Hue Toaster: Make Perfectly Brown Toast Each & Every Time

You know, when my toaster doesn’t get my piece of toast just right, I get really pissed off! OK, I don’t actually get that mad, but burnt toast is definitely an annoyance. Toaster tech hasn’t evolved much in the last century, but this smart toaster concept aims to take things into the 22nd century and beyond, at least for toast-making.

The Hue toaster was designed by Basheer Tome. It uses photo sensors to determine the color of bread as it toasts. Once it reaches your pre-selected level, it pops out the toast. The toaster automatically varies the toasting time depending on what you pop in, and does away with the need for special “bagel” or “frozen” modes.

A frozen piece of bread will take longer before it thaws. Thicker pieces of bread will take longer, but this toaster handles them all automatically.

While The Hue is still in the prototype stages, I hope it gets made to resolve all of our first-world, toaster-related problems.

The Hue Toaster Ensures The Perfect Toast Every Time

You know the saying – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Having said that, I am quite sure that most of us would agree that the evolution of the humble toaster stopped a long time ago, with only newer designs being the only thing that is “exciting” whenever a new model appears. This could be why there is no fanfare for a new toaster being released by consumer electronics giants, and inventor Basheer Tome intends to amend this pitiful situation with his Hue toaster. The Hue toaster is touted to be the smartest toaster that you have ever come across. Tome figured out that toasters are not the brightest bulb on the block, and for example, one toaster will burn your bread at level 5, while a different model might need you to drop the bread twice in order to get the job done.

The Hue toaster is different from them all, as it relies on photo sensors in order to determine the different kind of color of the bread as it toasts, and once it has arrived at the pre-selected level of “doneness”, it will pop up, ready and waiting for you to slather butter and your favorite raspberry preserve all over. If that ain’t smart, I don’t know what is.

Domo Toaster: Bread and Monster Go Together Like, Well..

Even if you don’t know his name or story, chances are you’ve probably seen Domo-kun’s face. Which is also his body. And once you’ve seen him, it doesn’t matter if he’s the mascot of Japanese TV station NHK or a holy servant who kills baby animals. The undeniable fact is that he’s adorable. So would you turn down a chance to turn normal bread into Domo-kun? Hell no!

Toaster tells the weather while popping you breakfast

Some of us think that the best things in life are simple items – such as some home-made jam, butter and freshly made toast. Well, if you want to spruce up your dining room with a unique toaster to go along with the rest of the appliances there, how about keeping your fingers crossed that this conceptual toaster would actually be funded to make its way across the manufacturing line? The Jamy toaster concept is the brainchild of Nathan Brunstein, where it relies on integrated Wi-Fi connectivity to pull weather information from a server somewhere, so that what pops out from the toaster will provide basic weather information for the day as such as the sky’s prognosis as well as temperature.

Once you have gobbled down the weather report, you can head to the office (or wherever you are headed to) with a smug look, knowing that the umbrella you carry in your hands is not there for show or to beat up some bullies around the neighborhood, but to help keep you nice and dry when the heavens open. The Wi-Fi cheap would need to be pretty heat-resistant though, or is well insulated from the heating element in the toaster if it were to last, don’t you think so? Not too sure how the Jamy Toaster knows where you are located though.

Jamy Toaster Prints the Forecast on Your Breakfast Bread

Here’s a clever upgrade to the everyday toaster – a kitchen appliance that can burn the current weather forecast onto the face of your toast each morning. Designed by Nathan Brunstein, the Jamy is a conceptual design for a “smart toaster” that has a built-in weather application which could scorch the forecast into bread.

As an added bonus, the single-slice toaster looks kind of like a video game console. While it’s not clear exactly how the printing mechanism would work, it seems like a really clever idea – one that every hotel and bed & breakfast in the world should use when they serve up toast for breakfast. Also, it needs to support more than one slice at a time, or else I won’t be able to get my proper morning carb fix.

NES Toaster Makes You Take out the Toast and Blow on It

If only Nintendo would actually make stuff like this, my life would be complete. I mean, just look at how amazing this NES toaster looks. It’s an Nintendo Entertainment System that makes you breakfast. Best toaster ever.

It’s an awesome accessory that is perfect for every geek kitchen. And no, you don’t really have to blow on the toast a few times before getting it to work. Although I wouldn’t mind one bit. It just adds authenticity.

It was made by my burning eyes on Deviantart, who obviously knows something about design. I love the sliders in front to control how dark you want your toast.

It’s also the exact opposite of the Nintoaster.

Toaster USB Hub and Toast Flash Drives: Ready to be Jammed with Data

I’m sure you have a thousand and one flash drives by now, but as far as gimmicks go, you don’t see USB hubs with matching flash drives that often. Too bad this toaster USB hub doesn’t pop the flash drives out when they’re ejected.

The flash drives come in four variants, including one that seems to have been burnt to a crisp already:

The toaster also has an SD Card reader built-in. You can of course use the USB hub with any flash drive (and the toast drives with any USB hub), but, well:

Unfortunately, this delicious combo costs a lot of bread. ThinkGeek is selling the goodies separately, $28 (USD) for the hub and $25 for each of the 4GB drives, so for a fully-loaded four-slice toaster, you’re looking at $128.
