A Co-Working Table With Hidden Depths

Co-working can be tough: regular users of a space have their natural sprawl, while those spending just a few hours at a desk would prefer a minimum of clutter. This desk has hidden depths to cater for all.

Lord of the Rings Dining Room: One Chandelier to Rule Them All

This Lord of the Rings dining room set is crazy awesome and perfect for anyone who is obsessed with Tolkien. The quality and workmanship here is stunning. This room would be your precious.

The One Ring chandelier is the focal point. Plus even the chairs have the White Tree of Gondor carved on them. Nice. The Eye of Sauron is also on the back of the chairs and the carvings along the side and near the bottom. Then you have the ring repeated on the bottom of the table. Apparently, the table was made by a now defunct company called Middle Earth Furniture (I am not making that up.)

If you are invited to dinner at this house, “You shall not pass” up an opportunity to eat at this amazing table. It is absolutely beautiful.

This Magical Table's Electromagnetic Field Turns On Nearby Light Bulbs

Hold a fluorescent light bulb near this table, and the filament will suddenly flicker on. It looks like magic, but it’s simple science: An embedded circuit produces an electromagnetic field that acts on the mercury gas inside the bulbs, making them glow as if they’re plugged in.

Ouija Board Rug and Coffee Table: Spirited Living Room Decor

Are you looking for a rug and coffee table that can channel spirits from the great beyond? If so, check out this conceptual Ouija board rug and coffee table from the mind of Dave Delisle of Dave’s Geek Ideas. I bet if you put your feet on that planchet, it will just tell you to vacuum, or complain about rings from your drink glasses because you didn’t use a coaster.

It’s some pretty cool and spooky decor. Just be careful about what kinds of ghosts you talk to. You might make your home the next Amityville Horror house. They wish they had a rug and coffee table this cool in that house. Maybe that’s why it was so pissed. Those homeowners were just slobs.

Anyway, maybe one day you can buy this. Sadly, right now it is just a concept.

Augmented reality table lets you explore a book without opening it (video)

Gensler and The Hive build digitally augmented table linked to 4K display, awesomeness video

We’ve seen touch-friendly tables before, but they’re rarely so slick as the Multi Surface Experience, a newly launched collaboration between design firm Gensler and ad agency The Hive. The installation lets guests explore Gensler’s architectural portfolio (the book you see above) just by walking up to a wavy table. An overhead projector, Kinect for Windows and special software present an interface wherever people stand; when users choose to learn more about a project, it pops up on a wall-mounted 4K display. The current experience is sadly confined to Gensler’s Los Angeles office, but it’s also the start of teamwork that could lead to commercial designs. Don’t be surprised if company lobbies are much livelier in the future.

Japan’s ‘Forever Alone’ Tables: Eat on Your Own Lonely Island

So Een Maal was on the right track after all.

Japan’s Kyoto University and Kobe University recently installed bocchi seki aka “lonely seats” at their dining halls while refurbishing it. The seats are called as such because they let the people seated finish their meals minus the chitchat that normally comes with dining with others.

Japan’s ‘Forever Alone’ Table

The dining tables feature 50-centimeter dividers at the center of the tables so you won’t have to interact or speak with the person who’s sitting across you. That saves you time, lets you focus on finishing your meal, and lets you avoid having to socialize or make small-talk with people you might not be very comfortable with.

Apparently, it’s something a lot of students appreciate. A 22 year-old female student told Asahi: “When I don’t have much time or I’m in a hurry, the lonely seats are convenient.”

Another student, a 22-year old male this time, said: “If you are sitting at a big table by yourself it’s like you don’t have any friends and that is embarrassing.”

What do you think?

The Ruark Audio R7 has a stylish look, that seems to be inspired from some hifi gear from the 1960s. It comes wrapped in walnut veneer and can stand on black lacquer legs. The center console is made from aluminum and glass. It houses a DAB+/FM/Internet radio, CD and MP3 player. Like many newer audio devices, it can stream music wirelessly over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

There’s a removable remote, called a RotoDial, that lets you control the console from anywhere in your home. The console has two drivers, an eight-inch subwoofer, and 160W of power from its class A-B linear amplifiers. It’s also got inputs for auxiliary digital or analog audio sources.

Ikea Resurrects the Little Table That Inspired Ikea as You Know It

Ikea is coming full circle square. This week, the company announced the return of Lövet, the humble table that inadvertently sparked the flatpack revolution in 1956 when, in a fit of desperation, a young designer chopped off its legs in order to cram it into his car.
