Turtle Beach Announces Xbox One Headset Upgrade Program

Turtle Beach Announces Xbox One Headset Upgrade Program

If there’s one drawback to purchasing the new Xbox One console, it would be how older headsets might not be compatible with the device. Microsoft has announced that they are working on an adapter that will help make it compatible, and the good news is that headphone manufacturer, Turtle Beach, has announced something similar as well for their customers. The company revealed that they will be giving out free Xbox One compatibility kits for certain models of Turtle Beach headsets as long as they were purchased between the 22nd of November (when the console was released) until the 30th of January 2014.

These models include the Turtle Beach Ear Force XP SEVEN, X42, XP400, or XP510, and Turtle Beach expects the compatibility kits to start shipping for free between the 1st of March 2014 to the 30th of June 2014. This is still a bit of a wait, but if you love the headphones and would rather not use something else, we guess you’ll just have to wait until then. According to Turtle Beach, “The compatibility kit includes a Microsoft proprietary audio control unit that connects to the Xbox One controller via the controller’s expansion port. The unit makes volume, game-chat audio mix, and mute controls easy to access while playing. The control unit also passes audio through to the headset. The kit also includes a cable that connects the headset to the control unit for chat audio.” More info can be found on Turtle Beach’s website.

Turtle Beach announces iSeries media headsets

turtle-beach-i30When it comes to audio brands, there is one particular name that stands out above the rest for some people, and Turtle Beach would be one of them. The name Turtle Beach has long been synonymous with high quality audio devices, and this time around the company has announced their spanking new iSeries range of high end media headsets. The iSeries will arrive in the form of the wireless surround sound i60 and the wireless amplified stereo i30, where these would no doubt be the first headsets that have been specially constructed for use with both Mac and iOS products. The iSeries headsets themselves will arrive with a bunch of innovations that Turtle Beach originally introduced to gaming headsets but so happen to be new for mobile users. Hopefully, with a little bit of something for everyone, folks will be satisfied.

Some of the new features introduced to gaming headsets that mobile users would fall in love with include improved chat and voice call quality as well as an unmatched level of control over audio. Regardless of whether you settle for the i60 or the i30, they will both share the same unique design which blends style, quality, comfort and durability, while boasting premium finishes, where among them include a leather headband and leather-covered memory foam, noise-isolating ear cups.

The two headsets will also be accompanied by a built-in remote which plays nice with the iPhone, iPad and the Mac. They will come with innovative dual boom-less microphones which will hopefully, deliver clear, high-quality audio during chat, voice calling and use with Siri.

Of course, the i60 will be the flagship model, where it features a control unit for use with Mac desktops and laptops that deliver fingertip audio and preset control. Turtle Beach does have some pretty high hopes that the i60 will also be the first wireless headset for the Mac platform that boasts of 7.1 DTS surround sound with adjustable speaker angles and EQ presets, a fully programmable digital signal processor (DSP), dual-band Wi-Fi for uncompressed, interference free wireless audio and dual-pairing Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity.

Those who are interested can pick up the i60 and the i30 for $399.99 and $299.99, respectively.

Turtle Beach’s New Seven Series Headphones Are A Gamer’s Audio Dream

Screen Shot 2013-02-18 at 11.44.08 AM

If you’re a hard-core gamer, the name Turtle Beach most certainly means something to you. We met with the tournament-grade headset maker to discuss their new Seven series of headsets, originally debuted at CES.

There are three different models in the line, the XP Seven (meant for all consoles, PC, and mobile), the Z Seven (meant for PC and mobile) and the M Seven (mobile only). Both the XP Seven and the Z Seven come with a special Audio Control Unit (or ACU) that lets you adjust even the most minute details of the audio.

For example, you can set the speakers to be loudest toward the rear, letting you catch on to anyone who might be sneaking up behind you. You can also adjust the headset so that footsteps and gunshots can be louder, while the actual game sounds are much lower. There are eight different pre-set configurations you can build on your own, making it quick and easy to switch from one game to the next and still enjoy the best possible audio for each.

Users also have the ability to mix in music from their phone, answer calls, and chat with other players using the XP Seven. You can even remove the microphone and just use these bad boys as your main headphones. Plus, the plates on the ear cups are removable, so you can buy various colors to customize your headset.

At $279, the XP Seven is on the expensive side, but with the extra advantages they bring it’s well worth it if you game every day.

The Z Seven model has all the same functionality, but is meant for PC and mobile only, while the M Seven doesn’t come with an ACU but does bring console-quality sound to mobile gaming.

All three models are available now, so click here if you’re interested in learning more.

I Have to Write About These Headphones Because the Company Gave Me a Massage

Tech writing is a filthy trade, with crap gussied up as treasure, marketing sleaze, lies, corporate dinner dates, favoritism, and plenty of capitalist lucre. CES is the prom of it all, so we figured, why not just make an open trade: rub me and I’ll write about you. More »

Turtle Beach Launches Multiple Cross-Platform Gaming Headsets

xp510B Turtle Beach Launches Multiple Cross Platform Gaming Headsets

[CES 2013] Gaming after-hours is an absolute must if you’re an adult with a 9-5 job, a wife and maybe children as the only downtime you probably have is when everyone is asleep. The last thing you want to do is wake everyone up from their slumber with, what you consider to be, your sweet sounds of gaming bliss. Turtle Beach is one of the leaders in the gaming-headset market, and at this year’s CES, they announced a number of cross-platform headsets that you’re going to want to start saving now for.

The first sets of gaming headsets they’re announcing are the next generation of their wireless headset line. The Ear Force XP510 for Xbox 360 and Ear Force XP51 for PS3 include Turtle Beach’s proprietary digital signal processor, Dolby Digital surround sound, Dual Band Wi-Fi, a rechargeable lithium polymer battery and are Bluetooth compatible. With a full charge, both headsets have a 15 hour lifespan, which is a nice amount of time just to get into Skyrim. Both the XP510 and PX51 will be available in Q1 2013 for $289.99 and $269.99, respectively.

Turtle Beach has new headsets for the Nintendo Wii U

When it comes to gaming audio, you know for sure that the name Turtle Beach has been right there from the early days when sound cards were considered to be a luxury on your computer, and many folks (such as yours truly) who lacked the kind of monetary resources would just have to make do with the standard PC speaker which frankly, had a far less vocal range compared to even R2-D2. Well, Turtle Beach does seem to be still around these days, and no longer are they producing sound cards for computers, but rather, still being involved in the audio arena. The Nintendo Wii U, a next generation console from Nintendo, has yet to be introduced, but Turtle Beach has already announced their officially licensed headsets, the Ear Force NLa and Ear Force N11.

The two pairs of headsets were specially created in collaboration with Nintendo of Japan, where they intend to deliver to Wii U gamers a pair of solid entry level headsets without breaking the bank. Steve Singer, Vice President of Licensing, Nintendo of America Inc., said, “We are very excited to be working with Turtle Beach to launch the N11 and NLa for the new Wii U. We look forward to fans having a high quality audio experience with our newest console.”

Unlike your Nokia handsets, however, these will not come in a bunch of merry colors. Instead, they will be available in both black and white shades only, presumably to go along with what the Wii U will be launched in.

The Ear Force NLa is the ideal headset for Nintendo gamers who want high-fidelity audio and superior comfort, where it merges high-fidelity stereo game audio and crystal-clear communication in a sleek, lightweight and durable design. Other features include in-line volume control and noise-isolating ear cushions, while those who tend to be on-the-go will find that the NLa’s 4-pole connector can be easily disconnected from the Wii U GamePad and hook up to portable devices such as the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS in a jiffy.

The Ear Force NLa and Ear Force N11 will retail for $34.95 and $49.95, respectively, as they arrive in the market later in the fourth quarter of this year.

Turtle Beach reveals Ear Force NLa and Ear Force N11 Wii U-certified gaming headsets

If you’re looking for a pair of gaming headphones to complete your Nintendo Wii U experience, you might be interested to learn that popular audio manufacturer, Turtle Beach, has announced that they will be producing some gaming headsets for the Wii U console. These are the Ear Force NLa and the Ear Force N11 (pictured above), both of which will plug into the Wii U’s GamePad, and both of which will be available in Q4 of this year and will be priced at $35 and $50 respectively.

Starting with the Ear Force NLa, this headset will come with an in-line volume control, a microphone and will be available in either black or white. The Ear Force N11 will feature “acoustically angled” 50mm speakers which apparently will help create “extended bass”. This might be why it is priced at a slightly more expensive $50. We doubt that these will satisfy many audiophiles out there but if you’re just looking for a gaming headset for your Wii U, perhaps Turtle Beach’s reputation and its relatively affordable price tag should make these headsets an attractive option.

Nintendo may be MIA at TGS this year (as usual), but that hasn’t stopped Turtle Beach — it brought a pair of Wii U headsets to the show anyway. We dropped by the outfit’s booth to take a peek, finding seemingly empty boxes in lieu of product. Turns out they weren’t so empty — the Ear Force N11 and NLa headsets are so lightweight, we didn’t even notice they were there. After a brief unboxing, this editor wrapped each set around his head, finding the headband tension of both the over-ear N11 and the on-ear NLa to be just as light as the accessories themselves, squeezing my skull with only the gentlest of pressure. The sets’ earmuffs seemed built for comfort as well, soft, and not the least bit irritating. Staff on hand told us that the internals weren’t quite final, but sound quality aside, we could easily see settling in with either of these products for a long, comfortable gaming session. Both sets arrive later this year — $35 for the white, on-ear Ear Force NLa cans, and $50 for its black over-ear cousin. See our impressions for yourself in the video after the break.
