There’s a fear that touchscreen devices like smartphones and tablets will one day turn kids into lifeless, imagination-less zombies. But technology isn’t all bad. And to bridge the gap between the toys of yesteryear and tomorrow, researchers at the National Taiwan University created a building block toy that can interact with apps on a touchscreen tablet.
It was lunch time on a muggy late September day in 2013 when an explosion shook downtown Orlando, Florida. A warehouse on west Jefferson street was the casualty. Police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks were already on their way by the time Tim Roth, a good Samaritan, was on the scene. As he searched through the rubble and debris for injured humans, what he found was something else entirely.
Play-Doh’s all well and good when it comes to entertaining a toddler. But when you grow up, you need science to deliver something a bit more captivating. And what could be a better way to waste away the hours at work than with a handful of crystal clear putty that looks like liquid glass?

Second only to the pain of your bare foot finding a tiny piece of Lego, is stepping onto an abandoned rawhide bone. It’s a harsh reminder that your dog has no interest in cleaning up after itself, but with this treat-dispensing toy box, that doesn’t have to be the case.
I know that when we were much younger, we thought that we had the world at our feet, and there was virtually nothing that we could not do or achieve. Having grown up into adulthood, however, one’s perspective would have changed – and this would mean being confined to what our university degrees have decreed us to be, slaving away under a system to get the next generation of humanity grow up, before we pack up our things and fade into the background. Why not keep that flicker of a flame alive your mind with the $12.95 Star Trek Mini Light Up Enterprise if all you ever wanted to do was to be a starship captain?
The word “mini” would definitely give the game away, as this is a tiny light-up U.S.S. Enterprise 1701 that sits prettily on your desk. Apart from that, it will also be accompanied by a mini book that will carry information within that helps expand (or confirm) your Enterprise knowledge. Unfortunately, no phaser noises have been thrown into the mix, so you will just have to make do with the tiny bunch of lights in the saucer section (including the bridge) lighting up whenever you flip the switch. A trio of LR41 are what keeps the Star Trek Mini Light Up Enterprise going.

By George! Who would have thought that dragons actually exist in this day and age? Wait a minute here, it is not as though we have concrete proof (biological ones) that dragons existed in the past other than in drawings and folklore. Well, if you think that you have a cool $60,000 lying around, then you might want to be the best house in the neighborhood for kids to visit during Halloween this year with the Flying Fire Breathing Dragon.
Yes sir, this particular remote controlled jet-powered dragon is capable of soaring through the air at up to 70 mph, and it is also able to breathe out fire of its own thanks to propane from within. The dragon comes with LED eyes that can be commanded to glow red while it emits a fiery 3′ blast of flame from a cleverly concealed (and flight-disabled) propane tank and igniter that has been specially built into its toothy maw. A miniature turbine engine constructed and embedded within the beast’s chest would be able to offer enough thrust that exits the rear at 500 mph, and a 10 minute flight results in 1/2 gallon of jet aircraft fuel or kerosene.
Use this to enact your very own Desolation of Smaug scenes right in the comfort of your very own backyard, just be extra careful at where you point the flames!

Thanks to Game of Thrones, dragons are en vogue again. And Hammacher Schlemmer is capitalizing on their renewed popularity by letting you buy one of Rick Hamel’s amazing flying RC dragons
Funko Pop! Star Trek: The Original Series Vinyl Figures: Beam My Wallet up, Scotty!
Posted in: Today's ChiliSo what else can we geeks spend our dough on? How about this fantastic line of vinyl figures from Funko? These Star Trek original series characters look adorable and you can choose from Spock, Kirk, Andorian, Scotty, an Orion Slave Girl or a Klingon.
Spock is giving the Vulcan salute, while Kirk and Scotty come with non-removable phasers. I think the Andorian is the cutest. These figures are extra cute and stand 3 3/4″ tall. They are made from vinyl and are super colorful. They will look great on your desk.
They are only $9.99(USD) each over at ThinkGeek, and can also be found at Entertainment Earth if they’re sold out.
Live long and prosper and collect cool toys.
Having a dog is like living with a perpetual child. They’re always full of energy, trying to find new ways to get in trouble, and leave messes behind where they’ve played. If you’re working with your pooch to improve their behavior, there’s a good chance you’re going to have to go through a few treats to do it.
The Tidy Dog Toy Box will let you teach your pup that putting their toys away after they play is a good thing. This box has a delicate motion sensor that will know when your dog is putting things away, and pops out a few snacks for a job well done. Even if your pup is a bit sneaky, this box was designed to handle some of their tricks. The first prototype was based off of a motion sensor candy dispenser next to a toy box, and has developed into more of a precise machine.
Your pooch won’t be able to trick this into handing out more treats very easily, as it has load cells that can detect even the slightest of vibrations which have to sense absolutely no movement for 30 seconds before it will pass out a treat. That means sitting in the box (as it can even detect breathing) or putting several toys in one after another won’t do anything. If you’re interested in this training method, then this toy box will cost you around $69-99. There is an on/off switch, so you can also train them to learn when play time or cleanup begins and ends.
