Texting And Driving Results In Man Crashing Into Manure Truck

If you’re as much of a fan of the Back to the Future films as we are, you’ll know one of the most iconic scenes from all of the films was when Biff Tannen crashed his car into the back of a manure truck, resulting in a tidal wave of dung being emptied out into his vehicle. Up until today, we thought this could never, ever happen, but the power of the Internet has once again proved the impossible will always be possible. (more…)

Don’t Text and Drive Because You Might Crash into a Manure Truck

Don't Text and Drive Because You Might Crash into a Manure Truck

So we might have found Biff Tannen. A guy in Wisconsin was texting and driving a Ford Mustang convertible when BAM… he crashed into a tractor pulling a trailer "full of liquid manure". Yikes, that might actually be worse than Biff’s fate in Back to the Future.

Mississippi Man Caught Double-Texting With 3-Year-Old, Drugs In His Vehicle

Mississippi Man Caught Double Texting With 3 Year Old, Drugs In His Vehicle

AT&T conducted a survey last week that found adults text and drive more than teenagers, but after hearing about this next story, we’re curious just how many of drivers out there double text and drive, which is probably as dangerous as it sounds as it involves a person texting and driving with two mobile devices.

According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama, 19-year-old Dandre Moore was found to be texting while driving his vehicle, which by itself is already a serious matter. But what officers found was Moore driving his vehicle with his knees so he could have both hands free to text with two separate devices. It also doesn’t help Moore’s case that he had two women and a three-year-old in the back of his vehicle, 386 oxycodone pills, Xanax, marijuana and $5,000 in cash. You would think with that amount of precious cargo, Moore might want to play it low-key. (more…)

11-year-old wins $20,000 at AT&T hackathon for creating app that discourages texting while driving

AT&T’s already working on an app to keep folks from texting while driving, but earlier this month it gave folks at a Los Angeles hackathon the chance to develop their own solution. David Grau, a creative director and designer at an interactive agency, and 11-year-old Victoria Walker were awarded $20,000 by Big Blue to bring their smartphone application to the public. Dubbed Rode Dog, the prize-winning software allows friends and family to organize themselves into “packs” and monitor their text messaging habits. Watchful users can spot when a fellow group member is texting and initiate a barking noise on the offender’s phone. Much like squawking seat belt systems, the app is designed to remind drivers of their wrongdoing and doesn’t stop the ruckus until they acknowledge it. If you’d rather have a chicken or other animal grab your attention, the duo crafted an in-app shop that offers other wildlife sound sound effects. Rode Dog isn’t expected to hit iOS, Android and Windows Phone until its fully polished, but you can sign up to receive word of its launch at the second source link below.

AT&T developing tech to help parents keep teenagers from textinganddriving, hopes to saves lives

By now, you’re likely aware of some of the repercussions that come with shooting an innocent text to a friend while being behind the wheel. Well, in an effort to keep these unfortunate accidents from ever occurring, the AT&T Foundry’s been hard at work, hoping to come up with solutions to help with this serious matter. Most recently, the Rethink Possible outfit showed off an application that’s currently in the works; one that allows parents to track their teenage drivers’ every move, as well as remotely turn off calls and disable all messaging features — which the carrier says will be a great compliment to its DriveMode app. It’s worth noting the unnamed application was being showcased on one of Cupertino’s slates, but AT&T’s said it’s willing to work with “device makers, car makers and developers,” as the ultimate goal is to ultimately “encourage more solutions.” There’s a video past the break for your viewing pleasure, and we think it’s worth all of its 197 seconds of airtime.
