BlackBerry’s CEO Outraged Over T-Mobile’s Stunt

BlackBerrys CEO Outraged Over T Mobiles StuntJust the other day, T-Mobile began a promotion in which they trolled BlackBerry users into switching to the iPhone 5s, calling it an “upgrade”. Technically in terms of hardware, it would seem like an upgrade, but at the same time it does seem somewhat insulting when your carrier is mocking your choice of platform/device, doesn’t it? T-Mobile’s CEO, who has been known to be rather vocal, issued a response on Twitter in which he claimed that he would clear this up with his team and get back to them. (more…)

T-Mobile’s CEO Responds To Unhappy BlackBerry Customers

T Mobiles CEO Responds To Unhappy BlackBerry CustomersAs you might have heard the other day, T-Mobile had been sending out emails which seemingly trolls BlackBerry customers into switching to the iPhone. It’s not common for carriers to advertise new phones or make promotions, but the way T-Mobile did it was that they were asking BlackBerry users to “upgrade” to the iPhone 5s, suggesting that the iPhone 5s was superior and that BlackBerry devices were considered to be inferior. It seems that not many customers were appreciative of T-Mobile’s aggressive and borderline trollish campaign and have voiced their displeasure.

To that extent, T-Mobile’s CEO has since taken to Twitter in which he wrote, “BlackBerry users, I’m hearing you loud and clear. Let me work with the team and get back with you.” We’re not sure what he means by the tweet since the emails have been sent out and the damage has been done, but at least he has acknowledged that perhaps the ad campaigns might not necessarily have appealed to many. T-Mobile has been recently trying to do away with BlackBerry in their portfolio, with reports that the carrier would stop selling BlackBerry handsets in their stores, meaning that a customer who walks into a T-Mobile store would not even know that the carrier had the BlackBerry brand. So what do you guys think T-Mobile will do as a apology to BlackBerry users?

T-Mobile Jump Program Now Lets You Upgrade Whenever You Want

T Mobile Jump Program Now Lets You Upgrade Whenever You Want

Last year T-Mobile made waves in the U.S. cellular industry. The carrier embarked upon its “uncarrier” journey, doing away with conventional service contracts and the need to wait two full years before being eligible for an upgrade. Through its Jump! program, T-Mobile allowed subscribers to upgrade their smartphones every six months, twice a year. Now the carrier has removed that restriction. Subscribers will now be able to upgrade their devices whenever they want, though they will have to pay 50 percent of the total cost of their device, T-Mobile will cover up to 50 percent and will give them a new device, provided that the previous one is traded in.

Good news and bad news for serial phone-flippers: Starting on the 23rd, T-Mobile’s Jump plan will let you upgrade your phone any time you want, not just twice a year. But! You’ll have to have paid off half the value of your current phone in order to swap to the newest thing, a limitation that wasn’t originally there. [T-Mobile via The Verge]

T-Mobile Trolls BlackBerry Users To Switch To iPhones

T Mobile Trolls BlackBerry Users To Switch To iPhonesWe had heard reports of how T-Mobile would stop selling BlackBerry devices in-store as apparently they aren’t selling too hot at the moment. Instead T-Mobile would sell BlackBerry phones directly to customers, meaning that you’d have to ask for it if you wanted a BlackBerry device, which definitely cannot be good for exposure as far as BlackBerry is concerned. However it looks like T-Mobile is now taking it one step further by emailing current BlackBerry users and asking them to upgrade, not to a BlackBerry handset, but to an iPhone 5s instead, as pictured in the email above.

Now we’re sure most BlackBerry customers who open the email will most likely think that T-Mobile is advertising an upgrade to a newer BlackBerry handset, like the Q10 or maybe even the BlackBerryZ30, so we can only imagine it would be borderline insulting and a little upsetting to find that your carrier basically thinks nothing of your phone, but would rather push another platform and brand onto you instead. We reckon it would be the equivalent of Apple identifying Android users and sending them emails asking them to upgrade to iPhones, which would undoubtedly cause an uproar. In any case it looks like with each passing day, T-Mobile is starting to care less about the BlackBerry brand. Would it be completely out of the question to think that maybe T-Mobile might even drop support completely one day?

T-Mobile To End Nokia Lumia 810 Updates

T Mobile To End Nokia Lumia 810 UpdatesWhen it comes to smartphones, they are fun to use and of course, make life a whole lot more organized. The thing is, modern day smartphones do go through this thing known as obsolescence, especially when mobile carriers refuse to introduce any more updates to the hardware. T-Mobile US happens to mention that the Nokia Lumia 810, which was announced in October 2012, will no longer be on the receiving end of firmware and software enhancements. I guess it makes sense that mobile carriers offer a smartphone with a 2 year contract after all, as you would literally end up with a dinosaur in your hands after that time period. The lack of firmware and software updates might also translate to additional security vulnerabilities, too.

Deutsche Telekom Taking Its Time To Exit US Market [Rumor]

Deutsche Telekom Taking Its Time To Exit US Market [Rumor]For those unfamiliar, Deutsche Telekom is the parent company of US carrier T-Mobile. As you might have heard, there have also been talks that T-Mobile could be bought up by Sprint and in the past we have seen how other carriers, such as AT&T, have attempted to purchase T-Mobile as well. All of this seems to indicate that Deutsche Telekom wants to exit the US market as they believe that by being fourth place, behind AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint, it would limited their long-term profitability. T Mobile Moto X Android 4.4.2 Update Released

Just over a week back T-Mobile started conducting a soak test of Android 4.4.2 for its Moto X. The process involves rolling out the new firmware update to a select few people who then try out said update to ensure that no bugs or issues remain to be fixed before the firmware is finally rolled out to the public. Once an update reaches the soak test step, its public release is expected within a couple of weeks. That’s exactly the timeline this particular update has followed, today the T-Mobile Moto X Android 4.4.2 update has finally been released.

Sprint And SoftBank Rethink T Mobile Bid [Report]

There is a lot of speculation surrounding the T-Mobile Sprint merger. The latter is yet to make an official bid for Magenta, even though it has been rumored that there’s over $40 billion available in financing should a deal be made. Apparently Sprint and its parent company Softbank are currently rethinking about going down this road, because apparently they have been shocked by ”the level of opposition and its public nature.”

T-Mobile Wins Lawsuit Against AT&T’s Aio Wireless

T Mobile Wins Lawsuit Against AT&Ts Aio WirelessWhile Magenta might not be T-Mobile’s official name, it is what the carrier is referred to at times, just like how some people still refer to AT&T as Ma Bell, and how Verizon is also sometimes known as Big Red. That being said, magenta is also the color used by T-Mobile in their logo and unsurprisingly they weren’t too pleased when they discovered that AT&T’s Aio Wireless used the same color as them, which ultimately led to a lawsuit. Naturally AT&T claims that they did not use the magenta color, but we guess their argument is invalid as the courts have ruled in T-Mobile’s favor.

According to a statement that T-Mobile released upon learning about their win, “The court agreed with us that Aio can’t continue infringing T-Mobile’s magenta mark by using large blocks of what it has called “plum,” and told Aio to stop using magenta or similar colors in all of its marketing and advertising, including stores, web sites and social media.” This was also followed up by a rather spiteful tweet by T-Mobile’s CEO, John Legere, who wrote, “Young bullies steal lunch money, old bullies steal brand colors, right #Randall? Too bad we fight for our brand color”. What do you guys think? Are the colors any cause for concern of mistaken identity?
