While T-Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G (formerly known as the Galaxy S Blaze Q) has yet to receive an official release date, additional photos of the device have surfaced, giving us more angles of the device to look over. If you’re a fan of Android smartphones with slideout QWERTY keyboards, then perhaps the Galaxy S Relay 4G could be a device you’ll want to keep an eye out for. Hardware specifications of the device has yet to be announced, so based on the rumors and speculation, the device will play nice with T-Mobile’s 42Mbps HSPA+ network, sport a 4” display, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor under the hood and is expected to run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It is also expected to feature a 5MP camera on the back. Originally rumored for a 15^th of August release, it is safe to say that the date has come and gone without any announcements, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled so check back with us at a later date for more updates.

While Brits still languish at the back of the queue for LTE, there is at least a sliver of hope that regulator Ofcom is moving forward with plans for 4G provision. It’s announced today that carrier Everything Everywhere (the combined network of Orange and T-Mobile) will be allowed to use its 1800 MHz spectrum to push out next-generation phone services. Ofcom decided that the change to the UK network’s license would deliver “significant benefits to consumers, and that there is no material risk that those benefits will be outweighed by a distortion of competition.” Auctions for additional 800 and 2.6 GHz bands are still on track to happen later this year, aiming for a roll-out through 2013. Everything Everywhere will be allowed to use LTE and (bizarrely) WiMAX starting 11 September 2012, although this may not be the launch date for any commercial service — which could be unfortunate. We’d been hoping that Huawei’s flagship Ascend D Quad would roll by the FCC, hinting that the long-in-waiting hardware was soon to become a reality. It’s here, and it looks to be the XL version we were promised back in Barcelona, with no mention of the LTE that some US carriers love so well. Like the Ascend D1, though, it’s carrying pentaband HSPA+ that would let its 3G fly at full speed on any North American GSM carrier. There’s a slight surprise in the camera. Schematics mention a 12-megapixel sensor as a possibility alongside the officially announced 8-megapixel shooter — that said, whether it’s a quiet upgrade, a regional variant or just a discarded dream isn’t made obvious here. More certain references can confirm video out through HDMI and MHL as well as the increasingly de rigueur NFC. We don’t need the FCC to confirm launches that start late this month in China and October in Europe, but the approval guarantees that there won’t be rude surprises for the release or for any imports, whether they’re unofficial or through a carrier deal.

Good news T-Mobile Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus owners, it seems like the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be heading your way today. According to T-Mobile’s support page, the update will be to Android 4.0.5, although we’re not sure if this was a typo to mean Android 4.0.4. Either way the update will be rolling out today but it won’t be an OTA one, which means that you will not be prompted to update. Instead Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus owners will need to connect their devices to the Samsung Kies software and pull the update manually. The latest version of Kies will be need in order to proceed. It should also be noted that the Samsung Media Hub will only work with Android 4.0 ICS after the 27^th of August, so if you wish to keep using it, you will have to update your device, which we assume you will want to anyway.
