Windows Phone gets an official Tumblr app

Tumblr releases app for Windows Phone

You can now scratch one more big name off the list of apps not available on Windows Phone. Tumblr has just released its official app for Microsoft’s mobile platform (the latest version of it, at least), offering all the key features found in its iOS and Android counterparts with a distinct Windows Phone flavor. That includes the ability to swipe left and right to switch between the dashboard and “explore” options, and the option to add the latest images from your dashboard to your lock screen or live tiles. You can also rest assured that animated GIFs will remain animated while you scroll.

Tumblr Mobile Apps Will Now Display Ads

Tumblr Mobile Apps Will Now Display Ads

Tumblr, originally founded in 2007, has really cemented its place online over the past couple of years. Back in December last year Tumblr became one of the top search terms on Google surpassing the keyword “blog,” which has always been one of the highest ranking terms on this search engine. Earlier this year it announced some pretty amazing numbers, the service now hosts over 100 million blogs and more than 44.6 billion posts. It has rapidly grown, considering that back in April 2012 it only had 50 million blogs.

Today Tumblr announced that it is adding advertisements to its mobile apps. Their first sponsored post in Tumblr Radar appeared almost an year ago. Tumblr’s fashion, entertainment and brand partners have created some amazing blogs. Now the service will bring over these posts to their mobile apps, after being “constantly amazed” by how well their partners’ creations fit in their dashboards. The execution of these ads is very simple and doesn’t affect user experience in any substantial way. Every now and then the ads will show up in a user’s mobile dashboard as he or she scrolls through it.

Tumblr gives in to ads in its mobile apps

Tumblr announced today that they’re rolling out advertisements for their iOS and Android apps, as expected. Users of Tumblr’s mobile apps will see up to four ads per day, according to the company, and they’re separated from normal posts with an animated dollar sign icon at the top of each of these types of posts.

Tumblr is partnering with several companies to bring these sponsored posts to mobile, which include ABC, GE, Pepsi, and Warner Bros. The social blogging company says that these ads will get around the same exposure as posts that have been re-blogged by friends, although some of the ads will be animated, which makes us believe that they’ll be more obtrusive than users would like.

These new mobile ads also come almost a full year after Tumblr posted its first sponsored post. Since that time, Tumblr’s partners “have created some truly delightful blogs and racked up tens of millions notes on their posts.” Based upon “how well these creations can fit into our Dashboards,” the company decided to roll out the same thing for mobile today.

This is an expanded effort from Tumblr to create revenue growth for its business, and it’s said that the company will unsurprisingly continue to think up different ways to bring sponsored content to users, including giving users the opportunity to promote posts, but it seems anything is possible for social blogging platform at this point.

Nintendo 3DS Receives Screenshot Sharing Tool In Japan

Nintendo 3DS Receives Screenshot Sharing Tool In Japan

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime had some nice things to say about the company’s 3DS’ game sales over its two years of being available recently, and we’re sure he’ll have nothing but good things to say over a new feature that is currently available only in Japan.

Nintendo of Japan has released a new web tool that can be used within the Nintendo 3DS’ Internet browser to be able to share screenshots onto Twitter and Tumblr. The feature requires the game to first be compatible with the feature, which currently is only available to be used in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Tomodachi Collection: New Life. This isn’t the first time Nintendo has made sharing screenshots possible as they already had a similar feature available for the Wii, although it certainly couldn’t be considered an easy task as it required storing screenshots on an SD card, to then be uploaded through a computer. Nintendo debuts 3DS image sharing tool in Japan, uploads your screengrabs to Twitter, Tumblr

Still waiting for Miiverse to show its hide on Nintendo’s 3DS? Maybe the promise of more conventional social networking will tide you over. Thanks to a new web tool, Japanese 3DS owners can now share screenshots from Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Tomodachi Collection:New Life with their Twitter and Tumblr followers. The setup is pretty simple, giving users access to a basic upload interface through the 3DS’ built-in web browser. Just pick an image, add a caption and watch your retweets roll in. Unfortunately, the tool doesn’t work with just any image — attempting to upload a shot taken with the 3DS camera gave us an error, which told us (via a rough translation) that the picture came from “incompatible software.” The tool is written entirely in Japanese, but folks with a knack for Kanji can check it out at i.nintendo.net. Looking for a compatible game? We hear there’s a bundle for that.

Tumblr app for Android gets revamped

Tumblr has just launched a revamp of its Android app, implementing the beautiful, Holo UI into the app, and improving user experience with a bunch of new features. It’s strange that the Android app is getting revamped before the iOS app, but it’s a nice change of pace. Unfortunately, the revamped app still doesn’t have support for GIFs, which is something users have been wanting for ages.

All of your editing options are placed inside of a small menu button on the bottom right of your screen. Clicking on the button reveals all of your editing actions in a beautiful and smooth animation. Images on Tumblr will “pop” out more, and they will be arranged in a nicer, more organized layout. The Android app for tablets also sees the revamped UI, however it’d still be nice if I could use the app in landscape mode.

Using the Tumblr app is always a pleasant experience, even though most of the time, I prefer to use the desktop version of apps. It’s very smooth and convenient, and everything is easily accessible. The new animations and smoother user interface are major bonuses and it helps get more users to use the Tumblr mobile app more. Social media networks like Tumblr and Facebook are always trying to get more users to use their mobile apps, mostly because there is good money in it for them.

Late last month, Tumblr announced that it finally has over 100 million blogs on its network. It was a milestone that it reached in only 1 year. Tumblr is on a roll and it is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Now that the Android app has seen a complete revamp, it shouldn’t be too long now before iOS users will receive a brand new Tumblr app as well. You can download the Tumblr app update now from the Google Play store.

Tumblr for Android gets overhauled with new interface

Tumblr for Android gets overhauled with new interface

It looks like April is the month for major Android apps to get a visual overhaul. Following Twitter’s refresh last week (and Facebook’s decidedly more ambitious effort), Tumblr has today released its own app update that offers a whole new user interface. As you can see above, that includes some Path-esque expandable controls for creating various types of posts, as well as new post animations and a general appearance that’s more consistent with Android’s “Holo” theme. There’s no indication yet of that new interface heading to iOS, which just got its own Tumblr update last month.

Toilets in Video Games Are All Pretty Gross

Though most video games never involve a player having to drop a deuce, video game worlds always seem to have dirty toilets in even dirtier restrooms. Who uses these toilets and why are they universally dirty! Video Game Toilets rounds up the toilets found in video games—it spans from like the early 80’s until now—in a hilarious Tumblr. Tumblr now has 100 million blogs

Tumblr has reached another huge milestone today. There are over 100 million blogs hosted across its network, all of which have accumulated a total of 44.6 billion posts. Just last April, Tumblr hit its 50 million blogs milestone, and in one year, it managed to double that amount, showing that the social blogging network has no intentions of slowing down anytime soon.

Tumblr reaches 100 million blogs milestone

The Next Web reports that on March 2, 2013, Tumblr had around 93 million blogs on its network, so in only 25 days, it managed to gain 7 million blogs. It’s rapid expansion of blogs isn’t surprising, considering how easy to use the service is. Signing up is painless, and sharing posts, pictures, quotes, and more is simple and straight to the point. It’s also very easy to find blogs and people who share the same interests as you.

Tumblr has also made it very easy to blog while you’re on the go. It dedicates a good amount of its resources to make blogging on your mobile device easier. It revamped its iOS app in order to make it more faster and smoother, as well as bring to it more features to make it more efficient. It also boasts a nice Android app, and has even developed an Android tablet app so that your tablet’s screen is fully utilized.

Tumblr is showing no signs of slowing down. It plans on implementing mobile ads in order to fully monetize its service. The mobile ads will not be intrusive, like the pop-up ads you see sometimes on web pages. Instead, they will be shown as regular posts alongside Tumblr’s news feed. Back in November, Tumblr stated that over 170 million users visited the site each month. It’ll be interesting to see what that figure is right now.
