Analyst Believes iPhone 5C Might Pull In More Customers For T-Mobile

Analyst Believes iPhone 5C Might Pull In More Customers For T Mobile

Apple is going to take the stage tomorrow and unveil what it is expected to, two new iPhones. The iPhone 5S is going to be the successor to iPhone 5, Apple’s existing flagship smartphone. For the first time ever, the company is expected to launch a second iPhone alongside the flagship model. It is called the iPhone 5C, a budget smartphone similar to iPhone 5 and fashioned out of plastic to keep costs down. Cost will be a major factor on which the success and failure of this smartphone will depend upon, an analyst believes that the low cost might encourage customers to pay upfront instead of opting for a two year contract.

T-Mobile launches its Uncarrier initiative earlier this year, it doesn’t require customers to sign a two year contract now in order to receive a subsidy on a mobile device. Roger Entner, an analyst at Recon Analytics, believes that with iPhone 5C, Magenta is “in the right place at the right time with the right product.” Entner predicts that the budget iPhone could make a big difference for T-Mobile. However, since it has dropped contract plans, customers have the option of bringing their own device to the network. A factory unlocked iPhone 5 costs $649.99, the iPhone 5S might retain this price point. Most people opt for carrier contracts because they’d prefer a subsidy on this amount, so while T-Mobile’s contract free plans might be attractive for budget iPhone owners, people who opt for the flagship model just might stick with contracts.

Deutsche Telekom’s LTE Connected Car delivers streaming media with complete control (hands-on video)

Deutsche Telekom's LTE Connected Car delivers streaming media with complete control handson video

Connected car concepts are nothing new, but a compelling one stands out among the crowd of half-baked ideas. Here at IFA, Deutsche Telekom’s demo is one such example, thanks to its simple but intuitive execution and downright usefulness. A very friendly Telekom rep let us step inside to check out the concept from a child’s perspective.

Set up in a BMW (naturally), the system utilizes an LTE hotspot, a few backseat-mounted iPads and BMW’s ConnectedDrive service to provide entertainment on long car trips. Kids sitting in the backseat navigate to their personal profiles on Telekom’s associated app, and from there they can access services such as Videoload, Maxdome (both for renting movies) and Audiobooks. There’s also the option to view real-time trip progress via Google Maps, and kids can even select a webcam mode to see the road from mom or dad’s perspective.

    T-Mobile BlackBerry Q10 And Z10 Updates Offer Wi-Fi Calling

T Mobile BlackBerry Q10 And Z10 Updates Offer Wi Fi CallingIf you happen to be in possession of a BlackBerry 10-powered smartphone on T-Mobile, then you might be pleased to keep a keen eye out for a new software update that T-Mobile has just revealed. This particular update to the BlackBerry Q10 and BlackBerry Z10 is said to deliver Wi-Fi Calling capability in addition to improved performance as well as a bunch of other bug fixes. Wi-Fi calling is one feature that many people have taken advantage of in the past, where one is able to send and receive calls and messages over a Wi-Fi connection, making it an ideal way of saving your costs whenever you are at home or at the office, connected to a corresponding Wi-Fi network of decent speed.

This new update would be available over the air (OTA), where you are able to make a request for it by heading into Settings > Software Updates > Update. Alternatively, you are also able to perform the update installation via BlackBerry Link on your computer. Do bear in mind that the latest update version would bump your BlackBerry 10 OS to 10.1.0.4780 on your BlackBerry Q10 or BlackBerry Z10. For those of you who have already applied the update, how do you find it so far?

    LG G2

At last, the LG G2 has a US release date: T-Mobile is shipping the Android flagship to stores on September 25th, with online availability starting September 18th. The 5.2-inch smartphone will require a $100 initial spend on a downpayment plan, and costs $630 outright. Both black and white colors will be available, although you’ll have to order the white version online; thankfully, you can pre-order either model today. Too expensive for your tastes? You can buy the newly available Optimus F6 instead. The 4.5-inch budget smartphone is now selling online for $50 on a downpayment plan, or $290 at full price. Those who’d prefer a walk-in purchase can pick up the F6 at a retail store on September 11th.

Update: Verizon has since provided its G2 launch details, and it’s beating T-Mobile to the punch. It will release its logo-laden variant on September 12th for $200 on a two-year contract.

Update 2: AT&T has chimed in as well: it will sell the G2 on September 13th for the same $200 on contract as Verizon, or $27 per month on Next.

HTC 8X On T-Mobile Receiving Windows Phone GDR2 Update

HTC 8X On T Mobile Receiving Windows Phone GDR2 UpdateEarlier this year it was expected that the HTC 8X on T-Mobile’s network would receive the Windows Phone GDR2 update come 22nd of July. Unfortunately the update did not fully materialize and it is possible that due to some complaints of users who did receive the update about how the phone became more unstable, that T-Mobile and HTC went back to the drawing board to clear up the issues before releasing it to the masses. Well the good news is that if you have been waiting for months for the long-overdue update, you’re in luck as T-Mobile and HTC have finally released the GDR2 update.

This is according to information posted on T-Mobile’s support forum which basically confirms the latest OS update as 10327, and its Baseband as 3030.0.33501.531. The update can downloaded OTA but due to its size, it would require users to be connected to a WiFi network. For those who have yet to receive the notification that a new update is available, you can try checking your phone manually but going to Settings > Phone Update to see if there are any updates available. So T-Mobile HTC 8X owners, how’s the latest GDR2 update treating you?

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 And Galaxy Gear Will Arrive On T-Mobile

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 And Galaxy Gear Will Arrive On T Mobile

Earlier today during IFA 2013 in Berlin, Samsung unveiled both the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Gear smart watch (be sure to check out our hands-on review for a brief idea of what to expect), and the good news is that if you were looking forward to getting your hands on either device, T-Mobile has announced that they will be offering both devices on their network. Unfortunately T-Mobile did not mention as to when either device will be made available or how much it would cost, but the carrier has launched a pre-registration pagewhere those interested can leave their particulars and be notified when more details are made available.

However with both the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Gear pegged for a release on the 25th of September and is expected to be shipped to more than 140 countries around the world, we would expect T-Mobile to make either device available around that time frame as well, if not slightly later. The Galaxy Note 3 is the successor to the Galaxy Note 2 from 2012 and sports upgraded hardware and a redesign. The Galaxy Gear is Samsung’s smart watch effort although we’re thinking Qualcomm’s Toq could give it some competition.
