This week’s Tokyoflash watch comes in maple and sandalwood (video)

DNP Tokyoflash

Tokyoflash’s busy horologists know no bounds when it comes to designing watches. The company’s latest timepiece is an update to last year’s bee-friendly Kisai Zone that sports wooden cases and straps. Each of the three available woods is married to its own LCD color for the screen — dark sandalwood’s is black, red sandalwood goes purple and maple snags a blue readout. Speaking of which, it doesn’t look like anything has changed compared to the first Zone’s watch face. It still features a standard battery that lasts “at least a year,” a funky hexagonal display (hours on top, minutes in the middle and seconds on the bottom) and an Indiglo-like backlight. If you fancy wearing part of a giving tree on your wrist, you can snag one of these for $99 if you act within the next two days.

Tokyoflash Kisai Blade LED Watch Inspired by Turbine Engines

If you’ve been following Technabob for any period of time, you know we’re big fans of Tokyoflash and their unusual watches. Now, here’s a Tokyoflash watch that is kind of a big fan itself. That is, it’s based on the fan blades of a turbofan engine.

The new Kisai Blade watch gets its inspiration from the blades of a turbine fan engine. When off, the face of the watch really does look like a jet engine. It’s got a stepped, smoked lens which conceals an array of LEDs arranged around a central point. The watch is based on a concept design originally submitted by Peter Fletcher to the Tokyoflash design blog.

When illuminated, the LEDs can tell time in one of two modes – one which works like traditional watch hands – and another which rapidly flashes the time by indicating each digit based on the angle of each hand. It’s also got a nifty animation mode which should be perfect for all of those raves I know you’ve been attending. If you want to see it in action, check out the demo video below:

The Blade is rechargeable via USB, and you can go about a month between charges. It’s available in black, gold, silver, or silver with a leather band, and in several different LED color choices. I think the all black with the red hands is my favorite.

TokyoFlash Kisai Blade Tells The Time Using LEDs

TokyoFlash Kisai Blade Tells The Time Using LEDsLEDs seem to lead the way in decorating things these days – from smartphones to the “angry daytime running lights” that we see in vehicles to traffic lights, they are cost effective and yet bright enough to get the job done compared to conventional bulbs. How about using LEDs to tell the time instead? This is what TokyoFlash has decided to do, with their latest TokyoFlash Kisai Blade which is inspired in its design by the aviation industry, boasting of a custom-made turbine-style lens, while relying on tube LEDs which will rotate in the manner of that of an airplane propeller in order for you, the wearer, to be able to tell the current time.

The LEDs will operate in a trio of modes, where “Turning” will rely on a constant cycle in order to light up hours and minutes, while “Animation” will transform your wrist into a rave (minus the booze as well as pills, of course), sporting a constantly spinning diodes. A USB-rechargeable battery will power the TokyoFlash Kisai Blade timepiece, and they are able to go for a month before requiring a charge. To wear this particular bad boy around your wrist, it will cost you $159 a pop, although it is right now on promotion with a launch price of $139 – albeit for a limited time only.

Tokyoflash’s Kisai Blade looks to the air for inspiration, tells time with tube LEDs (video)

TokyoFlash’s watches aren’t known for their subtlety, but, despite taking cues from the aviation world, its latest design looks a bit more grounded than previous offerings. The Kisai Blade sports a custom-made turbine-style lens, and uses tube LEDs that rotate, like an airplane propeller, to tell time. The LEDs operate in three different modes, “Turning” uses a constant cycle to light up hours and minutes, while “Animation” turns your wrist into a rave with a constantly spinning diodes. In case you’re wondering how it displays the finer minutes, “Flashing” mode slowly flashes the minute hand at the standard five minute intervals, and four dots indicate minutes one through four. The timepiece uses a USB-rechargeable battery that can go a month between charges and is available with red, blue and green LEDs, and gold, silver and black bands; there’s a leather band option, too. If the Blade strikes your fancy, you have the next 48 hours to snatch one up for the launch price of $139, or if you miss the sale window, $159.

Tokyoflash Kisai Neutron Watch: It’s Cylon Time!

Who doesn’t like having a watch that looks like it’s from the future? Well I sure would like to have one, and I have to say that the Kisai Neutron from Tokyoflash would be perfect for humans and Cylons alike.

    tokyoflash kisai neutron watch

The Tokyoflash Kisai Neutron has a metal grille over some LED light bars that curve around your wrist. The time is displayed by flashing digits, which makes it easily readable by anyone. You can view time either by watching the digits scroll or fade in. The watch is motion sensitive, so you just need to give it a shake to show the time. You can also choose to have it always on, or light up upon the touch of a button.

The Kisai Neutron watch sells for $169(USD) and is powered by a USB-rechargeable battery. It comes in black, gold, or gunmetal with white, blue, or red LEDs.

In fact, one of their latest releases, the Tokyoflash Kisai Neutron, will jive with Cylons everywhere thanks to a future forward form factor. In fact, it will even sport a built-in motion sensor that can be set to display the time (or date, should your desk calendar happen to be missing( through a simple action of waving up and down.

Over the course of the next 48 hours (the clock is definitely ticking!), the Tokyoflash Kisai Neutron can be yours for a special price point of $139 a pop. The particular “light show” on the Tokyoflash Kisai Neutron is easily activated through a flick of the wrist, or you can also opt to take the more traditional route by pressing a button. Apart from that, if battery life is not too much of an issue with you, you can always settle for the “always on” mode. The Tokyoflash Kisai Neutron would arrive in black, gold and gunmetal color options for the stainless steel and plastic case, in addition to red, white and blue for the LEDs. Since the battery is USB-rechargeable, juicing it up after a day of “work” should not be too difficult.

Tokyoflash Kisai Intoxicated: The Portable, Wearable Breathalyzer

If you like to go out and have a drink, it’s always problematic when you have to decide whether to drive your own car back home. Sometimes, enough time has passed for you to no longer be intoxicated, but other times, you’ll end up with a DUI – or worse. This watch could save your life.

    tokyoflash intoxicated kisai breathalyzer watch

The Tokyoflash Kisai Intoxicated has a built-in breathalyzer, which will test you blood alcohol level with its sensor. You’ll need to blow into the side of the watch for five seconds and wait for the watch to give a reading. The watch shows 10 different levels of blood alcohol content.

    kisai breathalyzer 2

Green means you’re stone cold sober. Yellow means your BAC is between 0.41 and 0.60%, meaning you’re slightly buzzing. A red display shows 0.61% and more, meaning you’re drunk, and .80% or higher means you’re legally drunk in most places. Keep in mind that Tokyoflash doesn’t warrant that the results are completely accurate, so officially the watch is “for entertainment purposes only.”

tokyoflash intoxicated kisai breathalyzer watch side

There’s even a built-in sobriety game to test your reactions. It involves hitting a line when its in the dead center the screen. The game is harder when you’re not sober.

The Kisai Intoxicated watch is currently available for pre-order for a special price of $99(USD) for the rest of the day today. On 6/21, it will revert to normal retail price. Tokyoflash expects to deliver pre-ordered watches by July 8th.

A $100 Watch Can Tell If You’ve Had Too Much To Drink

    intoxicated_breathalyser_watch

The Japanese watch company Tokyoflash has long turned heads with their odd (if unreadable) designs but in a first they’ve added a breathalyzer to their Kisai watch, thereby allowing you to see just how drunk you’ve gotten at la Jetée.

The video below is a bit, shall we say, obvious: the company hired a charming Scottish man to get drunk. He, in turn, does. He then tests the watch, showing off its various features. In short, the watch has a sobriety game – basically a little test of your hand eye coordination – as well as a real breathalyzer built in. While the readings probably wouldn’t hold up in court, it’s accurate enough for you and your drunk friends. Given the problems I could see associated with passing your watch around so people can blow directly into it, you may want to buy a few for your entire gang.

The display on the right of the screen shows 10 different levels of blood alcohol content. A green display showing 0.00‰ means you’re sober. A yellow display showing between 0.41 and 0.60‰ means you’re buzzing. A red display showing 0.61‰ or above means you’re drunk!

The watch costs $99 and charges via USB. Thankfully the face is actually readable so it should be a snap to check in every few hours for a round of “Who had more Kirin?” at your local watering hole.
