GoSmart Mobile Launches Nationwide No-Contract Wireless Service for Budget-Conscious Consumers

It is time for FreeDUM in wireless.

GoSmart Mobile today announced the nationwide launch of its no annual contract wireless service for budget-conscious consumers, ending the era of DUM[TM] hidden fees, roaming charges and overly complicated annual contracts. GoSmart, a new brand from T-Mobile USA, offers affordable, no annual contract plans on a reliable nationwide network starting at just $30 per month.

With GoSmart, wireless customers get what they need – great savings and flexibility without the hassle. For example, customers have the choice of purchasing an inexpensive SIM kit to use in their own compatible mobile phone or they can buy a low-priced GoSmart phone. In addition, all GoSmart services are offered without limits. No DUM caps. No DUM overages. Just a very affordable service for calling, texting and Web surfing.

GoSmart is available online at www.GoSmartMobile.com and at thousands of dealer stores across the nation.

“You don’t need food bigger than your face, and you don’t need mobile phone plans that charge you more than you can afford for services you don’t want or need,” said Doug Chartier, senior vice president of marketing for GoSmart. “GoSmart is one of the simplest, most budget-friendly options in wireless, with unlimited plans on a reliable nationwide network starting at $30 per month.”
GoSmart’s launch comes as the no annual contract market continues to grow at a steady pace, fueled by cost-conscious consumers looking to reduce what they spend each year for wireless service. The number of no annual contract customers in the United States is expected to reach 80 million by the end of 2013 and grow an average of 7.4 percent per year until 2016, according to a report from market research firm IDC.[i]

“The influx of data services, coupled with the traditional flexibility and value of no contract plans, has considerably increased consumer interest in the no annual contract wireless market” said John Weber, Associate Research Analyst at IDC. “Customers often look for unlimited service plans on a robust network, while simultaneously limiting monthly wireless expenses. GoSmart represents a viable option for consumers to consider.”

T-Mobile HTC One Announced

T Mobile HTC One AnnouncedYeah, so the HTC One has just been announced, and T-Mobile is first off the blocks among the four major mobile carriers in the US to announce that they will be carrying the new flagship device from HTC. This will be an LTE smartphone, which is the first Android-powered model from T-Mobile, and it will carry along with it the announced HTC BlinkFeed, HTC Zoe and HTC BoomSound innovations, too.

Just what kind of a smartphone will the HTC One be like when it runs on T-Mobile’s 4G data plan? The perfect smartphone, as HTC would want you to believe, especially since the 4G data plan has no annual contract, making it a marriage made in tech heaven. Sorta. Well, I guess we will just have to be patient if we want to find out pricing and availability details of the HTC One over at T-Mobile, so stay tuned! It should definitely reside in the high end side of things, never mind that the hardware specifications do come close in certain areas to the HTC Butterfly.

T-Mobile’s 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot Shows Up In Press

T Mobile’s 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot Shows Up In Press

While rumors of T-Mobile’s 4G LTE HotSpot launching on March 27th are already out there, a picture of T-Mobile Sonic 2.0 Mobile HotSpot LTE has appeared on TMoNews.  The device looks pretty plain, like any hotspot device, with options to see battery life, signal strength etc. The device looks like it can handle 8 connections, evident by an “8” in the image of the device. No indication of price or when it would be available has been given, though the March 27th date seems solid enough.

So when is the 4G LTE network from T-Mobile coming up? We are unsure of the exact date on that as well. T-Mobile’s CTO Neville Ray had announced at CES that T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network would be up and running in Las Vegas in two to three weeks. The two or three weeks passed by a while back , so it should be any day when T-Mobile breaks the news of the 4G LTE network going live. A major point to note is that T-Mobile is the last in the race of major carriers to setup the 4G LTE network, as Verizon, AT&T and Sprint already have them setup.  T-Mobile customers should expect faster speeds once the network is running.

T-Mobile Sonic 2.0 LTE hotspot reportedly poses for a press image

TMobile's Sonic 20 LTE hotspot poses for a press image

We’ve previously had just a smattering of text to hint that T-Mobile might kick off its formal LTE launch with a Sonic 2.0 Mobile Hotspot. Things just got more tangible this weekend through an apparent TmoNews leak. The really-truly-4G pocket router has surfaced in a supposed press render that’s fairly plain looking, but suggests a little sophistication through a color screen. We’re still missing the rather important details of the Sonic 2.0’s performance and price; if prior tips are on the mark, though, we’ll have our answers (and more devices) in about six weeks.

Google Launches Nexus 4 Store Locator

Google Launches Nexus 4 Store Locator

Are you a Google Nexus fan, who hasn’t found the smartphone and would love to find a location near to you that carries it? Put your worries aside, and point your browser to a specific Google Map URL. Enter your address in the store locator and find a location as close as 5 miles to your present location and as far as 50 miles from your location. The store locator can find both Nexus 4 and Nexus 7. At the moment, the store locator only points to T-Mobile stores, as they are the only retail store which has the Nexus phone. However, more stores will appear once they are added.

This seems to be a positive initiative from Google to come up with a store locator and hopefully as more places are added to the retail seller list, the store locator will provide more value. However here’s a word of caution as well. The store locator does not show any live-stock information of the stores it points out.  Do give the retailer a call before heading out so that you do not end up in a wild goose chase.

Solavei becomes first US carrier to ship BlackBerry Z10, charges $999 for the privilege

Solavei becomes first US carrier to ship BlackBerry Z10

We’re pretty sure you’ve heard of the BlackBerry Z10 by now, but have you heard of Solavei? Let us jog your memory: Solavei is a virtual operator (MVNO) here in the US which rides atop T-Mobile’s GSM / EDGE / UMTS / HSPA+ network and offers unlimited voice, SMS and data for $49 a month, contract free. The company further sweetens the deal with discounts when you sign up friends. As for the Z10, you probably know that it’s already on sale in the UK and Canada but isn’t supposed to land on US carriers until mid-March. Well scratch that, because starting today Solavei is teaming up with GSM Nation to bring Blackberry’s flagship to its customers. We’ve confirmed with Solavei that pricing for the handset is a hefty $999 (unsubsidized, clearly). The company currently offers the ATIV S for $605, the Galaxy S III for $575, the Nexus 4 for $405 and the Ascend P1 for $391, to name a few. It also welcomes unlocked phones. Full PR after the break.

T-Mobile Planning Mid-March Release Of BlackBerry Z10 To Be First Among U.S. Carriers

T Mobile Planning Mid March Release Of BlackBerry Z10 To Be First Among U.S. Carriers

During the BlackBerry 10 launch event in New York City last week, BlackBerry announced its BlackBerry Z10 & Q10 would be available this March, although the Q10 may require a bit more time in the oven before it’s made available for consumers. Official release dates would be announced by BlackBerry’s carrier partners, one of which is announcing today it plans to be one of the first to make the BlackBerry Z10 available to its customers as soon as possible.

T-Mobile USA Head of Business Sales Frank Sickinger spoke with Bloomberg today and revealed the BlackBerry Z10 is “more stable than … anticipated,” which could mean a faster launch on its network over its competitors. Sickinger believes the BlackBerry Z10 could land on T-Mobile by mid-March.

Considering a leaked T-Mobile roadmap was released yesterday that highlighted the BlackBerry Z10′s launch date as March 27th, then Sickinger’s statement rings a bit of truth if the device is in fact performing better than the company originally expected.

T-Mobile Aiming To Be First With BlackBerry Z10 Launch In The U.S. With Mid-March Release

z10-13

T-Mobile says that BlackBerry’s new Z10 smartphone is “more stable than … anticipated,” and could potentially get a faster-than-expected launch on the network. As it stands, the new BB10-based smartphone looks to be on track for a mid-March release, according to statements made by T-Mobile USA Head of Business Sales Frank Sickinger speaking to Bloomberg today. The company anticipates it could be the first U.S. carrier “out of the gate” with BB10 as a result, according to the report.

Anticipated launch dates for the BlackBerry Z10 in the U.S. had pointed to a March 27 launch on T-Mobile, according to a leaked roadmap published by TmoNews earlier this week. While that date may have originally been accurate based on the carrier’s assumption of how long the Z10 would take to clear testing, Sickinger’s words today suggest that the timeframe has been pushed up.

The Z10 is already out and available in the Canadian and U.K. markets, and BlackBerry has been issuing reports of early sales success in both countries. The launch in Canada on Rogers is reported to have seen initial sales numbering in the “thousands,” making for a record launch day for a single BlackBerry device, and in the U.K. many outlets report being sold out. That said, BlackBerry still isn’t releasing any specific sales numbers, which casts some doubt on how successful sales have actually been, in relative terms compared to the larger smartphone industry.

The Z10 will retail on T-Mobile for $199 with a new two-year agreement, and will be offered to business customers ahead of its consumer launch, with about a week’s worth of lead time. If T-Mobile can get the Z10 in customer hands a bit faster than its competition,  that might help it win over some more business customers to its cause. But this could just spur other carriers to try to speed up their own testing processes, which should please the eager U.S.-based BB-heads out there.

Leaked T-Mobile Roadmap Reveals Nokia Flame 4G For 24th April

Leaked T Mobile Roadmap Reveals Nokia Flame 4G For 24th AprilThe other day a leaked T-Mobile roadmap revealed some upcoming devices for the carrier’s network, and according to a new leaked roadmap that TmoNews managed to get their hands on, a Nokia device by the name of “Flame 4G” has been revealed. We’re not sure if Nokia/T-Mobile will be sticking to this name or if will remain a codename, but either way according to rumored specs from last year, the Flame 4G will be a low-end offering with a 1GHz dual-core processor with 512MB of RAM, a 5MP rear-facing camera with 4GB of internal storage and a rumored microSD card slot.

However given its 4G capabilities (we’re not sure if this is T-Mobile’s 42Mbps HSPA+ “4G” or 4G LTE), we guess some customers might not mind a low-end device as long as it provides fast internet on the go. The date on the roadmap states that it should be announced or released on the 24th of April, so stay tuned!

Lumia 710 for TMobile won't be updated to Windows Phone 78

For reasons that aren’t quite clear, T-Mobile has just confirmed to TmoNews that the Nokia Lumia 710 won’t receive a bump to Windows Phone 7.8. While the update has taken its share of criticisms as a purely cosmetic revision, we’ve a feeling that more than a few folks were looking forward to the world of resizable live tiles — seems like a reasonable expectation, right? Fortunately, even in spite of T-Mobile’s mind-boggling decision, Lumia 710 owners can take the situation into their own hands and manually install the Windows Phone 7.8 upgrade. We’ll keep you posted if we learn anything more, but in the meantime, you can find the carrier’s painful doublespeak after the break.
