Electric Car Batteries Could Be Used to Power Europe’s Data Centers

Electric Car Batteries Could Be Used to Power Europe’s Data CentersElectric cars do run on batteries, and going along with the overall “green” theme of electric cars, you might be pleased to know that the batteries which run these four wheelers could eventually be used to help manage the voracious appetite for energy in Europe’s data centers. It is said that approximately 2.5% of all European energy is consumed by servers in data centers, and by the time 2019 rolls around, this is tipped to grow to 5%.

Commute-Case Turns Your Briefcase Into A Ride

I am quite sure that Hanna Barbera’s cartoons do bring back plenty of fond memories to many of us, with the futuristic The Jetsons being one of them, long before the likes of Star Trek and Star Wars made their respective appearances. The Jetsons did come with a future which was full of robots as well as pets that were intelligent enough to hold a conversation with you. The world that they lived in back then was entirely unrealistic, but it does seem that over time, technology in the real world might have been playing catch up, and have done so pretty well to boot. The Commute-Case is definitely a move in the right direction.

Why Cities Need to Stop Commissioning Calatrava's Fish Skeletons

Why Cities Need to Stop Commissioning Calatrava's Fish Skeletons

I remember the first time I saw a Santiago Calatrava bridge, a spinal column of calcium-white ribs snaking across a Spanish ravine. "That’s cool," I thought. Then, a few years and a few thousand miles away, I saw another one. And another one. And another one.

They Moved Mountains (And People) To Build L.A.’s Freeways

They Moved Mountains (And People) To Build L.A.’s Freeways

Carmageddon—it was the nightmare scenario L.A.’s transportation authorities warned of when a construction project shut down a critical stretch of freeway for an entire weekend in July 2011. Gridlock. The glow of brake lights. The overwhelming angst of a city denied its full and unimpeded access to its freeways. In the end, the public outreach built around that ominous term worked. Motorists stayed home, and life went on as normal. A few wags even staged a "dinner party" on the deserted freeway.

CarPlay Support For Older Models Unlikely For Ferrari And Volvo

CarPlay Support For Older Models Unlikely For Ferrari And VolvoWhen CarPlay was announced, the general idea was that it would be making its way into newer car models, meaning that for the most part, older car models would not be getting the feature. Ferrari is one the car manufacturers that Apple has partnered up with and for a company that creates such beautiful, fast, and expensive sports cars, it seems that they have no intentions of bringing the technology to their older models.

One would think that the price that they are paying for a Ferrari that the company would at least look after its customers by offering to retrofit older models with CarPlay, right? According to a Ferrari representative, “The new system CarPlay is available only on new range cars and cannot be installed on older ones.” (more…)
