Sony ships LTE-equipped Xperia Tablet Z to the US for $629

Sony brings Xperia Tablet Z with LTE to the US

Sony may be focused on Europe right now, but it still has some news for Americans: the company just launched a variant of the Xperia Tablet Z with unlocked LTE for both AT&T and T-Mobile. The Android device doesn’t offer any other advantages over the 16GB WiFi version, although that’s not necessarily a bad thing in our books. If you’re interested in the 4G model, you can buy it today for $629.

T-Mobile Rumored To Be Removing BlackBerry 10 Devices From Stores Due To Poor Sales

T Mobile Rumored To Be Removing BlackBerry 10 Devices From Stores Due To Poor SalesBlackBerry is not doing as well as they had anticipated, with reports of the BlackBerry Q10 sales being labeled as “dismal”, and it looks like even carriers aren’t giving BlackBerry a break either. According to rumors, word has it that T-Mobile is looking to remove BlackBerry 10 smartphones from their stores due to the devices not doing well in terms of sales. This comes from a CrackBerry forum post in which an alleged T-Mobile employee was quoted as saying, “My manager told me the other day that all blackberry 10 devices will now be only available via direct ship. I work at a corporate store in Cleveland I have to go check the Email but I’m not sure if this has just affected NorthEast Ohio.”

Other alleged T-Mobile employees have “confirmed” the poster’s message, claiming that other T-Mobile stores in the US have already begun removing stock from their stores. Given that T-Mobile was one of the first supporters of the BlackBerry 10 platform, we guess the poor sales of BlackBerry 10 devices did not make good business sense in the end. Is this the beginning of the downfall of BlackBerry’s new operating system? Or will we see it pick up again in the future?

Sony Extends Carrier Billing Courtesy To T-Mobile Subscribers

Sony Extends Carrier Billing Courtesy To T Mobile Subscribers

There’s an alternative if you don’t want to use a credit card with Sony Entertainment Network or the PlayStation Store, the alternative is carrier billing. Sony already offers this alternative to AT&T subscribers in the U.S., they’ve now extended the courtesy to T-Mobile subscribers as well. Carrier billing can’t unfortunately be used with the PlayStation Vita, but it will be available on PlayStation 4 when it launches later this year in November.

Sony works with Boku, a mobile payments company, to make the process easier for it’s users, who can download content such as games, themes, add-ons, TV shows and movies from the PlayStation Store and Sony Entertainment Network. To purchase through carrier billing, customers can choose “mobile” as the payment option on PlayStation Store or Sony Entertainment Network and enter their mobile number. To confirm the transaction, they’ll have to respond to a SMS, the charge will appear in the next mobile phone bill. The ease of use carrier billing offers is quite obvious. It also serves as a great alternative for those who are now uncomfortable with using their credit cards particularly with Sony’s services online, given how much information was leaked when Sony’s various networks were brutally attacked by hackers.

Sony Entertainment Network and PlayStation Store add carrier billing for AT&T and T-Mobile

DNP PlayStation Video Unlimited updated to include mobile billing option

If you’re stateside and still leery about using your credit card with Sony following 2011’s hacking scandal, the company has a new way for you to pay: your cellphone bill. Following its UK debut, Boku carrier payment processing is on our shores now, allowing you to top-up your virtual wallet via, specifically, an AT&T or T-Mobile account. Oddly enough, these funds can only be used for purchases on the Sony Entertainment Network website and the PS3’s PlayStation Store — not the PS Vita’s. We emailed to clarify this, but Sony only told us that it has “no plans to announce at this time.”

T-Mobile Accuses AT&T’s Aio Of Using Magenta For Their Logo

T Mobile Accuses AT&Ts Aio Of Using Magenta For Their LogoWhile it was just a couple of years ago that both AT&T and T-Mobile were eager to merge, it looks like whatever love they had for each other has since been lost as T-Mobile has recently filed a lawsuit against AT&T, alleging that AT&T “stole” the magenta color for the logo of the carrier’s Aio prepaid service. According to the lawsuit, T-Mobile claims that AT&T did it on purpose to confuse and potentially steal customers away from T-Mobile using a shade of magenta that T-Mobile had actually trademarked. T-Mobile believes that by looking at just the color alone, customers would associate Aio with T-Mobile, when in reality it belongs to AT&T.

In fact T-Mobile’s CEO, John Legere, has gone on Twitter to poke fun at AT&T’s choice of color. However according to an Aio spokeswoman, they are denying any infringement claims as the color used by the company is different from T-Mobile, adding that “T-Mobile needs an art lesson”, and that Aio “doesn’t do magenta”. What do you guys think? Is T-Mobile being unreasonable, or have you or anyone you know actually got confused to who Aio belongs to when you look at their logo? Sound off in the comments below!

T-Mobile Blocks Employee Vacations For 20th September Possibly Due To iPhone Release

T Mobile Blocks Employee Vacations For 20th September Possibly Due To iPhone ReleaseOn the 10th of September, it has been rumored that Apple will be holding an event of their own in which they will announce both the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. Assuming that is true, when can we expect either device to be released to the masses? Apple has typically been pretty efficient when it comes to release dates, usually releasing a couple of weeks from the announcement, and sometimes on the day itself. We had previously heard that the 20th of September is a possible release date and it seems that the date could be true.

This is according to TmoNews who is reporting that T-Mobile stores in the US are blacking out Friday, the 20thof September, until the 22nd of September (Sunday) to prevent employees from taking vacations. Presumably this is to ensure that the carrier will have enough staff on hand to handle incoming customers who might be looking to get their hands on the new iPhones. Of course since Apple has yet to announce anything official yet, do take it with a grain of salt for now, but if you’re looking to pick up either device, perhaps the 20th of September could be a date worth marking down on your calendar.

T-Mobile sues AT&T over Aio Wireless’ logo, goes magenta with rage

DNP TMobile sues AT&T over the color of Aio Wireless' logo

It’s no secret that T-Mobile feels very strongly about a specific shade of magenta. Long time readers will remember when Deutsche Telekom famously came after your favorite tech site (spoiler alert: that would be Engadget) over the particular hue we’d chosen for our mobile section. T-Mo has evidently been jonesing for another chromatically inspired legal battle, as it just sued AT&T over the color of Aio Wireless’ logo. While DT does technically have a German trademark on a single shade of magenta (RAL 4010), to anyone with eyes, it’s evident that T-Mobile and Aio employ two completely different colors. Big Magenta’s CEO John Legere weighed in on Twitter when he said, “Here is the Crayon box that @ATT must have been using :),” alongside a picture of RAL 4010-hued crayons (available at the source link below). Nobody wants to show up to prom in the same dress as someone else, but T-Mo appears to be grasping at straws. Magenta straws.

Moto X To Arrive On T-Mobile In September

Moto X To Arrive On T Mobile In SeptemberIf you were looking to get your hands on Motorola’s brand new Moto X smartphone, as it stands the handset is currently available via AT&T and will be arriving on Verizon come 29th of August, so what about the other carriers? Over the weekend it was suggested that the handset could be announced for other carriers “in days”, and sure enough T-Mobile’s CEO, John Legere, has announced via his Twitter account that the Moto X will be arriving on T-Mobile’s network in September. Unfortunately unlike Verizon’s tweet which had an affirmative date, T-Mobile’s September release is pretty vague.

Could we be looking at an early September release? Or could we instead have to wait until the end of the month? In any case since AT&T’s exclusive deal with Motorola is in place, there is a good chance that T-Mobile’s Moto X will not have access to the Moto Maker feature that allows customization, but rather T-Mobile customers might only have black or white to choose from. In any case hopefully T-Mobile will be able to provide a release date in the near future, so stay tuned for more updates!

T-Mobile brings Simple Choice plans to business customers on August 26th

TMobile brings Simple Choice plans to business customers on August 26th

Coming August 26th, T-Mobile will make its Simple Choice plans available to business customers, effectively severing the tie between the cost of devices and mobile service. The pricing structure is geared to customers with six lines or more, with rates that start at $20 per line for unlimited talk, text and 500MB of overage-free / throttled data. Keeping in line with its approach on the consumer end, business users can then pay for additional data, starting at $30 for an extra 2GB and going up to $50 for unlimited 4G data (and 2.5GB of limited hotspot use). T-Mobile is hoping its new approach will be popular with the BYOD crowd, but it’s also performing a balancing act with a subsidized Simple Choice Classic plan that runs an additional $20 per month. Meanwhile, companies with less than six lines can tap into T-Mobile’s small business plans, which parallels the pricing that individuals pay.

Isis Ready SIM Cards Arriving At T-Mobile Stores

Isis Ready SIM Cards Arriving At T Mobile Stores

Three of the biggest U.S. carriers, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile, are backing a mobile payments solution called Isis. The solution is currently being tested at more than 4,000 locations in Austin and Salt Lake City. The company said last month that national rollout of the service will begin this year. T-Mobile stores are now receiving Isis ready SIM cards ahead of the nationwide rollout.

Some of these SIM cards are said to be pre-packaged with the Samsung Galaxy S4. Isis is currently on track for nationwide launch later this year, out of the top 100 retailers 25 have already jumped on-board. Isis will work with American Express, Chase Freedom and Capital One credit cards. The app will store credit cards, loyalty cards and offers. NFC technology plays a pivotal role, users will be able to make payments at terminals and registers by simply swiping their phones. The Isis app is only available for Android right now, seeing as how there’s no iPhone out yet that comes with NFC built-in. Isis said recently that iPhone support is coming soon. The next generation iPhone that Apple is expected to release next month is said to have NFC technology, but there’s no confirmation about that just yet. [Image via TmoNews]
