Today T-Mobile isn’t crashing any parties
We first heard about this Android powered QWERTY slider smartphone back in December. It was rumored that T-Mobile is going to launch this device soon, which is basically a mid-range device geared towards people who prefer physical keyboards. Rumor has it that T-Mobile is finally going to launch this smartphone on January 22nd, its expected to go on sale with the Optimus F3Q moniker. The smartphone is believed to have a 4-inch 480×800 pixel resolution display, 1.2GHz dualcore processor, 4GB onboard storage, 5 megapixel rear and 1 megapixel front camera with microSD and 4G LTE support. It is said to come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean pre-installed.
It appears that the LG Optimus F3Q is not the only smartphone that T-Mobile is going to be launching come January 22nd. There were rumors floating recently that Sony is going to launch a variant of the Xperia Z1 that would be exclusive to T-Mobile. It has indeed done that, Sony unveiled the Magenta exclusive Z1S at CES 2014. This smartphone touts Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quadcore processor, 5-inch 1080p Triluminos display and a 20.7 megapixel camera. Online pre-sale will be scheduled for January 13th, the Xperia Z1S costs $528 off contract and $22 per month for 24 months on T-Mobile’s equipment installment plan. No pricing information is available for the Optimus F3Q as yet.

T-Mobile has been making waves this week, not only because its CEO crashed an AT&T party and got escorted out, but because its set to make another “uncarrier” announcement very soon. The uncarrier initiative was kicked off last year, with the carrier taking a number of bold steps such as eliminating traditional two year service contracts and allowing subscribers to upgrade devices without having to wait for a painfully long time. While the carrier hasn’t dropped any major hints as to what the next uncarrier announcement is going to be about, an ad has leaked online which hints in order to steal subscribers from its rivals, T-Mobile is going to pay early termination fees of an entire family just so they can get out of their contracts with their existing carrier and switch to Magenta.
The carrier’s CEO John Legere is scheduled to make a keynote speech later today at CES 2014 in Las Vegas, so its only a matter of time before the latest uncarrier move is made public. According to the ad, T-Mobile will pay early termination fee for new subscribers, up to $350 per family when they bring in at least three lines. The move is a bit similar to what AT&T announced recently, it is offering people who switch from T-Mobile up to $450. Legere called this move desperate. [Image via Droid-life]

In what is certainly the most enticing phone we’ve seen at CES thus far, Sony’s Xperia Z1S is heading to the U.S. as a T-Mobile exclusive, and it looks like an absolute powerhouse (as does its little buddy, for those who like smaller phones). Where to begin?
Rumors started circulating last year that Verizon Wireless was looking to offload its unused A-block spectrum, and T-Mobile U.S. was said to be interested. Big Red also said that it was open to spectrum swapping, which worked out in T-Mobile’s favor. It acquired the spectrum back in 2008 for $2.6 billion through a government auction. T-Mobile has officially announced today that it is purchasing 700MHz A-block spectrum from Verizon Wireless for $2.365 billion in cash and will be sweetening the deal with $950 million worth of AWS and PCS spectrum licenses.
When combined with T-Mobile’s existing A-block spectrum holdings in Boston, this deal gives the country’s fourth largest mobile carrier important low-band spectrum in 9 of the top 10 and 21 of the top 30 markets in the U.S. Both carriers expect to close the deal in mid-2014 after regulatory approval has been granted by the Department of Justice and the Federal Communications Commission. The deal isn’t expected to hit any roadblocks when its being scrutinized by the regulators. Not only does Verizon get the cash, it will be able to use T-Mobile’s AWS airwaves to improve its service in various congested markets, such as New York. Seems like a win-win for both parties involved, which customers should experience improved service and coverage.

Earlier we had reported that AT&T had announced a new program in which they are willing to offer T-Mobile customers up to $450 worth of credit to make the switch and join AT&T’s network. Naturally T-Mobile is none too pleased about this, with the company’s CEO, John Legere, taking to Twitter where he wrote, “#Randall – you gave us cash & spectrum AND we took your customers with #Uncarrier moves, do you really think you can buy them back?” Legere thinks that AT&T’s new offering is due to its poor performance during the holiday season which has left the company sitting in an uncomfortable position.
Legere also teased that the carrier had something big to announce at CES 2014 which is taking place next week, where he seemed confident that whatever it is the company had planned, it would absolutely destroy the competition. According to the executive statement released by T-Mobile, “This is a desperate move by AT&T on the heels of what must have been a terrible Q4 and holiday for them. I’m flattered that we have made them so uncomfortable! We used AT&T’s cash to build a far superior network and added Un-carrier moves to take tons of their customers – and now they want to bribe them back! Consumers won’t be fooled…nothing has changed; customers will still feel the same old pain that AT&T is famous for. Just wait until CES to hear what pain points we are eliminating next. The competition is going to be toast!”
It will be interesting to see what T-Mobile has planned and since we will be live at CES 2014, hopefully we will learn more then, so be sure to check back with us during the exhibition for all the details!

AT&T and T-Mobile once had a pretty close relationship, with AT&T almost buying out T-Mobile, and they would have succeeded had it not been for intervention and objection by multiple parties who were afraid the merger would create a monopoly in the carrier industry. Now the relationship has since soured with both sides taking shots at one another, and in the latest attempt by AT&T, it seems that if they can’t have T-Mobile for themselves, they will at least try to steal the carrier’s customers by luring them over with credit worth up to $450 in value!
Yup that’s right, AT&T is willing to pay T-Mobile customers to make the switch onto the carrier’s network. For starters AT&T will allow customers to trade-in T-Mobile smartphones and get up to $250 in credit, depending on the value of the phone and its condition. They will also be giving customers an additional $200 in credit if they are willing to switch from T-Mobile’s plan and sign up for AT&T’s Next plan, bringing up the total of maximum credit a customer can get up to a whopping $450! That’s a lot of money and would potentially allow a customer to get a new phone and enjoy the next few months of service for next to nothing.
If that sounds enticing to you, hit up AT&T’s website for the details.

The LG G Flex is the South Korean company’s attempt at creating a smartphone with a curved display, taking on the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Round in the process. We had heard that LG planned to release the handset globally and that as far as a stateside launch was concerned, the device was scheduled to be launched on three of the major carriers, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint. Unfortunately until today we have not heard word about a possible release date, but thanks to the ever-reliable @evleaks, the press rendering of both AT&T and T-Mobile’s version of the handset has made its way online.
However given that the LG G Flex will look exactly the same, there’s no telling which model pictured above is for which carrier, save for the carrier’s name sighted in either model, then again we don’t expect LG to be making drastic design changes for every single carrier, so we guess that’s to be expected. In any case @evleaks has been pretty spot on in terms of his leaks so for all we know this could be a possibility. Like we said availability of the handset has not yet been made available, nor pricing, but hopefully we will hear more from LG soon, hopefully at CES 2014, so be sure to check back with us then for the details!
