Play Tetris To Fix Lazy Eye

Play Tetris To Fix Lazy EyeWe have seen Tetris make its way to not only Smart TVs but smart watches as well, and there is always a good time to play Tetris no matter where you are, regardless of the device which you are going to enjoy playing it. The next time you are going to play Tetris for an excessively long time and someone chides you, just tell whoever is nagging you to stop that you are trying to fix your lazy eye condition, never mind that you don’t have such a condition in the first place. After all, it is a legit excuse now, as Canadian doctors have arrived at a conclusion that they discovered that playing Tetris is a new method to treat lazy eye.

The McGill University team found out that the popular tile-matching puzzle is good enough to train both eyes to work hand-in-hand, or rather, eyeball-in-eyeball together. A small study that involves 18 adults showed that Tetris as a vehicle of recovery worked better compared to conventional patching of the good eye in order to help the weak one work harder. I wonder whether Tetris is able to fix any other kinds of ailments.

Tetris Clone Makes Its Way Onto The Pebble Smart Watch

Tetris Clone Makes Its Way Onto The Pebble Smart WatchIf you are one of the many people who have bought the Pebble smart watch and you’re looking to get a little more out of the device, you’re in luck because it seems that after providing a rudimentary SDK to developers, a developer by the name of Robert Hesse has managed to cobble together what looks like a Tetris clone for the Pebble smart watch. Granted it’s not the most advanced of games, but we have to say it is a pretty impressive feat and should make the watch ever so slightly more entertaining. Dubbed “Pebblis”, for those interested in downloading the game you can go ahead and grab the files from the Pebble forum. For those who have tried, let us know in the comments below about how the experience is treating you!

Playing Tetris in Stop Motion Chalk Art Is A Lot Harder Than You Think

Tetris, a game we all spent many a years playing in the back of classrooms, on the top of toilets and so forth, has never been played like this. Artist Chris Carlson created a 3D chalk art version of Tetris and played a quick round of the puzzle game. It’s incredible how detailed it is, you feel as if you could just step right in and play the game. Except if you were to play the game you’d have to draw out each Tetris piece, note the shadows, erase the Tetris piece, re-draw the Tetris piece and keep on going. It’ll take a lot longer but you’ll probably have a better chance of actually winning. [Awe Me Channel] More »

Tetris Sculptures: Get Stacking!

Tetris is an amazing game. I have played that game for hours upon hours on the funky green screen of my old Game Boy. There have been many different versions of the game that have released over the years, but there’s something just so right about the original. The artist behind these sculptures must have felt the same way, with these clearly Tetris-inspired sculptures.

Swedish artist Michael Johansson has created a series of sculptures, which were assembled using a variety of different household items, stacked perfectly in a Tetris-like fashion. He considered form and function while putting these together. They each ended up as nearly perfect cubes, with different textures and materials.

The only thing that makes these un-Tetrislike is that in the game they would have all disappeared by now thanks to the perfectly stacked lines of stuff.

The sculptures are being shown at the Flat Gallery in Milan, Italy through February 24, 2013. So if you happen to be traveling through the area, you should go check these out.

Hasbro To Bring Tetris Games To The Real World

hasbro tetris Hasbro To Bring Tetris Games To The Real WorldHasbro is one brand name that has a whole lot to do with games, and they have certainly made a killing in recent times with three Transformers movies by Michael Bay, with far more merchandise sold than Optimus Prime can store at the back of his truck. Well, there is another icon that could make the jump into the real world – that of Tetris.

Hasbro has already come to an agreement with Popcap’s parent EA to port the Bejeweled game to the offline world, and this time their agreement is with The Tetris Company, meaning Hasbro will have the go-ahead to manufacture and distribute face-to-face games that are based on the Tetris brand. I wonder just how these Tetris games will pan out in the end, and assuming you have a sore loser sitting opposite of you, which tetromino would hurt the most when you hurl it at someone with a whole lot of force?

Would you purchase a Tetris board game? It is hard to imagine just what kind of excitement can come out from what is basically a brick-dropping game in real life, but perhaps the folks over at Hasbro know something that we don’t.

Hasbro lands deal for real-world Tetris games, brings us our L blocks this August

Hasbro lands deal to make realworld Tetris games, brings us our L blocks this August

With all the Tetris ports we’ve seen to not-quite-digital mediums, there’s been very few truly physical games built around those seven iconic pieces. Hasbro plans to explore that final frontier shortly. It just reached a licensing deal with The Tetris Company to offer “multiple” very tangible games based on Alexei Pajitnov’s original vision. The expansion starts in August, when we’ll see a light-matching, Tetris-themed version of Bop It! and the seemingly inevitable Jenga variant. We’ll have to wait for more details, although we hope Hasbro isn’t too authentic — we’d like a few more straight pieces this time around.

Tetris Magnets Let You Have Some Fun on Your Fridge

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of Tetris. I used to play it on our old Nintendo console, but I’ve only recently rediscovered it when I saw it on the Google Play store.

Now, the classic game is jumping off of the screens of gaming consoles and tablets because now you can piece together Tetris pieces on your fridge with these officially-licensed Tetris magnets.

Tetris Fridge MagnetsThis isn’t the first time someone used the classic game to come up with an actual physical thing. Remember those Tetris cushions we showed you a couple of months ago?.. and the Tetris bookshelves?.. and the Tetris lamp?.. and the Tetris computer?.. and Analog Tetris?

Of course, none of the lines will clear off your fridge once you complete the entire row, but you could always just knock the magnets off by using a kitchen towel or oven mitt or something.

The Tetris magnets are available on Amazon for just $9.99(USD) for a pack of 49 – 7 each of 7 shapes. Black refrigerator recommended.

NYC Museum of Modern Art opens game collection with 14 classics, exhibiting in March 2013

NYC Museum of Modern Art opens video game collection with 14 classics, on display starting in March 2013

Given the subject matter, this is usually where the author waxes philosophical about whether — having been accepted by a major international museum — games are indeed “art.” We’re gonna skip that needless exercise today and simply tell you that the New York City Museum of Modern Art is officiating its intake of 14 video game classics as the start of an ongoing gaming collection, set to go on display in March 2013 in the MoMA’s Philip Johnson Architecture and Design Galleries — the same galleries that house an original iPod and more. The games range from Buckner & Garcia inspiration Pac-Man to modern classic Portal, and even includes some lesser known gems (vib-ribbon, anyone?). The MoMA blog calls this initial selection just the “seedbed” for a chunkier collection of around 40 titles, all of which will be part of a “new category of artworks” at the iconic museum. Head below for the full first 14.

Tetris Stackable LED Desk Lamp

There is just something about laying bricks together in the proper order that has made the game Tetris such a hit. In fact, this particular game has not only remained available until today, you can more or less say that it has thrived – especially when you see it being made available on the world’s most popular social network, Facebook, allowing you to play not only against yourself, but with others as well while introducing different concepts.

The $39.99 Tetris Stackable LED Desk Lamp is one lamp that you can stack up any way you want, subject to the laws of natural physics, of course. This seven-piece interlocking light boasts of extremely bright LED bulbs within, where you stack them in any combination. Whenever they are not stacked together, the LED light will not turn itself on, making it a true blue example of teamwork. Too bad it does look impossible to have a perfect clear.
