Tron Light Cycle VR Game: Enter the Grid

We can’t enter the digital world like the Flynns did just yet, but thanks to the Oculus Rift, you may be able to experience what it’s like to duke it out in a light cycle. Custom video game machine maker Luis Sobral aka The Arcade Man made an arcade game featuring Tron’s famous vehicles based on the virtual reality headset.

Luis calls his project RiftCycles, a game where players take part in an “immersive virtual reality light cycle battle, fighting in an arena with their bikes until “deresolution”.” To make the experience more authentic, Luis also built two light cycle models out of cardboard and metal for players to ride on.

Watch out for CLU and head to Luis’ website for more on RiftCycles.

Arcade Lights Bring the Arcade Experience Home (Minus the Games)

While many of us fans of classic arcade games would love to have a whole roomful of old arcade cabinets, we don’t always have the space, the money, or the understanding significant other to allow for such dalliances. ArcadeLights has the next best thing.

Instead of filling up tons of space with a complete arcade cabinet, ArcadeLights takes original game marquees and mounts them into wall sconces. They come in a wide variety of designs, and are the perfect addition to your gameroom. Whether you’re looking for Pac-Man, Asteroids, Moon Patrol, or TRON, they’ve got you covered.

Prices range from about $85 up to $225(USD) depending on the rarity and cost of the particular marquee. Head on over to their Etsy shop now to check their current stock. Keep in mind that due to the age of these marquees, they’re not all in perfect condition, but that just adds to the arcade-y charm, IMHO.

And if you miss playing the classics, you can always load up some games on your arcade emulator while you admire your shiny new wall light.

Kawasaki’s concept cycle can morph into a three-wheeler, comes from your cyberpunk dreams

Does Kawasaki’s new electric cycle have two, three wheels or four? Well, it depends. According to the conceptual sketches and a terse explanatory panel, the “J vehicle” concept EV can switch between a lie-down two-wheel Akira / Tron-baiting cycle and a four three-wheel drive mode, with the latter designated as “comfort” mode. The model, revealed at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, is apparently powered by Kawasaki’s biggest onboard battery pack, the Gigacell, although (any other) details aren’t forthcoming. That’s probably because it’s from the future and is tearing the space-time continuum apart.

(Update: According to those aforementioned concept images, only the front wheels separate outward in comfort mode, turning it into a three-wheeled vehicle, not a quad-bike. We apologize for the error.)

How Dodge Makes LED Taillights Glow Like TRON Suits

LED taillights are everywhere, but most are pixellated eyesores. The 2014 Dodge Durango’s LEDs don’t suffer that problem. They give off a uniform electroluminescent glow, like someone wrapped Clu around the back of an SUV. It’s a neat look with some cool light trickery involved.

Zoki64 is tight-lipped about his modding process, but at least he took a video of the console and the controller so we can take a better look at it:

It looks way more futuristic than the next-gen consoles. Check out Zoki64′s deviantART page for additional images of the mod.

TRON Kevin Flynn PCB Portrait: Fatherboard

The intriguing appearance of printed circuit boards or PCBs have inspired works of art. But Taylor John Brooks figured out a way to make art out of PCBs themselves. What better way to show off his craft than with a portrait of the man who got into the digital frontier?

TRON Party Dress is off the Grid

We’ve already seen what a TRON-inspired motorcycle suit looks like. Here’s what the black-on-bright style looks like on a dress, courtesy of cosplayer Victoria Schmidt aka ScruffyRebel and her boyfriend Jin Yo. It even comes with a heart-shaped Identity Disc!

According to Victoria, “The dress is entirely the creation and design of my bf. He had the desire to create a TRON-themed party dress…and then he did! I only contributed a body to wear it, and the idea to do light-up shoes :)” All the images were taken by Flickr member LJinto, except for the top image, which was originally taken by Adam Burakowski aka Dr_Teng.
