Grush, Connected Toothbrush with Games

Grush, Connected Toothbrush with Games
Another day, another connected toothbrush… the Grush one is slightly different from Kolibree, the first electrical connected toothbrush, because it will feature a few games at launch and it is not electrical. Note that the Kolibree team talked about adding games in the future but we have not seen one yet. For now, Grush is merely an early stage prototype that has been developed by cofounders Ethan Daniel Schur and Dr. Yong-Jing Wang.

    DIY Toothbrush Timer: Brush-type Motor

Tinkerer Steve Hoefer found a way to put those kitschy chattering teeth toy to good use. With the help of a 555 timer chip, a servo and some soldering, you can turn the toy into a timer that automatically counts down as you start brushing.

When you remove your toothbrush from the Toothy Toothbrush Timer’s toothbrush holder, a switch activates the chattering teeth. When the teeth stop chomping, you’re done brushing. That’s all there is to it. Steve set his timer at 2 minutes and 10 seconds, but you can of course set your own time.

Your Toothbrush Now Connects to Your Smartphone

The French, apparently having nothing better to do with their time, are now helping dentists get even richer. That’s because a French company has developed a toothbrush called the Kolibree that connects to your smartphone. It will cost somewhere between $100 to $200, and like other toothbrushes, it won’t stop you from going to the dentist regularly. But it will make you feel cool that you have a connected toothbrush.
    kolibree toothbrush 620x727magnify

The idea is that the toothbrush will be able to teach you to brush the proper way and also make sure you’re brushing long enough. The toothbrush will also be able to talk to other apps on your phone, so I’m sure you will see some brushing games that kids will enjoy too.

The better kids brush, the longer they will keep their teeth. We can only hope that this thing won’t start posting how long we brushed our teeth on our Facebook walls.

    Kolibree Connected Electric ToothBrush

Kolibree Connected Electric ToothBrush[CES 2014] Wearable technology and connected objects is going to be the major trend at CES this year. All the conditions are set for the “perfect storm”: components are cheaper, more powerful and consume less energy than ever,  a lot more people own a smartphone in 2013, software development costs have decreased (except for the engineer salaries in the US) and crowdfunding platforms such as Kickstarter have funded wearable concepts to a level never expected. I am thinking of Pebble ($10 M), Emotiv Insight ($1.6M), or Oculus Rift ($2M) for example. (more…)

Blizzident 3D-Printed Toothbrush Requires Only Six Seconds of Brushing – Er, Biting

I think you know by now why it’s important to brush your teeth regularly. Those two minutes each morning and night might just save you from a future of missing teeth and dentures. But now there’s a new toothbrush of sorts in the market that promises to cut your brushing time down to six seconds per session. I’m not kidding.

BlizzidentIt’s called the Blizzident and it’s a 3D-printed toothbrush that’s customized for your specific dental configuration. It costs $299(USD) to get one made, because it’s custom nature means that you can’t just pick one up at a store. You’ll have to get a dentist to make a 3D impression of your teeth, which is scanned into a 3D file and sent off to Blizzident.

They will then get to work on your custom toothbrush. The Blizzident has soft bristles all over, so instead of moving the brush, you just have to bite and chew for six seconds to get a deep clean around every tooth in your mouth – as well as your tongue. It’s recommended that users get a their Blizzident replaced annually. After the initial brush, it’ll cost $159 for replacements.

You can get more information about the Blizzident on their website.

3D Printed Toothbrush Will Clean Your Teeth In Six Seconds

3D Printed Toothbrush Will Clean Your Teeth In Six Seconds

We realize how important it is to stay on top of our dental hygiene on a daily basis as having a mouth full of rotting teeth will probably won’t be a great look for us. The problem is the amount of time it takes to brush and floss our teeth as well as the fact that we probably miss a few spots here and there without even realizing it. That won’t be a problem any more now that the Blizzident toothbrush has been invented.

T2T Tongue to Teeth is a Tongue-Mounted Toothbrush

This isn’t the first time that someone tried to reinvent the toothbrush. Remember the Rolly rolling toothbrush, where you were supposed to pop one into your mouth and chew to ‘brush’?

The T2T Tongue to Teeth toothbrush takes a page from Rolly, only the T2T is meant to be mounted on your tongue.

    Tongue Toothbrush

The Tongue to Teeth toothbrush is meant to help people freshen their breath and brush their teeth when they’re on the go and can’t use their hands, ie. like when they’re driving or walking to their next meeting after lunch. The T2T has been designed to be disposable and has toothbrush built into it, so you really don’t need to do anything else except slip it over your tongue and lick your teeth.

I wouldn’t recommend this to people who have poor gag reflexes. It doesn’t look like the most comfortable thing to put over your tongue either. I don’t even want to think about sizing issues; I highly doubt one sizes fits all. I mean, what about the people with tongues that are fatter than the average?

    What do you think?

The Tongue Toothbrush Is the Grossest Way to Be Hygienic

Toothbrushes haven’t changed much. Sure some fancy tech wiz brushes spin the bristles themselves but at the end of the day, after centuries of use, we still have to hold the damn thing. Not anymore. The T2T is a hands free toothbrush that you slip onto your tongue to do your teeth cleaning. It’s the grossest way to be hygienic. More »

Grabit Robot Not Really a Robot, But Does Really Grab Things

While there are literally a million pen and toothbrush caddies out there, most of them are pretty boring if you ask me. If you’re looking for a fun way to keep your stick-like objects organized, then you might want to pick up the Grabit Robot.

    grabit robot 1

Contrary to its name, this little guy isn’t an actual robot, but he sure looks like one, and that’s good enough in my book. Designed by Leo and Angie Fajardo of Trinkits, this multipurpose holder has two grippy hands which are perfect for holding on to toothbrushes, pens, pencils, and other tall items. Grabit is made of sturdy ABS plastic and measures about 5-inches-tall.

The Grabit Robot is currently raising funds for production over on Kickstarter, and will ship in five colors: bright blue, mango, white, bright red, and lime green. The first 100 contributors can grab a Grabit for $25(USD), while others can get in on the action for $30. The project needs just $7000 by April 17 to go into production, so it should have no problem reaching that goal.
