Portal 2 sentry turret protects your desk

If you’re gamer who’s played the puzzle-platform game Portal 2, you’ll undoubtedly remember the sentry turrets you encounter during the game. If you never played Portal 2, it’s a cool game that debuted in 2007 and five years later fans are still playing. This isn’t a the first Portal 2 sentry turret toy we’ve seen over the years, but this is one of the few we’ve seen that plugs into your computer via a USB port.

This particular turret comes from ThinkGeek and is called the Portal 2 Sentry Turret USB Desk Defender. Once you connect the device to your USB port, it will monitor your desktop environment with motion sensing technology. When the turret senses motion it will offer one of five quips the turrets say in the game.

The turret will say things like “There you are,” “Preparing To dispense product,” “I see you” and a few others. If you knock the turret over or move it, it also says things you’ll recognize from the games such as “I don’t hate you,” “hey, hey, hey”, “Nonfunctioning” and others. Once activated if the turret senses no motion for 30 seconds it will say, “Are you still there.”

When the turret does since motion, it opens up its little side wings where its guns hid in the video game. This little USB-powered turret doesn’t shoot anything, it only makes sounds. The turret is 7.5-inches tall and is an officially licensed Portal 2 collectible. You can order one right now for $39.99.

TARDIS Mini Fridge Does Seem Bigger on the Inside

It’s not obvious from the pictures, but apparently this mini-fridge is spacious enough to hold a 6-pack of 12 oz. soda. That’s some Time Lord wizardry right there. Place it inside one of these TARDIS fridges and you’ve got yourself a time machine within a time machine. A Horadric Cube within an inventory. A physics problem.

As if it wasn’t powerful enough, the fridge can also function as a heater at the flick of a switch. It also has a tiny light up top and makes the VWORP VWORP sound effect when the door is opened or closed.

You can order the TARDIS Mini Fridge from ThinkGeek for $80 (USD). Sadly it does not come with a one-eleventh scale Doctor.

Doctor Who K-9 Figure

So you are a huge fan of Doctor Who and all that entails it, no? Having a miniature Tardis fridge in your office alongside some tiny Dalek figurines guarding your workspace, you might as well go the whole nine yards with the exclusive $15.99 Doctor Who K-9 Figure from ThinkGeek. This K-9 Figure is the Doctor’s robot doggie friend, and it is more than ready to come home with you, assuming you are willing to part with the amount of dough mentioned. Come on now, how far is $20 going to bring you these days? Yeah, not very far, right?

The Doctor Who K-9 Figure comes across as a cute alternative to rubber duck lovers, and it measures 8” in size, making it ideal for you to exercise your imagination to the maximum. Sporting a whole lot of details all the way down to the striped collar, it is more than ready to love you to bits – even better is, there is no need for you to pick up after it, and neither do you need to comb it for fleas from time to time.

R/C Micro Copter

Summer might be over, but this is no reason not to indulge in a little bit of remote controlled goodness once in a while. After all, when you were growing up as a kid in a less privileged home, remote controlled toys were out of the family budget, and since you are already a working man at this point in your life, you might as well splurge a little bit on yourself with the $39.99 R/C Micro Copter. Just because it is a Micro Copter, this does not mean that it is no big on fun! The R/C Micro Copter measures a mere 3” in length, operating on the IR 3 radio band, sporting three channel control, and it could prove to be an annoyance to your cat or dog.

Of course, since a cat does seem to have greater vertical achieving capability than a dog (read: jumping ability), you might want to be careful lest your pet cat tears into the R/C Micro Copter with vigor, thinking that it is doing you a favor by catching its prey. You will need to stock up on rechargeable batteries if you are going to spend plenty of time with the R/C Micro Copter in the long run though, considering how it runs on half a dozen AA batteries.

To thank you, we want to give you a $100 and a $50 ThinkGeek gift card to two lucky winners.

What will you buy with your winnings? Star Trek underwear? A Dr. Who T-shirt? Something that will amuse your co-workers for a few minutes and then collect dust on your cubicle shelf? The choice, as they say, is yours.

To win, please comment below describing the dark carnival of familial pain you’re currently attending with or without your loved ones this holiday. Non-US readers please describe how much fun you’re having in your own milieu, whether you’re going to work tomorrow or hoisting a tankard of your local ale in the warm companionship of your local meadery.

We’ll close the contest on Saturday and pick two winners then. Thanks to ThinkGeek for the cards and happy Thanksgiving!

Doctor Who TARDIS Mini Fridge

You know you’re a huge fan of the Dr. Who series when you start to be on the lookout of collectibles – anything and everything to do with the sci-fi series, of course. Well, not all of us do own a small fridge at home, as those tend to be found only in hotel rooms, which is why we have taken a special interest in the $79.99 Doctor Who TARDIS Mini Fridge. This delightful little fridge does have enough storage space inside to hold up to a 6-pack of soda, and not only that, it does have a very close resemblance to the real TARDIS.

Of course, the Doctor Who TARDIS Mini Fridge does not have to keep things nice and cool always, as reversing the polarity will see the interior keep things nicely heated and warm all over. To add to the overall effect, it comes with a flashing light as well as TARDIS sound effects whenever you open and close the door (the trademark VWORP! VWORP! sound). Bear in mind that this is an officially licensed Doctor Who collectible, and is will be able to plug into a standard US outlet or DC 12V car socket.

Portal 2 Sentry Turret USB Desk Defender

There is nothing quite like a science fiction device being brought to life in the real world, and here we are with the $39.99 Portal 2 Sentry Turret USB Desk Defender that ought to wet your pants – in a good way, of course. This is basically a motion detecting turret that will help guard your desk against any pesky busybodies who love to loiter around your work area whenever you are not around.

Featuring sound effects from both Portal and Portal 2 titles, the Portal 2 Sentry Turret USB Desk Defender will be able to open up its wings as well as shoot bullets – naw, it will only do the former, but is as harmless as a cute little hamster as there are no bullets that it can discharge. Whenever it detects any motion nearby, it will say one of the following : “Target acquired”, “There you are”, “I see you”, “Preparing to dispense product”, or “Activated”.

Should the turret be moved or knocked over, it will say, “Critical error”, “Shutting down”, “I don’t hate you”, “Hey, hey, hey”, and “Malfunctioning”. If it is ignored after 30 seconds of inactivity, it will ask innocently, “Are you still there?” Sounds like the ideal device to own, no?
