This 77-year-old man from the Czech Republic has never been luckier. As he foolishly scurries across a train track, the man mis-times his walk and almost gets killed by a speeding train. The train comes so close to hitting him on the tracks that it actually does. His foot is clipped by the train and you can see one of his shoes fly across the video. Judging by how fast his shoe is catapulted, you can imagine what would have happened to the rest of his body if he was half a step slower.
The World’s Best Ever picked up this great photo series by Michael Wolf. Titled Tokyo Compression, it shows snapshots of passengers captured at Tokyo’s subway stations at rush hour. If you’re claustrophobic, don’t look at these.
In my area, we have lots of train tracks so it’s not uncommon at all to have to sit and wait for a train to cross in front of you. I normally sit there wondering why people go out of their way to tag the boxcars with graffiti. Typically, the art is nothing more than a mess in my eyes.
Conversely, some geeks have captured a boxcar making the rounds that has been painted to look like an old school Nintendo controller. It’s a very good rendition too. Apparently, the person who made the graffiti is TEXER ALB.
I wish more of these ugly boxcars would get a cool coat of paint like this one. If you remember Nintendo controllers from back in the day, you may be wondering why the boxcar has three buttons rather than two like the real controller has. Those buttons are labeled A, L, B for the artist.

Posted in: Today's ChiliContinuing our inadvertent Snøhetta theme today, the Norwegian architecture firm has also proposed this fuselage-like metro station for downtown Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The outer skin of the building—a long tube enclosing a station on the city’s Metro-C line—would be surfaced with ceramic tiles "developed in cooperation with local artists." This joins other large-scale rail projects
The Awesomerer found this impossibly mesmerizing time-lapse video taken in Tokyo’s Yurikamome train. It’s also the weirdest and trippiest time-lapse video I’ve ever seen. It’s called Hyperdrive, and it looks like they are traveling in the Millennium Falcon in Tron universe.
Everyone is talking today about October Jones—the author of Text from Dog—and his commuter photos: He draws alternative heads for fellow train passengers and uses them to replace their real heads in photos so he gets to travel with the Hulk and Kermit.
If you’re in the unenviable position of having to traverse the country by bus or train, you better make sure this map is on your phone.
What would you like in a house? A roof. Central air is nice. Some insulation probably. Maybe a fireplace if you like that. A yard for the kids with a white picket fence for your dreams. What about a freaking rideable scale train that goes completely around the entire property? Yeah, you know you want that. You want it bad.
Commuters know just how dangerous their travels can be if they find themselves in a bus, subway or train that has stopped functioning properly or there’s an absolute emergency, forcing you to leave through a window. Many forms of public transportation have ways where passengers can simply push out a window, but if those aren’t functioning properly, you’re going to have to break a window or two. That’s where the Hammer in Hand concept comes in. (more…)

When my son was really small he loved trains and watched Thomas the Tank Engine a lot. He loved the oddly animated train and his pals. I always found Thomas more than a bit creepy. If you ever thought that Thomas might be plotting to kill and take over the world, then I have the Skyrim mod for you.
It’s called the Really Useful Dragons mod and it turns every dragon on the game into Thomas the Tank Engine. The roars of the dragons are even replaced with Thomas’ shrill whistle. That toot-toot will haunt your dreams. Here, check it out:

I love the first time you see Thomas in the video. He swoops in and lands atop the tower with dust puffing out. I think he was meant to burn cities and capture souls, what about you? You can fast forward to about 2:00 in the video to bypass the wait and see Thomas the Terror for yourself.
Want to try it for yourself? Grab the mod here.
