T-Mobile Prism 2 Announced

T Mobile Prism 2 AnnouncedT-Mobile did offer up the Huawei-manufactured Prism in the past, in particular May last year, where that particular handset was described to be a highly affordable Android-powered smartphone, retailing for a mere $19.99 on contract, of course. Well, it seems that there is a sequel in the works – good stuff normally get sequels, and the Huawei Prism is no different, where it has been dubbed the Prism 2 alongside model number U8686.

What you see above are leaked images of the Huawei Prism 2, where it will come with a paltry screen resolution of 320 × 480 pixels to keep it in line with the rest of the entry-level perception, running on a 1GHz processor alongside Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean in tow. What you see here is made possible thanks to the Internet’s favorite Twitter news source for leaks, @evleaks. It definitely is nice to see a low-end smartphone with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in tow, considering how most of the other cheap devices run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich instead right out of the box.

Samsung Galaxy S III passes FCC with support for T-Mobile LTE

Samsung Galaxy S III passes FCC with support for TMobile LTE

Ever since T-Mobile promised to introduce a Galaxy S III that supports LTE over Band 4 (1700MHz AWS), we’ve been scouring FCC docs for signs of its rumored March 27th arrival. Well folks, that day’s now come, as Samsung SGH-T999L has just cleared the regulatory body, complete with readiness for LTE Band 4. The phone’s model number pegs it as a natural successor for T-Mobile’s original Galaxy S III (SGH-T999), and it also carries telltale support for HSPA+ over the 1900, 1700 and 850MHz bands. Curiously, the handset also supports LTE Band 17, which is common amongst phones for AT&T — at the very least, this should add value for those willing to skirt those silly unlocking laws. Now, the only question that remains is how quickly this phone will become yesterday’s news.

Huawei Prism II For T-Mobile Spotted

Huawei Prism II For T Mobile SpottedFor those shopping for an affordable Android smartphone device, Huawei might have an answer for you in the form of the Prism II. Thanks to the folks at @evleaks, press renderings of the device have been leaked. No word on when exactly the Huawei Prism will make its way onto T-Mobile’s network, but if the press renderings have been leaked, we expect that it shouldn’t be too long before we hear an official announcement or hear about its availability. As far as it specs are concerned, there really isn’t nothing to shout about.

The Huawei Prism II will feature a 1GHz processor with a HVGA 480×320 display with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean running the show, which to be honest is kind of the highlight of the device. This is the follow up to the original Huawei Prism which was released back in May of 2012 for $20 on contract, so we expect the Prism II should find itself priced around that point as well.

T-Mobile May Become A Contract-less Network This Month

T Mobile May Become A Contract less Network This Month

T-Mobile may have received a lashing from AT&T in regards to their network, but the company may be one upping them as they’re expected to announce their contract-less system some time this month.

According to TMoNews, T-Mobile could be planning to announce its new contract-less plans as early as March 4 to then go into affect on March 24. The “uncarrier” move will introduce a number of changes to make transitioning the these new plans a little more bearable for its subscribers. Existing customers will be allowed to finish their current contracts or upgrade to a new device without a new contract, whichever comes first.

Early termination fees will also be eradicated with T-Mobile’s new plans and a new equipment installment plan tier will be introduced that would range between $25 to $30 dollars, which would help its customers not suffer from sticker shock when they learn a phone they should pay only $99 or $199 with a two-year contract should cost them way more in a no-contract world.

AT&T Attacks T-Mobile In Newspaper Ad

AT&T Attacks T Mobile In Newspaper AdGather round, kids, and let me tell you about the days when AT&T and T-Mobile were extremely close to merging. It was back in 2011. Barack Obama was President and 4G LTE service was in its infancy in the U.S.

Ultimately, AT&T decided it didn’t want to buy T-Mobile anymore, to which T-Mobile responded with an ad that attacked AT&T. We guess AT&T held a grudge for several months as today, we’re hearing of a new ad campaign where AT&T takes a few shots at T-Mobile.

A full-page ad was published in a number of big-name newspapers where AT&T comments quite negatively to T-Mobile’s network. “The truth about T-Mobile’s network compared to AT&T,” the ad says, “2x more dropped calls, 2x more failed calls, 50% slower download speeds.”

T-Mobile’s CMO Mike Sievert responded to the ad in a statement to Bloomberg by saying, “Wow. Looks like we struck a chord. AT&T doth protest too much. Glad they’re spending their money to print our name.”

A “doth protest too much” comeback? Oh, man! AT&T, you just got served by none other than the Sievert-man!

T-Mobile USA revenue drops 5.2 percent to $4.9 billion for Q4 2012, customers and income also fall

TMobile revenue drops 10 percent to $41 billion, customers and income down, too

Is it a good thing that T-Mobile’s US operation is in the crosshairs of a MetroPCS merger? We’ll see, but meanwhile the operator again shed revenue, customers and profit in Q4 2012. Total revenue dropped during the quarter to $4.9 billion from $5.2 billion last year, while income was down a whopping 25.1 percent to $1.05 billion year-over-year. Meanwhile the company lost 515,000 branded contract customers compared to 492,000 last quarter, representing a ‘churn’ rate of 2.5 percent in that category, a slight improvement over last year. All that culminated in a rather miserable year for the carrier, which earned $424 million less than in 2011 ($4.9 billion), while showing a total loss of $6.4 billion thanks to depreciation and impairment charges. Meanwhile, parent Deutsche Telecom said recently that MetroPCS would merge with T-Mobile as early as April — which sounds like it can’t come soon enough.

T-Mobile HTC One S Gets Tiny Security Enhancement Update

T Mobile HTC One S Gets Tiny Security Enhancement UpdateThe HTC One S from T-Mobile is not exactly a smartphone that will light up the faces of those around you whenever you pull it out from the pocket. Basically, the HTC One S will be a functional workhorse of a smartphone, and it is nice to see that carrier T-Mobile is not quite through with this device just yet, having announced a minor update that will introduce more security enhancements to the device. Hooray for added security, considering the spate of compromises that we have seen so far.

The update for the HTC One S from T-Mobile will require you to adhere to the standard issue requirements, namely having a stock version of the Android operating system that is unrooted, a minimum amount of 50% battery life and of course, we would recommend you having performed a backup on the HTC One S prior just in case Murphy decides to drop in on the update process. The entire update will weigh in at approximately 49MB, and this OTA (Over The Air) download will be available from now onwards, with the rolling out process completing by February 28th, so fret not if your HTC One S has yet to receive it.

T Mobile Promises FreeDUM With Its Prepaid GoSmart ServiceT-mobile has launched its nationwide prepaid GoSmart mobile service. GoSmart is now available at over 3,000 resellers in the United States.

The service plans are not changing from what was offered at its trials. The $30 plan will continue to be sold with unlimited voice and text messaging but no mobile internet service. The next plan is charged at $35 and includes unlimited voice, and text messages and mobile internet offered at 2G browsing speeds. Lastly the company is offering a $45 plan with 5GB of data offered at 3G browsing speed, along with unlimited voice and text messages. The service claims no hidden charges or caps on their plans and in their tag lines put it as “No DUM caps. No DUM overages ” — you know, “FreeDUM in wireless,”

Customers can buy a SIM kit worth $8 which they can use with their own mobile phone or they have the option to buy Alcatel feature phones or ZTE android phones that are low end.  Customers of GoSmart can also add unlimited international texting to 200 countries for $5 per month and unlimited text to 200 countries and unlimited landline calls for $10 per month.

T-mobile has now joined the ranks of Sprint, Virgin Mobile USA and Straight Talk. This move can have positive effects on competition and might bring even better priced prepaid plans from competitors.
