Hayabusa Watch Concept: How Master Chief Tells Time

The latest TokyoFlash concept watch from UK designer Peter Fletcher is one of his coolest yet. The Hayabusa LED watch features a case inspired by the Spartan armor of the same name from Halo.

The helmet-shaped case has an EL-backlit LCD that looks like the helmet’s visor, while watch is covered in a finish that looks like armor. Though I have to say it looks more like Mjolnir armor to be as it’s not pointy like the Hayabusa armor in the game. Still, it’s totally cool.

What I really love about the design of this watch is that the display is surprisingly easy to read. Twevle dots in the middle indicate hours, while the shapes that flank each side are just distorted digits for the minutes.

While those not in the know will have no clue as to what time it is, you’ll be able to tell time at a glance – hopefully before some Elite tags you with a sticky grenade.

Halo fans, If you like what you see, head on over to the TokyoFlash design blog and show your support for the Hayabusa watch. With enough votes, TokyoFlash could very well put the design into production.

TokyoFlash Kisai RPM Gold Watch Looks Like Something Tony Stark Would Wear

At first glance, this watch might look like a timepiece from the Iron Man franchise, but it’s not. It’s actually the TokyoFlash Kisai RPM gold watch. Like most TokyoFlash timepieces, it’ll require a bit of time and practice before its wearer will actually be able to read the time off of it. Once you get the hang of it, I have no doubt that telling the time will get easier.

When the watch is off, it looks sleek and polished with its blank face and curved, smoked lens. When it’s on, lights illuminate to indicate what time it is: the inner ring displays the current hour, while the outer ring shows the minutes, with each brick divided in five-minute intervals.

The watch also has a neat light-up animation where the LED lights spin around the display at fifteen-minute intervals from six in the evening until midnight. As is the case with many of TokyoFlash’s watches, this one is USB rechargeable.

TokyoFlash Kisai Online – take the red pill and tell the time

kisai-onlineI am quite sure that many people have already watched The Matrix which rolled out at the end of the previous century, having turned into a cult film with a sequel and subsequently, third film which had plenty of snazzy special effects, although the explanation in the story has proved to be as confounding as ever even until today. I guess it makes sense then, if the $168.99 TokyoFlash Kisai Online timepiece was part of the Matrix world, especially since it comes with an extremely unconventional way of telling the time, that to the untrained eye, it is seeing nothing more than just some random lines moving around.

With the TokyoFlash Kisai Online, it will come with a built-in accelerometer, so that it knows the exact moment when you turn your wrist. Doing so would see the lines fall away, allowing you to tell the time as it is right there and then. How is that for a genius product? The TokyoFlash Kisai Online comes with a black steel case and strap with natural LCD face, and it will take some practice before you are able to tell the time expertly, so do expect a learning curve attached to this cool clock. One thing’s for sure, once you have mastered reading the time on it, your friends would have regretted taking the blue pill in the past.

TokyoFlash Kisai On Air lets you tell the time with flair

A fancy timepiece is something that everyone would like to have, although at the end of the day, you will not go wrong with the like of Tissot or a Rolex. Of course, such watches will definitely cost a bomb, but you know for sure that they are basically watches that will be able to last you for an entire lifetime. Well, how about taking the road less traveled with the $199.99 TokyoFlash Kisai On Air? This particular timepiece sports a minimalist design without compromising on the insides which actually boasts of a highly-technical package.

In a nutshell, the TokyoFlash Kisai On Air will most of the time feature a blank, round LCD display that has a number written on where you would normally find the hour hand reside on an analog watch. The number itself will be able to tell you just how many minutes it is past the hour, while the angle it’s pointing to will indicate the hour itself. Minimalist and smart at the same time, making it a firm favorite with us geeks here. Not only that, the dial itself is touch-sensitive, as it boasts of a quartet of hot-zones (top, bottom, left, right). These hot-zones would allow you to change the mode with but a touch of a finger, now how about that?

TokyoFlash Kisai Adjust tells the time via digital triangle time

kisai-adjustIf you have always wanted to have a cool looking timepiece that is extremely difficult to read, then you would not be able to go wrong with Tokyoflash’s collection of timepieces. Their latest addition to the collection would be the $178.99 TokyoFlash Kisai Adjust, where it will boast of a digital triangle time readout. You can opt to tell the time in either a horizontal or vertical display, depending on your cup of tea, and there are also half a dozen LED colors to choose from, with the option for multi-color transition thrown into the mix along as well.

Just how does the TokyoFlash Kisai Adjust work? Well, it will be able to show off the time in a non-stop array of changing mosaic of LED triangles. You can opt to have it shown off in either 12 or 24 hour modes, and some might say that the vertical mode makes it easier to read the time compared to the horizontal mode. Even more, when night falls, the Tokyoflash Kisai Adjust would feature a tiny fish that swims across your wrist, accompanied by random sparkles for that added touch of uniqueness that only Japan can offer. It will also be water resistant up to 3ATM, and has a stainless steel case, strap, and clasp.

Kisai Rorschach ePaper Watch: Blot O’clock

The Kisai Rorschach is the newest watch from Tokyoflash, maker of timepieces that are intentionally bad at presenting the time. The display looks similar to the ink blots used in the eponymous test, but it’s actually easy to decipher. The top right shows the hour and the bottom left shows the minutes. The other two symbols are just mirror images.

The watch has three difficulty modes. Why? Because Tokyoflash. From what I can tell changing the difficulty doesn’t change how you read the display, it just switches to hard-to-read symbols for the numbers. The date and alarm settings are also displayed in the same manner.

Because the watch uses an ePaper display, Tokyoflash added a power-saving sleep mode to the watch.  As you may know an ePaper or e-ink display does not consume power if it’s just showing a static image. So in sleep mode the watch will only display one symbol, which will be different depending on what day it is.

Tokyoflash even made a fan video to promote the watch, starring none other than The Watchmen‘s Rorschach. Is it still a fan video if you’re promoting a product? Hmmm.

I wish they didn’t use such a tacky font to print “Rorschach” on the display. Other than that I think it’s a neat design. You can order the watch from Tokyoflash for $179 (USD).

Tokyoflash Kisai Console Gets A Wooden Touch

Tokyoflash Kisai Console Gets A Wooden TouchThe folks over at Tokyoflash are extremely famous for their range of timepieces that sometimes, do require plenty of brain power in order to decipher the particular time. Of course, some of us would want a simple analog or digital timepiece so that we are able to know just what time it is at that particular moment with but a glance, instead of having to use our brains any more than we need to. This time around, we have the 2011 version of the Kisai Console watch getting a makeover, where it will now feature a wooden touch. The new 2013 Kisai Console watch will come with the original watchface from 2011 which still resembles that of a futuristic looking control panel, with the only difference being that of its steel case as well as strap having been replaced by a handcrafted sandalwood bracelet in either red that is accompanied by green LEDs, or in a hue of an extremely dark brown that will feature green or blue watchfaces.

Assuming you do not mind wearing one of these puppies, it will cost you $109 a pop as part of a promotional price, at least until this coming November 14th. Any takers so far? There aren’t too many days before time runs out and you will have to pay more afterwards.

Tokyoflash Kisai Quasar Is Rather Difficult To Read

Tokyoflash Kisai Quasar Is Rather Difficult To ReadTokyoflash is a company that is well known for its range of interesting looking watches in the past, where we have seen the likes of a Kisai Maru Wooden, a Kisai Neutron, as well as a Kisai Blade that tells the time using LEDs. This time around, there is another “masterpiece” from Tokyoflash that will be known as the Kisai Quasar. The Kisai Quasar is special because it arrives in the form of a hexagonal-themed timepiece which was originally submitted by a certain László Scheffer, who happens to be a huge fan of what Tokyoflash has done.

The kind of geometry which has been echoed in the watch face of the Kisai Quasar will definitely be extremely appealing to those who are more geekily inclined. Of course, just in case you do not have the kind of smarts or simply are not too bothered about how you will read the timepiece, there is a simplified mode which will show the numbers to represent the correct time. The Kisai Quasar will arrive in silver or black shades, where it will retail for $109 temporarily, after that the promotional price will end with a $149 price point. Thank the heavens for a simplified mode, don’t you think so?

    Tokyoflash Kisai Maru Wooden Timepiece

Tokyoflash Kisai Maru Wooden TimepieceNormally, when it comes to timepieces, most of us would eventually arrive at a point in our lives where we splurge a wee bit of dough that will certainly go some way in making ourselves look good in front of the mirror. In such cases, the watch would be made out of stainless steel and other precious metals, with those who have deeper pockets featuring precious gems embedded within to boot. Having said that, Tokyoflash has churned out weird looking timepieces in the past that does require a fair amount of brain power in deciphering the current time. Their latest effort arrives in the form of the Maru, which happens to look a whole lot more natural.

Bear in mind that the inner facing-hand would still let you know what hour it is, while the outward pointing-hand is associated with the current minute. The Maru will not be powered by termites running on a treadmill within, but will instead continue to rely on a standard battery. While it might feature a wooden band and case, there are still metal bits and pieces within. Those who are interested can pick up the Tokyoflash Maru for $99 a pop, which is a promotional price for the next couple of days. [Product Page]

Another wooden Tokyoflash timepiece emerges, the Maru (video)

DNP Another wooden Tokyoflash timepiece emerges, the Maru

Tony Stark’s favorite timepiece is going natural with Tokyflash’s wood Maru. From the looks of them though, the only change between the maple and red sandalwood variants and last year’s metal model is they no longer resemble something we’d see on our favorite genius / billionaire / playboy / philanthropist. The inner facing-hand still points to the hour, the outward pointing-hand remains associated with minutes and the Maru continues to use a standard battery for power. It may have a wooden band and case, but we’re almost positive you’ll still have to take it off at airport security. If you want to test our theory, this Maru is $99 for the next 48 hours and $129 after that.
