T-Mobile Sprint Merger May Cost SoftBank $45 Billion

T Mobile Sprint Merger May Cost SoftBank $45 Billion

A few weeks back it was first rumored that SoftBank, which owns Sprint, is going to bid for T-Mobile U.S. While there hasn’t been an official announcement as yet, many reports have come since then claiming that the merger of the 3rd and 4th largest U.S. carriers is quite possible. At first it was believed that SoftBank will bid around $20 billion for T-Mobile, almost $19 billion less than what AT&T bid for it back in 2011. With Deutsche Telekom recently saying that T-Mobile’s value is back to the 2011 level, a new report claims that a bid of as much as $45 billion might be submitted, apparently SoftBank has already secured this much in funding from major financial institutions.

Sprint T-Mobile Merger To Be Discussed With FCC

Sprint T Mobile Merger To Be Discussed With FCC

Ever since it was first rumored that Sprint is interested in buying T-Mobile, there has been a lot of speculation about the response of regulatory authorities over the Sprint T-Mobile merger. This isn’t the first time that Magenta has attracted a buyer, back in 2011 it agreed to sell itself to AT&T for $39 billion, but the deal was blocked by regulators. Analysts are of the view that similar issues might plague a similar deal this time around as well, which is presumably why Sprint higher-ups are meeting with regulators to see where they lean prior to making an official buyout bid for T-Mobile U.S.

    sprint_sign

Ever since it was first rumored that Sprint is looking to acquire T-Mobile, there has been much talk about the response from U.S. regulators. Back in 2011, AT&T agreed to acquire T-Mobile for $39 billion, but the deal was struck down by regulators. The fears have emerged once again, this time for Sprint, which has apparently lined up as much as $31 billion for financing the deal if T-Mobile is to agree to a takeover. The Wall Street Journal reports that Sprint and Softbank CEOs met with the Department of Justice to talk up the T-Mobile Sprint merger, but its a possibility that antitrust authorities might strike down their plans as well.

    johnlegere

There has been much speculation about an imminent T-Mobile Sprint merger ever since it was first rumored that Sprint’s parent company, Softbank, was interested in acquiring the fourth largest U.S. carrier. Earlier this month, T-Mobile CEO John Legere gave off the vibe that the carrier was not interested in being taken over, saying that there was more potential for T-Mobile as an independent player. Last week it was rumored that Softbank has now entered in direct talks with Deutsche Telekom, which owns a controlling stake in T-Mobile U.S., and Legere now seems to be warming up to the idea of a merger.
