Admiral Ackbar Talking Plush

I guess you can more or less say that Admiral Ackbar’s most famous line in his Star Wars “career” would be, “It’s a trap!”, when he realized that his fleet of Mon Calamari cruisers are outnumbered and outgunned by the Imperial fleet of Star Destroyers. Well, you can now bring home a cute version of the good admiral himself in the form of the $29.99 Admiral Ackbar Talking Plush, where he comes across as a Star Wars Celebration 2012 exclusive. All you need to do is give this cute little plush a nice squeeze, and Admiral Ackbar will then blurt out his signature phrase – as long as the batteries inside last, of course. Do bear in mind that only limited quantities will be available, as once they are sold out, the only way you can get your hands on one would be to look out for it on a second hand shop or via online channels.

To make sure it retains a sense of authenticity, there are the words “Star Wars Celebration VI” printed on the bottom. The Admiral Ackbar Talking Plush measures approximately 8″ in height.

Doctor Who Cybernetics Science Set

Animals learn by playing, and so too, do us adults, especially back in the days when we were just wee kids. Don’t you think that you learned a whole lot during your play time? Well, here is one way to figure out whether your little one has a penchant for electronics and science when he or she grows up – with the $39.99 Doctor Who Cybernetics Science Set in tow.

With the Doctor Who Cybernetics Science Set, this DIY Cyberman will require one to connect the circuits in order to perform the relevant upgrades which will range from infrared capability to object awareness and light sensitivity. Fret not if your little one is unable to figure things out for him or herself, Thinkgeek has so kindly thrown in a detailed instruction manual for your perusal. Just make sure your wee lad is aged 14 and above, and just in case you were wondering why I referred to “your little one” above, this is because most parents think that their little ones are just that – they remain little all the time in parents’ eyes, don’t you think so? Best to have a couple of rechargeable AA batteries handy at all times too.

Scalextric Star Wars Race Tracks

Oh boy, who can forget the nail-biting podrace where Anakin Skywalker actually managed to beat Sebulba against all odds, securing his freedom from Watto unknowingly in the process? Having said that, Thinkgeek might have just the thing for you if you want to recreate the Beggar’s Canyon scenario right there and then in your living room.

You will be able to zoom around with these Star Wars slot car kits, where you can choose from Death Star Attacks and Battle of Endor sets. These are professionally done and well-detailed, boasting 1/32-scale models and will retail from $99.99 to $149.99, depending on the set that you choose.

Ferrofluid Magnetic Display

No matter how old you are, surely the child in you still yearns to play. After all, we learn best when we play, and even in the animal kingdom, basic survival skills are picked up when a litter of puppies or kittens (big cats in the wild, too) play with one another. As for humans, here is one desktop toy that you might want to purchase for yourself or as a gift for a good friend, as the $29.99 Ferrofluid Magnetic Display certainly makes for a decent stress reliever – far better than just squeezing and letting go of a stress ball or to blow right into a paperbag, I say!

Touted to be utterly addictive, you will obviously use magnets provided with the Ferrofluid Magnetic Display to make the fluid “dance”. Hand-crafted in the USA, ferrofluid is actually a kind of colloidal liquid that is made of particles less than 10 nanometers in diameter. Whenever they are subjected to a magnetic field, the nanoparticles will form regular patterns of peaks and valleys, and in the world of electronics, those are are used to form liquid seals in order to prevent debris from getting into a hard drive. Have a good time creating artistic masterpieces for yourself and others to admire during those free moments at the office.

Penbo Lovable Penguin

Love makes the world go round, or so that is what we have been taught to believe. Well, some of our friends in the animal kingdom are easily lovable without much effort on your part, such as puppies, kittens, and of course, penguins. It is not going to be easy keeping a pet penguin in your home due to the kind of special environment that it needs to thrive in, which is why if your little toddler has been bugging you for a pet penguin for his or her birthday, you can give in to that request – without getting a real penguin. Still, the $59.99 Penbo Lovable Penguin is one lovable bugger, as Penbo interacts with you through touch and sound.

Not only that, there is a surprise-colored (pink, blue or green, although we would have liked to see the entire rainbow range) Bebe which will pop out from Penbo’s stomach pouch (is this some sort of penguin-kangaroo hybrid that we do not know of?), playing games with one another to boot. Penbo is capable of chirping and dancing around, and just like some of the more modern toys, will be able to communicate and interact with Bebe and other Penbos too. Best to get rechargeable batteries in your home if you want the Penbo Lovable Penguin to be a permanent fixture, as it runs on half a dozen AA batteries.

Micro Light Smartphone Pack

If there is one thing about the Boy Scouts that we should follow, it would be their motto of being prepared at all times. Pretty good advice, especially when you consider how you can never quite tell just when something might go wrong along the way. Having said that, here is a tool that you might want to carry around with you wherever you go since you do not know when Murphy might rear his ugly head and strike – and I am referring to the $9.99 Micro Light Smartphone Pack.

The Micro Light Smartphone Pack is a dual wield light that comes complete with a pair of microtools for smartphone users. Each set will also be accompanied by a smartphone stand and cleaner, offering you a flashlight for each hand. After all, you cannot tell just when disaster will strike, but there is one thing you will need to keep in mind – make sure there are spare CR1616 batteries around the home which can be easily accessible as the batteries on this thing might just die out during the most inopportune of moments.

Lighting Fixture Puts Fireflies on Your Ceiling

When I was growing up, one of my favorite memories was that of tiny fireflies buzzing about my backyard in the Summer evenings. But for many years of my adult life, I ended up living places where there were none of the luminescent insects. Only recently have I started seeing them again, but certainly not in the quantity I used to see them in my childhood. While I’m not likely to hang this lightning bug lighting fixture in my own bedroom, it looks like it would be a wonderful addition to any kid’s room.

firefly light

This ceiling-mounted light is made up of green plastic leaves, with little LED illuminated fireflies hanging out on them. The illuminated bugs twinkle and shimmer as your kids look up to the ceiling and drift off to sleep. All told, it’s got 7 light-up bugs, and can be turned on and off with the included remote control.

As an added bonus, the whole thing runs on battery power, so you don’t need to worry about having electrical wiring done, and you could hang multiples all over your ceiling if you want. The Firefly lighting fixture sells for $34.99 (USD) over at ThinkGeek, and it’s the next best thing to seeing actual fireflies in your backyard.
