Ford Sync May Not Necessarily Dump Microsoft For BlackBerry

Ford Sync May Not Necessarily Dump Microsoft For BlackBerry

Earlier in the week it was reported that relationship between Ford and Microsoft has strained and that its possible for the former to shift its Sync in-car infotainment system from the underpinnings provided by Microsoft to BlackBerry’s QNX. Apparently Ford has been getting a lot of complaints about broken touchscreens and buggy software, which is prompting it to switch. That might not entirely be the case though, as Ford managing direction Pin van der Jagt reveals, even if Microsoft is out that don’t necessarily mean its going to be replaced by BlackBerry.

Volvo Human Machine Interface Set For Geneva Debut

Volvo Human Machine Interface Set For Geneva DebutVolvo, the Swedish car manufacturer who has long taken pride in rolling out what many deem to be one of the safest cars in the world, is always at the forefront of innovation and technology to boot. There has also been a fair amount of product placement by Volvo before, including appearing on the silver screen in the Twilight series. We have received word that Volvo’s most recent “human machine interface” will make its debut at next week’s Geneva Motor Show, but it might not be as complicated as what the other competitors would offer. The display itself will be divided into tiles, where one will be able to gain access to navigation, media and vehicle information right on top, while there will be secondary features that include phone and climate controls which are located further down.

Select United 737s Now Offer ViaSat’s Super Fast Wi-Fi

Select United 737s Now Offer ViaSats Super Fast Wi Fi

It goes without saying that the modern traveller needs reliable in-flight Wi-Fi access, and airlines have been putting in a lot of time and resources to provide the facility. Speeds were nowhere near what people would experience on the ground when in-flight Wi-Fi was initially introduced, but the technology has evolved since then. The ViaSat-1 satellite already powers JetBlue’s Fly-Fi service with the promise of 12 Mbps speeds per seat, and apparently United too has switched on this Ka-band backed service on its own select Boeing 737 aircraft.

Venom Is World’s Fastest Production Car

When it comes to us humans, there is always this particular obsession with having the biggest, best, and even fastest device or ride in town. It does seem as though the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport’s long standing record (relatively speaking, of course) when it comes to the highest land speed achieved by a production car has been broken by the Hennessey Venom. Thanks to test pilot Brian Smith who spent Valentine’s Day at the Kennedy Space Center to help increase the amount of affection shown by motorheads to the Hennessey Venom, he managed to push the ride to touch 270.49 m.p.h., thanks to a whopping 1,244 horsepower engine underneath the hood. This broke the highest speed ever reached by a production car by a wee bit, where the previous record stood at the 269.86 mark.

Musician Proposes To Add Music To New York’s Subway’s Turnstiles

Musician Proposes To Add Music To New Yorks Subways TurnstilesWhen we take the train and we insert our tickets or tap our train passes on the turnstiles, we don’t think too much of it. After all it is merely a gateway that separates us from our train. That being said what if there was a way to enhance it? Perhaps add music or interesting tones whenever a ticket has been inserted or a card has been tapped?

Well that’s pretty much what musician James Murphy wants to do to the New York subway system, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal. For those unfamiliar, Murphy is the frontman of the now-defunct electronic-dance-punk band, LCD Soundsystem. He has recently proposed that New York’s subways play a unique melody whenever someone passes through the turnstiles. (more…)

Coda Sells Remaining EV Stock On eBay

Coda Sells Remaining EV Stock On eBayCan you find anything and everything on eBay? Apparently so, even the new all-electric Coda Sedan. Wait a minute here, why would one want to go to eBay to buy a brand new car, when you can easily walk into a dealership and drive away with one? Well, perhaps the fact that Coda Automotive went bankrupt in May last year has something to do with such a predicament, and it has led all of the leftover stock of Coda Cars’ EVs to be sold at “a substantial discount” to those who were interested. I suppose this is a bargain buy if there ever was one from Coda Cars, with the Coda Sedan going for $37,250, down sharply from the original $44,900 sticker price tag. However, Coda Cars even had a Coda EV on eBay that ended at a mere $14,000, picking up 24 bids along the way, making it worth way below the reserve price.

According to Rick Curtis, a Coda dealer previously who is working with Coda Cars now, “We put a Coda on eBay from time to time but most of the time we are selling these from our website or referrals. We have been selling complete cars, gliders and a few rollers and have even been selling components to buyers worldwide.” [eBay Listing]
