T-Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 arrives at the FCC

The FCC played host to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 recently, although this particular model is slated for a specific mobile carrier in the US, namely T-Mobile, where it came accompanied with the model number Samsung SGH-T779. Part of the documentation revealed a tablet sized device which was developed by Samsung thanks to the brand name being in the image itself, not to mention T-Mobile branding in full view as well. This is a 4G enabled tablet, and the FCC model came with 16GB of internal memory to get you started right out of the box.

It must be said that when the SGH-T779 picked up its Bluetooh SIG Certification, it was linked to a different tablet, the SGH-i497, which is actually a variant of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 that was headed for AT&T. Simple deduction skills mean the Samsung SGH-T779 ought to be headed for the T-Mobile platform in due time. No idea on pricing or availability though as at press time.

T-Mobile can’t wait for November, adds Windows Phone 8X sign-up sheet to its site

Image

T-Mobile is whetting our appetites for HTC’s ridiculously named yet highly attractive Windows Phone 8X with a sign-up sheet on its website. The manufacturer confirmed that it’s aiming for a November launch for the (surprise, surprise) Windows Phone 8 handset, and we’ve also heard whispers that it’ll retail for $199 when it arrives. If those two factoids haven’t gotten you excited enough, you can always see how it compares to its rivals in our comparison feature.

T-Mobile’s HTC Windows Phone 8X signup page goes live

It was just last week that HTC officially announced their Windows Phone 8X and Windows Phone 8S devices, but unfortunately much like Nokia’s announcement of their Windows Phone 8 range of Lumia handsets, an official release date is still in the wind. This is probably due to both companies waiting for Microsoft to officially release Windows Phone 8 before putting their products up for sale, and if HTC’s offerings have tempted you more than Nokia’s, T-Mobile has since launched a signup page on their website where you can drop your email so that the carrier will inform you when the HTC Windows Phone 8X goes on sale. We already knew that the 8X would be launched on T-Mobile, but we were just waiting on a release date. Hopefully this signup page is an indication that an official launch isn’t too far behind. Anyone planning on picking one of these up when it’s available?

Solavei MVNO will pay you when your friends sign up, $49 a month all-in for those without any

Image

Unlike regular mobile networks, virtual operators — or MVNOs — have none of those expensive cellular infrastructures to worry about. Newcomer, Solavei, (which rides atop T-Mobile) is using this freedom to focus in on its business model. Just out of beta, the provider is offering unlimited voice, text and data for $49 per month, or free. Free? Well, if you’re silver-tongued enough to talk friends and family into signing up, too, you’ll get $20 kickback a month for every three — or “trio” as the marketing calls it — that you convince. There are other bonuses and chances to earn money — all obviously aimed at spreading the network’s audience, and offsetting the lower overheads. You can also use your own unlocked phone, or buy one of the three that Solavei currently offers (HTC One X, Wildfire S and ZTE Origin). This isn’t the first time we’ve seen such philanthropic approaches, and it might smack a little bit of MLM, but if your after an all-you-can eat mobile deal, and have a large group of friends, this could be a nice little earner. Still not sold? Perhaps the feel-good corporate video after the break will switch that up.

UK pricing begins to filter out for Motorola’s Intel-powered RAZR i smartphone

UK pricing begins to filter out for Motorola's Intelpowered RAZR i smartphone

Soon after it’s unveiling, the Intel-based RAZR i showed up in Clove‘s listings with a SIM-free price of £342, and now it looks as if a few more outlets are pushing pricing details to the world. Expected to storm the UK in October, the phone should ship to Virgin Media customers for around £23 per month on its Premiere Tariff, while T-Mobilers will be able to score one for £0 to £31 per month depending on the contract. All told, not too shabby for the world’s first 2GHz Atom-backed Android phone, and if you’re eager to push all of this iPhone 5 stuff aside, at least you know precisely how many quid to save up between now and next month.

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 2 lacks 4G LTE connectivity

Is there something wrong with T-Mobile’s top brass, at least here in the US, that they continue to frustrate their loyal customers? Not too long ago, T-Mobile was supposed to offer the Samsung Galaxy Note, but pulled out of it at the eleventh hour (never mind the fact that the Galaxy Note was already available on other carriers months prior), only to placate the masses with news that they will be offering the Galaxy Note 2 for sure. The thing is, the latest internal screen grab showed off what we already know concerning the Galaxy Note 2 in terms of hardware specifications, ranging from the quad-core processor to HSPA+ 42mbps connectivity and a rather massive 3100mAh battery.

One sore point that many Galaxy Note 2 owners would take into consideration is the fact that there does not seem to be any LTE support for the upcoming device, where it would have been nice to see T-Mobile future-proof the Galaxy Note 2 to be compatible with T-Mobile’s LTE network which is said to launch sometime in the middle of 2013 onwards. Would the lack of LTE connectivity affect your purchase decision?

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 owners to receive free The Avengers HD movie on their phones

Starting from the 25th of September, which is next Tuesday, the Marvel blockbuster movie The Avengers will be available on DVD and Blu-ray. However if you are a T-Mobile subscriber with a Samsung Galaxy S3, you’re in luck as you will be able to not only get The Avengers on HD on your Galaxy S3 handset, but it will be provided free of charge! It will be available for download via the Samsung Media Hub and is only available to T-Mobile subscribers, so if you are still a bit sore about T-Mobile not offering the iPhone 5, perhaps a free HD The Avengers movie on your Samsung Galaxy S3 might appease you. Granted the chances are most of you guys have already seen The Avengers, but we’re sure that many wouldn’t mind rewatching it, especially if you commute a lot and want something new (well, maybe not new per se) to entertain yourself while on the way to work or school.

Windows Phone 8X coming to AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile in November

Windows Phone 8X coming to AT&T, Verizon and TMobile in November

We just had a chance to see and handle the colorful Windows Phone 8X by HTC, but where will we find it in the US? On stage, the company told us that the new device will be heading to three major carriers: AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. All three operators should be pushing the device out sometime in November, though we’re still waiting to hear specifics on pricing — and we also haven’t been told details on the availability of the lower-end Windows Phone 8S.

Note: We’re hearing whispers that the 8X will be $199 on AT&T and T-Mobile, but both carriers have responded to our request for more information, stating that no pricing has been released yet. The press releases can be found below.
