ThinkGeek’s Mark VII Sonic Screwdriver universal remote pleases Whovians in time for Comic-Con

DNP Think Geek unveils Sonic Screwdriver,

Ever wished you too could make use of the awesome powers that lie within Dr. Matt Smith’s Mark VII Sonic Screwdriver? Well, it’s still not exactly a reality in the way of the space-bred handyman’s gadget seen on Doctor Who, but ThinkGeek and The Wand Company have you covered if an IR-packing replica universal remote sounds good enough. This BBC-licensed Mark VII remote handles up to 39 commands that are all controlled using 13 different motion gestures. Of course, if controlling the likes of TV and AV devices in an extraterrestrial fashion just isn’t your thing, there’s always ThinkGeek’s Sonic Screwdriver flashlight, right? There’s no word on price just yet, but San Diego Comic-Con attendees can try it out first-hand at the BBC America Booth (#3629) starting July 12. The Mark VII remote is set to go sale for $99 at ThinkGeek’s website on August 31st, so for now we’ll direct you to the press release after the break.

Update: Video demo added after the break.

[Thanks, Alan]

Minecraft TARDIS: Blockier on the Everywhere

YouTuber UnlimitedMind42′s Doctor Who Minecraft machinima is so awesome you might not mind if the Twelfth Doctor was Dr. Steve. It’s all here – a TARDIS that’s actually bigger on the inside, time travel and a blocky David Tennant.

At first it seems that the Doctor is only traveling through space and not through time, but be patient. Who am I kidding – patience is a nonexistent virtue on the Internet. Skip to 3:00 in the video to see the proof that he is indeed traveling through time.

UnlimitedMind42 should have used the Weeping Angels mod for an additional reference. Again, this is not a mod, just a fun video, but you can get the textures that UnlimitedMind42 made – including the David Tennant skin – here.

Doctor Who TARDIS Quilt Surprisingly Not Made from the Fabric of Time

If you are a Doctor Who fan and are getting married, I hope you have a friend like graverobbergirl who created this TARDIS-themed quilt for her friend’s wedding present. She is a very good friend, indeed.

It features an swirling TARDIS surrounded by a whole mess of Daleks. Plus there’s a star field border on the outside. This queen-sized quilt measures 92″ x 92″ and is done in a pieced Irish Chain pattern. It was hand-quilted and machine-quilted, along with hand-applique and hand-embroidery.

The lucky couple will sleep just fine at night with this quilt keeping them warm. No doubt they will dream of Daleks and adventures on far away worlds. He will be the Doctor and she the companion. May they be happy for many years.
