lowers Entry Cost

T Mobiles Simple Starter Plan Lowers Entry CostT-Mobile has just launched its all new “Simple Starter Plan” that intends to deliver a zero-risk, no annual contract plan for those who are extremely careful about where every single hard earned penny of theirs go to. This will further extend T-Mobile’s Un-carrier consumer revolution across a slew of new fronts, where the all-new Simple Starter value plan was specially designed in order to have it deliver an alternative to the data overage-intensive entry-level plans that other US mobile carriers offer. This new plan would mean T-Mobile happens to be the sole major U.S. carrier that will offer a single line of 4G LTE data for a mere $40 monthly.

Kicking off in a few days’ time this April 12th, the Simple Starter plan at a mere $40 per month will be able to offer unlimited talk and text and up to 500MB 4G LTE data and tethering. The whole idea behind the Simple Starter plan is to target value-conscious wireless customers and small businesses who require the predictability of T-Mobile’s network without breaking the bank, and there will also be no data overages to worry about, too. It does seem as though the consumer is going to be the biggest winner in the long run with all of this competition going on among mobile carriers. [Press Release]
