Tekken X Street Fighter Apparently Still In Development

Tekken X Street Fighter Apparently Still In DevelopmentThe last we heard about the Tekken X Street Fighter game, it was back in 2013. Given that we’re now in 2014, what has happened to the game? Has it been shelved? Has it been cancelled? Is it delayed? Well the good news is that the game has not been cancelled, thanks to Namco Bandai’s 2014 release schedule which the folks at VG247 have managed to get their hands on. According to the schedule, Tekken X Street Fighter was listed as “TBC” for 2014, and while it does not really tell us anything about its status, we guess it’s good to know that the studio is still listing it and that it has not been cancelled entirely, although we’d love to hear word from the developers as to its progress.

For those hearing about the game for the first time, back in 2012, Capcom released a title called Street Fighter X Tekken which was basically Capcom’s take on the arcade fighting game feature Tekken’s roster of characters. Namco Bandai decided to do something similar with their own take and feel, resulting in Tekken X Street Fighter, although it was only until now that we have heard anything regarding its status. Back in 2013, the game’s producer, Katsuhiro Harada, reassured gamers that the game is still in development and that the reason behind the apparent delay was because Street Fighter X Tekken was still a popular title and that they didn’t want to dilute it by releasing their version too early.

Guy Plays Tekken Using an Electric Piano

If you have ever wanted to incorporate a musical instrument into games other than Rock Band, Rocksmith or Guitar Hero, this guy is your new best friend. Vimeo member Mc Cool is seen here in this video using a modded electric piano as a controller to play Tekken.

In this game, you get to kick ass and create your own theme music at the same time. If Schwarzenegger and Stallone could do that, we would have some really strange action movie soundtracks. While you ponder that, check out the video below:

Tekken Movie Prequel Is Not Happening, Actor Apologizes For Inconvenience

Tekken Movie Prequel Is Not Happening, Actor Apologizes For InconvenienceRemember yesterday we brought word that a new Tekken movie could be in the works? Well as it turns out, that is not the case. What brought attention to the possibility was by a post by actor Kane Kosugi, who has since removed the post from his website and apologized for the inconvenience. As it turns out, Kosugi got his roles mixed up and will be starring in a movie that at the moment has been given the title Agent X. While the details of this Agent X movie has yet to be revealed, it seems that there is little to no relation to Namco Bandai’s Tekken franchise whatsoever, especially since the franchise’s producer, Katsuhiro Harada appeared to have completely no clue that such a movie was in development and has since been shooting down reports of the film’s existence on his Twitter.

For fans of the franchise, we guess this could be seen as either good or bad news. Good in the sense that we might not be subjected to yet another movie based around video games, which for the most part have proved to be a rather horrible experience (anyone remember the Doom movie?). Even Harada called the original movie “terrible”, so at least for now we won’t have to subject ourselves to that. At the same time we’re sure fans are looking forward to a new movie in hopes that it will be better, and after all we’re sure most gamers are thrilled to see their favorite characters brought to life on screen.

Tekken: A Man Called X Movie In Development, Prequel To 2010′s Movie

Tekken: A Man Called X Movie In Development, Prequel To 2010s MovieMovies made based around video games are a little iffy to say the least. There are some directors who choose to base the movie literally around the game which has resulted in a cringe worthy experience, and then there are those who make a movie just using the characters from a game, which is sometimes too far removed that viewers complain that it makes no sense. In any case if you’re hoping that maybe one day we could be getting a decent video game movie, there are a couple that are coming up, with the latest addition being Tekken, according to Cinema Today.

According to the report, the movie Tekken: A Man Called X is an upcoming live-action movie based on the Tekken franchise and will start martial artist Kane Kosugi. The movie is said to be a prequel to 2010’s Tekken movie which even Tekken’s franchise director, Katsuhiro Harada, called “terrible” due to the fact that the series’ producers were not able to supervise the movie. It is unclear if this time round it will be different and if Namco Bandai will play a bigger role in the movie, after all it is their franchise’s reputation on the line here. In any case what do you guys think? Are you looking forward to seeing if it will work out this time?

Tekken Revolution Has 2 Million Downloads In 3 Months

Tekken Revolution Has 2 Million Downloads In 3 MonthsThese days, keeping track of sales figures of music, movies and games get even more complicated as newer categories are created, especially with the advent of digital downloads. Other than physical copies alone, trivia lovers will now have to check out just how well a particular digital download does in the market. I don’t know about you, but there is nothing quite like having a box of your game or Blu-ray disc sitting on the shelf rather than just an icon on your desktop or TV screen. After all, you are paying the same amount of money for both, so why not settle for “more”? Having said that, the Tekken game franchise which has been around for quite some time ain’t doing too bad, as series producer Katsuhiro Harada did share that they achieved 2 million downloads in three months for the spinoff known as Tekken Revolution.

Harada shared, “The Tekken franchise has sold 42.5 million copies worldwide to date – making it the top in the genre – and 20 million of those or more have come from Europe.” Not only that, we do know that majority of the user experience for Tekken Revolution hail from the United States, while Japanese audience come in “a close second”.

Tekken X Street Fighter Is Still In Development, Producer Reassures Fans

Tekken X Street Fighter Is Still In Development, Producer Reassures FansBack in 2012, Capcom released the Street Fighter X Tekken crossover game much to the delight of fighting fans around the world. Reviews of the game have been generally positive, but at the same time we’re sure some are wondering about its sibling, the Tekken X Street Fighter title that was briefly mentioned. Given that the title was announced back in 2010, does that mean that the game has ceased development? Well the good news is that if you were looking forward to seeing what Namco Bandai has in store for us, you can rest easy knowing that the game is still in development.

This was confirmed in an interview with Siliconera with Tekken’s producer, Katsuhiro Harada. According to Harada, “We will say first off that the game is still in development, so you don’t need to worry about that.” Harada also stated that some of the reasons why there has not been any updates on the game was because updates for Street Fighter X Tekken were still being released, and that due to the crossover, it seems that it has created a new community that they wanted to “take care and grow”, rather than just pushing out their game just to capitalize on Street Fighter X Tekken’s popularity. Still no word on when the game could be released, but it’s good to know that it’s still alive and kicking.

Mixed Martial Artist Says He Learned His Moves From Tekken

Mixed Martial Artist Says He Learned His Moves From TekkenWhen it comes to video games, it is understood that most of the things happening within the game is purely fiction and mostly exaggerated. After all one can hardly call themselves a race car driver just because they play a lot of racing car games, right? However it seems that mixed martial artist, Uriah Hall of The Ultimate Fighter fame claims to have learned some of this moves from popular fighting game, Tekken.

According to Hall during a video interview with Vice, “I was embarrassed to say, ‘Oh yeah, I played Tekken all day and copied the moves […] That’s how I learned. I would play that video game so much. I would go into practice mode and have the computer spar me back and forth, almost like regular training. I would just keep playing until I see something that I do or I like and I pick up on it. Visually, it was almost like my body just adjusted to it, so when I started to spar, moves that I would see would just kinda come back.”

Of course we expect that Hall’s trainers probably helped cut the excess moves and fancier stuff out during the course of his training, and in all fairness a lot of the basic moves in fighting games are modeled from real life martial arts to begin with, so we guess it wouldn’t be completely out of the question. What do you guys think? Anyone inspired to pick up a controller and start practicing?
