The Walking Dead Companion Series Coming in 2015 – YES!

One of my all-time favorite TV shows is The Walking Dead on AMC. I know I’m not alone in really digging the show because it’s one of the most popular shows on TV. If you’re a fan, you’ll be thrilled to hear that AMC is currently getting a companion series ready for the air for 2015.

The Walking Dead companion series will be produced by the executive producers of the original series, Robert Kirkman and Gale Ann Hurd. AMC says that the shows currently very early in development but calls the show a “no-brainer.” AMCs Charlie Collier, president and general manager said that the new series will have an entirely new story.

What exactly will take place in the new show remains to be seen, but we do know it’s going to be set in the same post-apocalyptic world and follow a new group of survivors as they combat the zombie horde. Season four of The Walking Dead debuts October 13.

Roku 2700X set-top box surfaces at the FCC with basic specs

Mystery Roku 2700X settop box hits the FCC

The Roku 3 might not be the only Roku set-top box arriving this year: an unannounced 2700X has just passed through the FCC for approval. The filing shows a streaming hub that’s curvy like the Roku 3, but is limited to single-band, 2.4GHz 802.11n WiFi. Combine this spec with the low model number (the Roku 3 is the 4200X) and it’s not hard to figure out what we’re looking at — this is an entry-level device based on Roku’s newer design language. When the company’s confidentiality request to the FCC will expire in less than 90 days, we’d expect the 2700X to launch relatively soon. Check out a second image of the hardware after the break.

YouTube testing Chromecast support for embedded videos

Chromecast achieves Zen

Anyone wanting to stream YouTube videos through a Chromecast currently has to visit YouTube’s website or run one of its mobile apps. Viewers may soon have more options, though, as Google has confirmed to GigaOM that it’s publicly testing Chromecast support for embedded YouTube clips on third-party web pages. Right now, access is random at best — the “send to” button only appears some of the time, and might not be available to everyone. The company says it’s monitoring feedback from these experiments, however, and it could offer embedded video support to more Chromecast owners if all goes well.

Our Favorite TV Shows Never Really Leave Us

Everyone has favorite shows. Look at Breaking Bad. Fans are everywhere right now. And like Breaking Bad all shows must meet a noble or ignominious end. But that doesn’t mean we stop loving them. Or hating them so much that we are oddly fascinated and can’t stop watching. That’s why Offerpop took a look at which shows have the most likes on Facebook and how these fans break down.

Samsung TVs Running On Tizen Could Arrive In 2014

Samsung TVs Running On Tizen Could Arrive In 2014Boo-Keun Yoon, the co-CEO of Samsung who also happens to hold the portfolio of being the head of the consumer electronics business, apparently mentioned to a German publication that the South Korean conglomerate has plans to churn out TVs in the future which will be powered by the open source Tizen mobile operating system. If that were to pan out, it would certainly be something worth checking out, especially when you consider that a Samsung Galaxy S4 with Tizen 3.0 as the operating system of choice has already been spotted in the wild.

Apparently, Samsung still has plans for Tizen despite being one of the major device manufacturers that use Google’s Android as the main operating system of choice. The presence of Tizen allegedly provides Samsung with more control over its own future, a safety net of sorts, if you will, so that it need not use Google as its crutch should things turn sour sometime down the road. Right now with Samsung’s TVs, the company already churns out their own software, but as they intend to integrate additional functionality into TVs and bring various devices together, a common operating system would make much more sense and an easier life to boot.

I Need to Own This Knight Rider Lego Set

It’s a tale as old as time itself. The love between a man and his artificially-intelligent car. One is KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand), a badass, snarky, rear-wheel drive, modified Pontiac Trans Am; the other’s a heavily chest-haired, 80s sex bomb. Together, they’re Lego Knight Rider.

TiVo Network PVR puts Roamio recording technology in the cloud

TiVo Network PVR puts Roamio interface in the cloud for TV providers

However good TiVo’s new Roamio DVRs may be, not everyone can justify purchasing them — especially not TV providers that would have to buy in bulk. TiVo could make that experience more accessible with its just-unveiled Network PVR. The service (not yet pictured) puts the Roamio interface in the cloud, letting operators offer similar recording and streaming features though cheaper set-top boxes and mobile devices. Network PVR should also let providers offer perks that aren’t possible with locally-stored shows, such as sharing a recording with friends who missed the big season finale. There’s no estimated launch time frame for Network PVR, although that’s more likely to be dictated by the providers; don’t be surprised if it takes a while for the technology to reach viewers.

DNP Hulu offers a handful of fall premieres online before they air

It’s pumpkin spice latte season, and that can only mean one thing: fall TV premieres are right around the corner. So, if you’ve been suffering from severe withdrawal from The Mindy Project (now with 100% more James Franco) or been intrigued by the overripe nostalgia of The Goldbergs, you’re in luck.
