T-Mobile USA’s former CEO Phillipp Humm to become chief executive at Vodafone on October 1st

TMobile USA's former CEO Phillipp Humm to become chief executive at Vodafone on October 1st

Less than 24 hours after the unexpected news that Phillipp Humm had penned his resignation as T-Mobile USA’s CEO, Reuters is now reporting he himself has said a chief executive position awaits him at Vodafone. As you may know, this comes after the Magenta carrier had stated Humm would be leaving to reunite with his family back in the Old Continent, and seek a new career outside of Deutsche Telekom. According to the report, Phillipp Humm’s new role will be as a chief executive for Vodafone’s operations in northern and central Europe, which is set to begin as early as October 1st. Naturally, Vodafone CEO Vittorio Colao seems to be quite satisfied with Humm’s upcoming arrival, saying it “will be a strong addition to the Vodafone group executive committee.”

T-Mobile brings out new mobile data plans mainly for the suits and ties, makes overage optional

TMobile brings out new mobile data plans for the suits and ties, makes overage optional

T-Mobile just updated its prepaid data plans a month ago, and now it’s the corporate crowd’s turn for a shakeup. The new (and quite frankly daunting) array of primarily business-minded plans is based around whether or not you’d rather face throttling or overage fees if you push past a set cap. Overage Free plans for subsidized (Classic) and unsubsidized (Value) devices are largely self-explanatory and slow down that bandwidth cap-busting hotspot, modem or tablet until the next month. The High-speed plan range costs lower as a matter of course, but you’ll be dinged to the order of two to 10 cents for every megabyte over the limit. That said, there’s some bargains to be had versus other carriers, especially with the 5GB and 10GB plans. Provided you’re happy with T-Mobile’s coverage, it may be worth signing up to eke out a few extra dollars in savings every month.

Ex-CEO of T-Mobile USA Philipp Humm to join Vodafone

Yesterday, T-Mobile USA announced that its CEO Philipp Humm had suddenly resigned from the company. At the time, T-Mobile said Humm was leaving to spend more time with his family, but also mentioned that he would be pursuing a career outside of Deutsche Telekom. Reuters now reports that Humm has joined Vodafone to become the chief executive of northern and central Europe starting from October 1st.

Vodafone announced that it will be splitting its European dealings into two divisions, with one focused on northern and central Europe, and the other dealing with southern Europe. Paolo Bertoluzzo will be overseeing such markets as Italy, Greece, Portugal, and Spain, while Humm will be managing regions like the UK, Germany, and Turkey.

Humm oversaw the failed merger between T-Mobile USA and AT&T, a move that was blocked by the US government. T-Mobile USA, meanwhile, has been left without a CEO. COO Jim Alling will take over duties while the company searches for a suitable replacement.

T-Mobile customers consider Galaxy S III vs Galaxy Note

With the Samsung Galaxy Note coming up relatively quickly for T-Mobile and the Samsung Galaxy S III already in stores across the nation, it should be clear that any Samsung fan has a choice to make between the two. Which one will bring you greater fortune, and which will be the ideal Samsung device for you? This journey begins with a simple question of screen size, of course.

The Samsung Galaxy Note has a massive 5.3-inch HD Super AMOLED display while the Galaxy S III has a lovely 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display. The Galaxy Note has a pixel density of 285ppi while the Galaxy S III has 306ppi, this meaning that they’re pretty darn close when it comes to sharpness. The big difference between the two, then, is just that .5-inch difference diagonally. Consider your pocket size and your need for massiveness.

The Galaxy Note is made specifically to work with its build-in S-Pen while the Galaxy S III is more focused on being a device for everyone in the smartphone market. Both devices are made of premium quality materials that are, in the end, hard and powerful plastics with metal insides. The Galaxy S III works with its AllShare sharing abilities just as well as the Galaxy Note does, as both are working with Qualcomm processors, but the Note has an Snapdragon S3 chip while the Galaxy S III has the S4.

Expect the latter to go faster and work harder for you in the end – not in any giant way since they’ve both got next-level power throughout their builds in many ways, but the S4 will bring on a new level of excellence when you get nit-picky. Have a peek at the hands-on comparison we’ve got from this year’s CTIA from before the release of the USA versions of the GSIII:

Both of these devices are going to bring you a full high-level smart device experience, and Samsung is wholly dedicated to both devices for the future of their company. The Galaxy S III is clearly the hero of the day, but the Galaxy Note remains a relatively unique device, so you can count of Samsung to keep pushing it for the future.

Samsung Galaxy Note for T-Mobile pops up in claimed press shots, we try to feign surprise

Samsung Galaxy Note for TMobile pops up in claimed press shots, we try to feign surprise

There’s been demo units, FCC filings and the obligatory blurry photos, so it was only a matter of time before leaked press imagery completed our picture of a Galaxy Note for T-Mobile USA. As long as they’re not cosmetic makeovers by wishful T-Mobile fans, the CellPhoneSignal images portray… well, a Galaxy Note. No exotic colors, no obvious clues supporting talk that it ships with a preloaded Android 4.0 upgrade. Most of the hardware changes, then, should be all about adapting the HSPA+ 3G to support T-Mobile’s airwaves. Unconfirmed talk has the Galaxy Note reaching Magenta on July 11th; that’s nine months after the original version popped up, but we’re sure some will be thankful just to have more choices than AT&T for that phablet fix.

T-Mobile teams with Dollar General stores for Monthly4G and prepaid services

This week it appears that T-Mobile USA will be heading to the dollar store for some fabulous feature phone sales on a Samsung tip. The device you see below is the Samsung t139, a device that T-Mobile will be offering at more than 6,400 Dollar General stores across the nation starting in July. T-Mobile’s prepaid and Monthly4G No Annual Contract services will be offered up on and in addition to this device soon.

This new action will bring on a Monthly4G No Annual Contract for $50 with unlimited talk, text, and Web – with 100 MB of data inside that “unlimited” plan being up to 4G speeds. Dollar General will also be offering Pay As You Go plans as well as Monthly 4G No Annual Contract plans. T-Mobile’s senior vice president of national accounts Amy McCune noted the following on the situation:

“Dollar General is the nation’s largest small-box retailer and a well-respected company that customers go to when looking to get the most for their money. This is a natural partnership to help bring Dollar General customers to America’s Largest 4G Network at an incredible value.” – McCune

You’ll be able to find several T-Mobile products and services at the end caps in front of the store starting in July. Stay tuned as T-Mobile continues to expand their reach.
