xperia-z1s-tmobileAt CES 2014, we had a rather comprehensive hands-on experience with the Sony Xperia Z1s that was headed in the direction of T-Mobile, and we are more than glad to announce that this particular smartphone is finally available exclusively on the mobile carrier. Those who are interested in picking up this smartphone will be able to do so for $0 down, which should be a relief to folks who are on the lookout for a new handset and yet are pretty tight on their budget. T-Mobile Value Is Back To AT&T Deal Level: Deutsche Telekom CEO

T Mobile Value Is Back To AT&T Deal Level: Deutsche Telekom CEO

Germany’s Deutsche Telekom has a 67 percent controlling stake in T-Mobile U.S. The country’s fourth largest mobile carrier received a buyout bid from AT&T back in 2011, it was offered $39 billion, which it accepted. However the deal was blocked by regulatory authorities, and T-Mobile was compensated with roughly $7 billion in cash and spectrum. Since then, T-Mobile has become quite popular, in 2013 alone it made a number of “uncarrier” moves that brought in a lot of new subscribers. The carrier has bounced back in spectacular fashion, even after the botched deal with AT&T left its future uncertain. Deutsche Telekom CEO Timotheus Hoettges believes that the carrier is now back to the AT&T deal level, he pegs it at $42 billion.

LG G Flex For T-Mobile Registration Page Goes Live

LG G Flex For T Mobile Registration Page Goes LiveThe other day Sprint’s registration page for the LG G Flex came online and scheduled the phone for a release on the 7th of February. Well the good news is that if you’d much prefer T-Mobile than Sprint, you might be interested to learn that T-Mobile has put up the registration page for their LG G Flex as well. Do note that this is a registration page for the LG G Flex and not a pre-order page, meaning that you will not have to put down any money at the moment, but simply put in your details in which T-Mobile will then be able to notify you when the phone is made available, which we can only assume won’t be too far behind Sprint’s release. Pricing has not been mentioned ether but presumably it can be paid off via T-Mobile’s Uncarrier program.

In any case as far as specs are concerned, T-Mobile’s version of the LG G Flex will remain the same as all other versions of the phone, although possibly with different radios in order to make it compatible with the carrier’s network. Apart from that customers can look forward to a 6” curved OLED 720p HD display, a 13MP rear-facing camera, 2GB of RAM, and it will be powered by a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 32GB of onboard storage, a 3,500mAh battery, and will come with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean preinstalled. So, anyone planning on ordering the device when it is released?

Softbank And Deutsche Telekom In Talks About T-Mobile Buyout By Sprint [Report]

Softbank And Deutsche Telekom In Talks About T Mobile Buyout By Sprint [Report]

There has been a lot of chatter about Sprint buying out T-Mobile. Having the fourth largest U.S. carrier under its belt would help Sprint launch a much more effective competitions against the two behemoths dominating U.S. mobile industry, Verizon and AT&T. While T-Mobile recently gave off the vibe that it may not be interested in a buyout, latest reports suggest that Softbank, which owns Sprint, and Deutsche Telekom, which holds a 67 percent stake in T-Mobile, have now entered in direct talks.

Speculation surged recently as Deutsche Telekom transferred its stake in T-Mobile from a German holding company to a Dutch holding company, some believe that this might be an indication of its willingness to sell the U.S. arm of T-Mobile. Softbank will reportedly offer as much as $20 billion for the entire business, previous reports claimed that Softbank CEO had approached as many as six financial institutions and that he has received assurances that financing will be available should a deal be made. In direct talks, matters such as the amount of stock and cash to be paid for T-Mobile U.S. and the way the carrier will be integrated with Sprint are expected to be discussed, this according to sources familiar with the matter, Reuters reports.

T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z1s Bootloader Unlock Not Possible

T Mobile Sony Xperia Z1s Bootloader Unlock Not Possible

An unlockable bootloader is the key to tinkering with your Android device. People who want to flash custom ROMs, kernels or tweak with their devices at an advanced level need to first unlock the bootloader. Its very easy to do that if you have a developer, Google Play edition or a Nexus device. Not all OEMs ship their devices with unlockable bootloaders, some cater to carriers’ demands and lock them down for good. It has been discovered that T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z1s bootloader unlock is not possible, simply because this smartphone is not shipping with an unlockable bootloader.

It goes without saying that anyone who buys this smartphone won’t be able to tinker with it, flashing custom ROMs is out of the question until a solution has been developed or if T-Mobile decides to rectify this by issuing an update. Its ironic that for a carrier that’s defying the norms of the wireless carrier industry, T-Mobile has gone down a very traditional route that carriers take to stop customers from tinkering with their devices. There aren’t many differences between the Xperia Z1 and the T-Mobile exclusive Z1s, however the former does come with an unlockable bootloader which can be unlocked by obtaining an unlock key from Sony’s developer portal and applying it via fastboot. So if tinkering with the device is important to you, you would probably be better off without the Z1s at this point in time.

Banks Reportedly Willing To Back Sprint’s Plan Of Acquiring T-Mobile

Banks Reportedly Willing To Back Sprints Plan Of Acquiring T MobileBack in 2013, we heard the rumors that Sprint might be looking to buy T-Mobile. Given that Sprint was recently acquired by Japanese carrier, Softbank, it looks like the company’s plans to expand into the US market will not be stopping there. Talks have reportedly been conducted, with Sprint’s chairman reportedly approaching banks to help fund their acquisition. Well it looks like Sprint might have been successful with the banks because according to new a new report from The Wall Street Journal, the banks are now supporting Sprint financially to go ahead and make an offer to T-Mobile for a possible acquisition.  (more…)

T-Mobile Might Pay You To Switch From A Smaller Carrier In The Future

T Mobile Might Pay You To Switch From A Smaller Carrier In The FutureWhen it comes to getting consumers to switch from a different carrier, T-Mobile has not been shy and has actually been pretty damn aggressive. Their latest offer, Uncarrier 4.0, will actually pay customers to switch from major carriers and onto theirs. T-Mobile will not only pay you for your old phone, but will also pay your early termination fees, all of which could add up to about $650 if you’re lucky. Now the bad news is that this is only for major carriers, but according to T-Mobile, they told the folks at Re/code that they plan to loosening their requirements in the future and extend that offer to smaller carriers, such as US Cellular being one of them.

In fact they are so aggressive to the point where they will take in any phone, regardless whether it is in a working condition or not. Naturally phones not working will fetch a much lower price, but it is a good way to shave off a couple of bucks here and there, and put your old broken phone to good use. Naturally investors are worried since this would ultimately affect T-Mobile’s bottom line, although the carrier expects that this will most likely pay off in the long-run, and also the fact that not every customer will be getting the maximum payout of $650. Like we said it’s pretty aggressive, although we’re sure some would call it desperate, but what do you guys think?

T-Mobile Sports The Second Lowest Churn Rate For Q4 2013

T Mobile Sports The Second Lowest Churn Rate For Q4 2013Different customers have different expectations when it comes to carriers. Some are looking for the cheapest plan, some are looking for the fastest speeds, some choose a carrier because they like the image they portray, and some choose a carrier for its customer service. Basically at the end of the day everyone has different reasons for choosing the carrier they did. However it seems that as of late, T-Mobile’s customers are here to stay, at least according to a report from Wireless Week who revealed that T-Mobile actually sports the lowest churn rate at 15.4% for Q4 2013. It should be noted that the churn rate is based on customer surveys as opposed to actual figures released by the carriers themselves, so they might not necessarily be representative of the entire story. In any case this is a huge drop from the carrier’s churn rate back in Q3 2013 where it was sitting at a whopping 42.9%, meaning that almost one in two customers would switch to a different carrier.

In fact T-Mobile’s churn rates are so low that they beat out the likes of Verizon, who has typically had some of the lowest churn rates (Verizon sits at 17%), but did not beat out their rival AT&T whose churn was estimated at 11.1%. As far as Sprint is concerned, it does not look too good as their Q4 churn rates was at 31%, although admittedly it is an improvement over the 41.7% in the previous quarter. What could it be that made T-Mobile customers suddenly decide to remain loyal to the carrier? Perhaps it could be the carrier’s Uncarrier program, and also maybe the fact that they started to officially offer the iPhone as well. However recently T-Mobile has unveiled newer and more aggressive plans, which means that at the end of Q1 2014, we can expect the carrier’s churn rates to be even lower, or at least that’s what we hope. What do you guys think? Will T-Mobile’s new plans make customers want to stay?
