T-Mobile Will Give You the iPhone 5 for Free If You Trade in an Old iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S

After a long wait, T-Mobile will finally start selling the iPhone 5 this Friday. To sweeten the pot for people (and to encourage people joining up with Magenta), T-Mobile will be accepting old iPhone 4 and 4S phones for the price of a brand new iPhone 5. That is, if you trade in an iPhone 4 or 4S to T-Mobile, you won’t have to pay anything up front for a T-Mobile iPhone 5. More »

T-Mobile handsets will remain network-locked, can be freed when the device is yours

TMobile handsets will remain network locked, can be freed when the device is yours

At T-Mobile’s UnCarrier event, there’s been a lot of talk about how you, the customer, are no longer tied in. No contracts, no obligations, no restrictions, right? Turns out that new iPhone you’ve just paid $100 upfront for isn’t so liberal, as the carrier has said any handsets you pick up will be locked to the T-Mobile network. There is a welcome caveat though: as long as you’ve paid the cost of the phone off, the Magenta mob will unlock it for you. That means if you’re unhappy with whatever new plan you’re on, you can take the phone elsewhere with a flat, one-time payment, or installments of your choice — whether that’s continuing on a monthly basis, or larger sums at an accelerated rate. Of course, if you just want out, you can always trade it back for a “fair” amount.

Update: We spoke with Apple regarding specifics of the new hardware and the unlocking details, which can be found here.

Report: T-Mobile Is Finally Getting the iPhone Tomorrow

The saga of T-Mobile and the iPhone is full of twists and turns and fakeouts and missed connections. Every year a new iPhone comes out, every year T-Mobile gets left out of the cool kids club (which is basically every other carrier at this point). That changed in 2012, when T-Mobile announced that it would get the iPhone sometime in 2013. According to CNET, “sometime in 2013” means tomorrow. More »

Nokia Lumia 521 for T-Mobile given FCC approval

Nokia Lumia 521 for TMobile caught with FCC approval

RM-917. It may not sound like much on the outside, but the model number and above picture correspond with the Nokia Lumia 521, T-Mobile’s version of the lower-end Lumia 520 announced at MWC last month. We still don’t have any details on when it’ll show up on retail shelves, but it’s at least made its way through one of the final barriers to entry: the FCC approval process. As you might expect, the docs are low on details, but the frequencies support 850 / AWS / 1900 HSPA+ / UMTS as well as quadband GSM / EDGE. To refresh your memory, the 520 will sport a 4-inch WVGA LCD panel, 512MB RAM, a 5MP camera, microSD storage and quite a few other respectable goodies. Head to the source if you’re a sucker for numbers and acronyms.

T-Mobile’s Contract-Free Plans Are a Real Thing Now

T-Mobile’s Uncarrier, no-contract pricing is live. You can start at $50/month for talk/text and 500MB of data, or add $20 for unlimited. Now all it needs is some LTE—which is coming soon—and you’ve got yourself a wicked good deal. [T-Mobile] More »

T-Mobile Will Sell the Sold Out Nexus 4 for 200 Bucks Tomorrow

Google already sold out of the off-contract Nexus 4 but T-Mobile told The Verge that they’ll be selling the 16GB Nexus 4 for 200 bucks (with a two-year contract) tomorrow. If you don’t want to tie yourself with a T-Mobile contract, the same phone will cost you $500. Yikes. That’s a steep price bump from the no contract $350 16GB Nexus 4 that was at the Google Play store earlier but if you snooze, you lose money. [The Verge] More »
