Delta International In-Flight Wi-Fi Rollout Could Begin By March

Delta International In Flight Wi Fi Rollout Could Begin By March

With the FAA warming up to use of personal electronic devices during all phases of the flight, it is now up to airlines to offer reliable connectivity options to their passengers. In-flight Wi-Fi is nothing new, but some airlines have been limited to offering the service within the country, Delta is one of those airlines. While the airline was one of the first to latch on to Gogo’s in-flight Wi-Fi service and start offering it on routes in the U.S., it is yet to do so on flights that go across the pond and further. Fliers on Delta should now be relieved as the airline could start offering in-flight Wi-Fi on international routes as soon as next month.

Ford Sync System May Switch From Microsoft To BlackBerry

Ford Sync System May Switch From Microsoft To BlackBerry

BlackBerry may have a major contract coming its way if a new report turns out to be true. Bloomberg hears from people “briefed on the matter,” that the next generation Ford in-car Sync system will replace Microsoft’s Windows technology in favor of BlackBerry’s QNX. Apparently this is being done after persistent customer complaints of sub-standard voice recognition and malfunctioning touchscreens. QNX is already powering similar systems in vehicles by Audi and BMW, Ford has 7 million vehicles on the road with Sync powered by Microsoft, so this could really be a lucrative deal for BlackBerry.

Volkswagen Golf GTE Plug In Hybrid Revealed

Volkswagen Golf GTE Plug In Hybrid RevealedIf you have ever driven Volkswagen’s Golf GTI car, you know that it is a pretty speed machine. Granted it might not necessarily be considered a “super car”, but it is more than able of holding its own. That being said with fast cars, they tend to use up a lot of petrol, which is why if you’re after something like the Golf GTI that’s a little bit more green and easier on the wallet when it comes to refuelling, perhaps you might be interested in the Volkswagen Golf GTE, a plug-in hybrid version of the Golf GTI that the car company has recently released a handful of photos of, with the car expected to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

The Golf GTE will sport an electric motor that has a range of 31 miles and can reach a top speed of 81mph, but will see a boost of up to 135mph thanks to its TSI engine. However when combined with the TSI direct injection engine, it will be able to output 200hp and out 350Nm of torque. According to Volkswagen, they are claiming that the Golf GTE will be able to go from zero to 100km in 7.6 seconds which is slower than last year’s GTI, although its fuel efficiency is set at 188mpg, with CO2 emissions at 35g/km. In terms of charging the battery, regenerative braking will help to recharging the car’s battery, although if you were to plug the vehicle in using a dedicated wall-mounted charging unit, you should be able to recharge the car’s 8.8kWh lithium-ion battery in about 2.5 hours. Pricing is unknown for now, but Volkswagen expect those details to be made available in late August and they expect deliveries of the vehicle to begin by the end of 2014.

I stumbled on this photo while writing last night’s post about the East Side Access Project in New Y

I stumbled on this photo while writing last night’s post about the East Side Access Project in New York and just couldn’t resist: like some underground rail gun or a particle accelerator whirring to life, this is part of the Second Avenue Subway, the so-called "86th Street Cavern," a subterranean wonder that will soon be indistinguishable from mere infrastructure, captured by MTA photographer Rehema Trimiew. Supersonic Jet Will Feature High-Def Screens Instead Of Windows

Supersonic Jet Will Feature High Def Screens Instead Of WindowsThere are some people who love sitting by the windows in the plane. Personally I am more of an aisle kind of guy, but to each their own! Unfortunately plane windows aren’t exactly pristine and tend to be dirty, scratched, not to mention pretty tiny, so there’s really only so much you can see. Well that might soon be changing come 2018 if you were to fly Spike Aerospace’s supersonic private jet. As we speak, the company is in the midst of putting together what they are calling the first supersonic private jet which will come with a feature we’re pretty sure no other aircraft in the world has. Live-streaming screens.

Yup, you heard that right! The company’s plane will feature a live-streaming screen that will replace the windows in planes, as you can see in the concept rendering above. These screens will be able to display high-definition live footage thanks to tiny cameras that line the S-512’s exterior. The screens can also be adjusted to either dim or to switch to another image if constantly looking at clouds begins to get a bit boring. Of course we’re not sure if this will help keep claustrophobic passengers happy, but in terms of being extremely cool, we think Spike Aerospace has hit all the check points. For those wondering, the S-512 will be able to hit a top speed of 1,370mph while carrying up to 18 passengers. Safe to say that flights will not come cheap, but they will look very pretty.

All Work and No Play Makes Self-Driving Cars a Dull Ploy

All Work and No Play Makes Self-Driving Cars a Dull Ploy

Back in the 1950s and 60s, self-driving cars represented the fantastic life of luxury that was supposed to be just around the corner. But here in the 21st century we can’t even pretend that our driverless cars of the future will be filled with board games and light reading. No, our self-driving car of tomorrow will be for one thing: work.

    Tesla Patents Supercharger

Tesla Patents SuperchargerTesla, the company that churns out electric cars, has applied for a slew of patents which would then open up the doors for its Superchargers to be programmable in a way to manage the Tesla Model S electric vehicle in a better manner. Of course, if all goes well, this very same Supercharger, too, would play nice with the Model X and, eventually, the Model E electric vehicles. The patents filed by Tesla did spell out in greater detail that it will feature multiple charging ports which are smart enough to handle varying charging stages. Not only that, the Supercharger station will also be capable of redirecting power according to a first come, first served basis, or to figure out the various stages of each Tesla model’s battery, giving it to whoever has the initial lower battery figre.
